Katie from Upstate
Verona, NYGreat Location, Nice Layout, But...
Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We were a group of friends in our late 20's and early 30's that stayed the last week in august. While we enjoyed our stay, there were a few setbacks regarding our visit.
I will start with the pros. The location is great. Right on the beach, and not too far from anything. There is a large deck that was utilized daily. The deck has many chairs and a table. The central air blows cold, which is not a complaint. Although, one of the upstairs bedrooms got extremely cold. There is an outdoor, private shower to wash sand off you, but the hose is much more effective. The layout of the house was nice, each room providing privacy and your own bathroom. The kitchen was stocked with pans and utensils that were acceptable.
Now, I will get into the cons of this rental. The refridgerator at it's coldest setting was not effective in keeping our groceries cold. We had to rotate things into the freezer at points. The washer and dryer did not work, and was supposed to be fixed the second or third day we were there. It was not fixed. A laundry service was offered and utilized 5 days into our trip. Part of the reason we chose this rental was because it had a washer and dryer. The laundry service was nice, but this was overall disappointing. Part of the deck was collapsing, and a maintenance person came and taped off a portion of the deck that we couldn't use. It was not fixed during our trip. There is a grill, but one of the burners is broken and constantly set on low. No way to adjust. There is no ignitor on the grill which made lighting it a challenge with the ocean breeze. The ceiling leaks above the kitchen table where the chandelier is when it rains. We were rained on during some of our meals. One of the downstairs bathrooms did not have hot water. There was white dog hair covering the rug in the living room. There also seemed to be a slight cockroach problem on our porch after dark. Someone came and sprayed twice.
Average stay overall.Response from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 09/15/2012

Left on 08/24/2012 for a stay in August 2012
It was our third year at Little annie for our family and we felt as if we had come back home! There were new decorations but the beautiful oceanview did not change! The place was clean with sheets on the bed and towels in our baths. It was a beautiful week and even though we had a few cloudy (little rainy)weather we still had a wonderful time at the beach.
The only concerned we experienced was when the mirror above the dresser in the master suit fell all of a sudden on the television. Instead of being placed on the back of the dresser this one had been attached to a few screws on the wall (a definite no-no). It really scared my granddaughter but as soon as we calmed her down we called Emerald Isle Realty they sent someone to get the TV and get the mirror set back. We didn't get a replacement televison for the rest of our stay but as usual we made the best of it.
If there were one thing I'd change at Little annie would to add a covered portion of the deck with an awning or a little portico or porch. For those in our family who did not want to go to the beach or sunbathe, this would have been an excellent solution to sit and watch the ocean waves!
We were sad to leave at the end of the week and look forward to our vacation next summer at little annieResponse from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 08/28/2012

Great vacation with the family. This is a great house with each bedroom having a private bath. Only thing we did not like was the squeaky beds. Everytime you moved, you woke up your spouse.
The upstairs air conditioning broke, but was fixed immediately by very professional people.Response from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 02/03/2012

Lanexa, VirginiaNice house, crazy deck!
Left on 08/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We stayed at this house(Little annie) a few years back, before its remodel. The changes are very nice and the house is greatly improved! A bath with each bedroom is a real plus and we love the wall of windows facing the beach. Reservation and check-in were smooth as always. The only drawback was the deck, or more specifically, the deck furniture. There were 40(!?!) chairs and 2 tables scattered everywhere.
Few of the chairs matched and many were the sort that needed cushions, but no cushions could be found. It looked more like a messy storage area than anywhere you would want to spend time. Also, the previous tenants had left treats for the birds on the outdoor tables. You can imagine the mess. Even after we cleaned them, the birds returned (and pooped) for 2 or 3 days. The tables were unusable because of this. We love Emerald Isle and will be back next year. I'd even rent this house again if I could be sure something was done about the deck. -

we had a great time at Little annie this year. the accomodations were great and we were treated to excellent weather. I especially enjoyed the new private outdoor shower (with hot water no less) to rinse of the sand before we came in.
The only down sides to our week were fire ants outside on the deck and that there isn't some covering over the deck we we can just sit in the day and have a shade. The paint was also peeling off the chairs (not good with little children around). But overall we had a wonderful reatful experience! -

everything about this beach is beautiful. the house was more than i expected. it's even nicer than the pictures show. the kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. my only complaint is there was not enough wash cloths. they only had one per person so we had to wash a load everyday.it was nice to have a washer and dryer. i really loved the house!!!

Greenville, NCFamily Time at Little annie
Left on 08/18/2010 for a stay in August 2010
Each bedroom had its own private bath, wireless connection and TV with DVD player. The ease and convenience to the ocean was another factor that pleased us as my husband has trouble walking and keeping his balance on sand but as this was beside the public access walkway getting to the beach was a breeze for him! There is a hall stacked washer and dryer that were convenient but could accomodate small loads could be washed and dried at one time.
The master and a third bedroom were upstairs. The master had a balcony (awesome view), a sitting area and a large bath. We liked that the furnishings were nice but not fancy as we had small children running about. If I could change any one factor it would be to attach the glasstop dining room and coffee tables as they had a tendency to slip and move on the bases.
On our second night at Little annie we realized that the aC unit on the bottom floor had quit. We called the emergency number that night had fans and a cooling unit promptly delivered. It was diagnosed on Monday that the compressor was out and that the order had already been placed to replace it on Tuesday. In the meantime, we were given 2 additional aC window units that we placed kept the kitchen and bedroom that kept us cooled until the compressor was replaced. At all times hte Emerald Isle Realty personnel were concerned, courteous, problem-solving oriented and we appreciated their quick response to insure that we had a worry free week. They even called as the week progressed to make sure we were enjoyiing our beack week. Despite the small time of inconvenience (Sunday night) we still had a wonderful summer together, rested and restored full of memories of the beach at Little annie!

