We spent the month of October in Novelty Cottage. The house was exactly as described on the web site. It is a great place for a family to congregate. Our family appreciated the combination of private space and private bathrooms combined with large communal space for everyone to gather for eating and socializing. The large porch off the living room is so nice for enjoying the view and the sunny weather. The view of the ocean is great and easy access to the beach right out the back door was very convenient. We particularly enjoyed long walks along the beach almost every day. The location is quiet during October with few people and little traffic. It is easy to get from this house to local attractions, restaurants, shops, hiking trails, etc.

Novelty is a beautiful well thought out home. The living area is wide open with plenty of room for a large group.
It is a piano key lot; so, you do get back views of other houses.
Still, there is a nice view of the ocean from a wide porch with rockers. Bedrooms are all of a good size. The
decks oceanside need a good coat of paint. Otherwise the

We loved the Novelty Cottage on Emerald Isle!!! We had a wonderful time during our family vacation!!! We loved the house on the beach and we hope to return again next year!!! The house was decorated so adorable!! It really added to the experience of being on the beach. We (the gals on the trip) loved all the seaside pictures and decorations that were in every room. The home had a great veiw of the ocean and you were on the beach in just seconds. The walk way was so nice going and coming from the beach. We loved having all the rocking chairs on the long porch. The whole family was able to sit outside visiting watching the sun come up and the sun go down in the evening, something we will always cherish!! We had three generations of our family at the house. The house was so big that everyone had their own rooms. You could always find a quiet place if you wanted. It was fun for the old and the very young!! We enjoyed the bonus room with the large TV and surround sound, we watched movies and ate popcorn many nights. The icemaker and the hot tub were a great extra as well! They had all the gadgets and cooking items that you would need in the kitchen. We also walked down to the community pool to swim, it was close. We want to thank the family that allowed us to stay in their home!! We had a wonderful time and made many memories! Thank you again for making our family vacation extra special!!
Ps The only thing that was a mix up was that the linen service did not come, so we had to sleep with our beach towels the first night, we laughed about it!!! The service when we called the next morning arrived within the same hour to drop off the bedsheets and towels! Thanks for being so speedy! The gals were really nice that came! We also had a wonderful experience with the oxygen company, that deliverd for my Dad. The driver was so nice and delivered to the house. Thanks again,we will rent off Emerald Isle realty again! This was our 5th year at Emerald Isle but our first in Novelty. Our family is growing and we needed the extra room. We loved the house, it fit our family perfectly. It was beautifully decorated inside and very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed except for being short on forks and no pot holders. The beds were the most comfortable we have had in any rental. The rooms were very spacious with large closets. The bathrooms were updated and clean, however there were not enough hooks for towels. We loved the downstairs "kid space". Also the 3rd floor TV/computer room was great so our large group could split up a little. The house has a bunch of books and games which we never used b/c of the beautiful weather. House is in a good location, nice neighborhood. We really didn't care for the "peg lot". Didn't feel like you were oceanfront at all. When you are on the back porch, you have a great view of the houses and driveways and their pools on either side and the ocean/beach is pretty far to really feel like you are staying in /paying for an oceanfront house. Owners...please add bathroom hooks, especially downstairs. With 6 kids sharing that bathroom, we really struggled to keep up with all those white towels. Maybe a set of 6-8 hooks on the wall with numbers, letters or colors to identify them so the kids can keep them straight for the week? Unless you are picky about the view/peg lot, this house is perfect!!

Novelty is a beautiful home, decorated and furnished well. The kitchen was especially well furnished. The location was ideal, convenient to shopping, located on a culdesac which afforded more privacy and less thru traffic and was just a short walk from the community pool. The house was clean and affordable during the time we were there. We would stay there again. We had to call for service on the aC unit. Someone promptly returned our call and came out to correct the problem. The only issue we faced during the week was a grumpy neighbor to our right (9909 Shipwreck) but we didn't let her ruin our vacation. Emerald Isle Realty personnel were very friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back!

it was nice and clean. We liked the house. even though it was on a peg lot you could still see the ocean and the walk was not too long. The hot tub was very nice. I enjoyed sitting on the back porch rocking in the chairs. The ocean was warm enough my teenager and younger children did not miss not having a pool too much

We stayed here in august 2010 for 2 weeks with extended family. There were 10 of us and plenty of room in this house.
The four kids loved the bunk beds with foosball table in the bedroom (even though the foosball was missing). The kitchen was large, but could have used some more items in it, such as measuring items, etc. The stand alone icemaker was great. The location on the beach and in Spinnaker's Reach subdivision was ideal. We were worried about our peg lot view, but it was actually very nice. We had a great view of the beach! We would definitely stay here again! -

We love this house, and have stayed here four years running. The living space fits our family perfectly, and we especially enjoy the porch. We were very disappointed this year to find out that the golf cart is not included. We really felt like that should've been made clear, since it's a decrease in amenities in spite of an increased price. Also, the exterior really needs a paint job - it's the first thing we noticed when we drove up. Lastly, there was a bit of a problem with ants. Housekeeping was supposed to have come, but they never showed up.

We rented Novelty for us & our out of state family so our son (the groom) could stay at our house (Rhett St.) with his groomsmen and their families. The house was priced good for that week and everyone enjoyed their stay. We ranged in age from 87 to 2 years old. The air went out on 3rd floor one day but got fixed that day after several calls to EI & A/C company. The sliding door in top east bedroom was off track - would not open/close. But house & kitchen were furnished very nicely. I had to bring over an extra coffeepot, a toaster oven, and a crock pot from our house but other than that everything was there that we needed. The weather wasn't the greatest but this house made up for it. We really enjoyed the fact that it was on a cul-de-sac. The kids rode their bikes a lot! Great views of the ocean from the house! We had plenty of room for our group. The house had lots of games, puzzles and activities for all ages.

The vacation and the house were both great. We enjoyed the little extras this house had: the kayaks(sp) and rafts; The ping pong table, foos ball table, etc. We had trouble finding the check-in office. A little out of the way, but okay. Golf cart to ride would have been nice.

Novelty is a bright and family friendly home. The rooms are large and nicely furnished.We love the media room and the fact that "all" the bedrooms have TV's. The home is in an exclusive private development. We have been coming to Emerald for over 15 years and we love it more each time we visit. Thank you for sharing this beautiful house and island!

We really enjoyed this house and liked the lay-out of the main floor
(kitchen, living room, bathrooms) very much because it
accommodated our daytime needs very well.
But our kids were young (6 and under) and there were some
disappointments: the downstairs kids' room (awesome bunk beds,
foosball table) was too far away from the upstairs (3rd floor) master
bedrooms so our kids were nervous to be down there alone. I didn't
like having that much distance between us and the kids in such a
big house and I wasn't willing to sleep in the 2Q bedroom in the
basement (with shared bath) to accommodate that.
The crib provided was incredibly shabby and we had some
misgivings about whether it was safe or not. We're glad we had it
but would have enjoyed it more if it were not located in the master
bedroom (our son was young, but not an infant). Only two 3rd floor
masters, occupied by grown-ups.
Overall I think many beach house kitchens are not cleaned well
enough and in this house I recall that the stove and oven were
outdated which made cooking more complicated than it should be.
All things considered this would be our choice again when our
children are much older because of its location on the Isle. I loved
our spot on the beach (which was very deep and very quiet