Left on 07/31/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We have been vacationing in Emerald Isle for over 40 years. This house was one of the few we have ever encountered that really needed a lot of structural repairs. The stairs going from the parking area to the porch were pulling away from the house. The railing was very loose to say the least. The decking was coing up from the frame causing many areas of tripping hazards. The railing on the beach side of the house was pulling apart at the corners which made the entire deack seem unsafe. The stairs from the deck to the beach are leaning which made going to and from the beach a safety concern for th eolder adults in our group. There is a real need for deck furniture to be replaced due to most of it is unusable.
The house itself was clean. But the pots and pans were limited and the ones there looked like they were 30 years old and not very clean. We went and bought coffee cups and a bread pan to use due to the condition of these items. We also had a problem with ants. The exterminator was supposed to be there the week we were but never showed up. I guess that expalins the ants.
With all that being said the view from the deck was wonderful and we all enjoyed the space on the deck. The beach in front of the house was not great for swimming with the kids due to the sand bar and current running parallel to it. we saw two different occasions when rip currents were present due to a break in the sand bar. Our kids are older but they still went up th ebeach to go swimming due to the current in from of the house.

Little Annie is a great house, but the terrible rain storm made its way into the living room and kitchen by way of leaky windows. While it was one of the worst storms the island had seen in quite some time, the amount of water that came in through the windows was substantial. Luckily we were able to keep changing out the bath towels that were sopping up the water and washing them right at the house.
Aside from the damp indoor conditions, Little Annie has a great deck with a beautiful view. It was by far the biggest and best deck on the beach houses we saw. It also has lots of deck furniture already on it. It is right next to a public access to the beach, so folks felt free to leave their beach gear under our porch. Fine for us, maybe not great for others who are more private. Also, the "enclosed, outdoor shower" was full of beach toys and surf boards that made it inacessible without a mountain being moved.Response from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 05/25/2010

Thank you so much for your great description of this home!
And THANK YOU for taking into consideration the owners property by protecting it from the water leak. First by putting a towel down but further more by swapping it out for dry ones when they got soaked. Emerald Isle Realty and our homeowners greatly appreciate guests who treat our vacation homes as if it was their own home!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The window has been fixed so no more leaks! And you're right, it was a bad storm.
That was very nice of you to let them store their beach items under your porch.
We will get that enclosed outdoor shower cleaned out. I'm so sorry that wasn't useable. Next time just call us and we'll come down and take care of any situation like that for you!

We truly enjoyed our stay. The interior of the house was newly remodeled and
very clean. The linen service was great. The kitchen was equipped with the
appropriate items. (Once we arrived at the house, we only left for groceries . . .
and the men did all the cooking!) The deck area/deck furniture was in need of
some repair, but it was enjoyable. The parking area was small, which could
present a problem since this is a 4-bedroom house. We hope to vacation
there again next year. -

The Emerald Isle Realty folks are true professionals with a smooth and quick check in/out. They answered all our calls and questions quickly and courteously. I do think they need to clarify their contract for internet reservations as I was confused by when I needed to send my final payment and when to decline the insurance since I already made the first installment on line. Thus I was stuck with insurance that I didn't want. We did negotiate an early check though as a compromise for this confusion. I hate contract where you have to opt out of costs rather than opt in.
The on-line picture of Little Annie needs updating since it has been redone to include a full second story that gives full 2-story windows in the dining and living areas, providing a bright open space. The 4 br and attached baths are great for family privacy and convenience. Our crew of 9 family memebers never fealt crowded inside. The full, huge deck was great for relaxing and watching the waves. The beach was literally only steps away from the deck and was quiet and beautiful and so convenient to the house.
Our only issues were cosmetic and maintenance related. The stove is really beaten up and needs to be replaced. The kitchen sink leaked and needs repair. There were no trash baskets in 3 of the bathrooms. It would be nice to have a broom and dust pan and functioning sweaper to clean up during the week. The hose outside leaked like a sieve. Some of the deck furniture was broken or missing cushions.
If those were addressed, the place would be absolutely perfect. As was, it was great though.Response from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 07/04/2009

After visiting this island for over a dozen years, Little Annie has become our favorite vacation home!
The four bedrooms with on-suite bathrooms and a guest half bath provided ample room for our 3 generation family vacation. After an evening stroll along the beach the massive deck was the gathering place for music, singing, laughter and stargazing.
The open kitchen, dining area and living room was large enough to cook our large feasts of local seafood for our family of six and six more guests for dinner. If you want a break from cooking, there are plenty of restaurants to fit any taste and budget. After a 14 hr. drive to Emerald Isle we order pizza delivery the first evening.
Having wireless capabilities and 5 TV's gave us connection to the world if we so chose.
We would highly recommend Little Annie as an excellent choice and a tremendous value. Oceanfront, it is just steps away from the most beautiful beach with crystal clear water.

This house was in a great location and had great beach access, which was very important to us. Also, the deck was fantastic and we used it all the time, morning & night. The house was kind of run-down and does need some updating. Although the BR's were remodled and very nice. Our big issue was with the steps down from the bedrooms. Three of us fell on the landing because of bad lighting or, we think, the carpet blended it with the last step. This was a problem for us.

I'm am very sorry that your vacation was not comfortable. We all picture that perfect beach vacation and when one of our guests doesn't experience that, we do take it very seriously. I was happy to see that our team responded immediately to the problem with the loose bed frame that you called us about, and sincerely wish we could have done the same for the other issues. So often our guests just want to enjoy the stay, and don't call us about things we might have fixed very easily.
