Engelberg www.engelberg.ch www.titlis.ch www.brunni.ch really is one of the most beautiful Mountain Resorts in the world … and you’ll discover that Alphaven enjoys the most beautiful setting in Engelberg. I have attached some related newspaper articles which I hope are of interest.
A car is useful but not essential … Engelberg is the closest Mountain Resort to Zurich & Basel Airports and is the perfect central base for seeing the rest of Switzerland ... it takes just over 1 hour by Car and just over 2 hours by Train … a Taxi from the railway station in Engelberg to Alphaven takes 5 minutes. Directions about getting to Alphaven are on our website www.alphaven.ch under "Contact Us" … there is a map here which shows you where the house is in relation to the town, the Railway Station and the 2 main Mountain Lift Stations … “Titlis” & “Brunni”
It takes well under 15 minutes on the footpath from Alphaven into the centre of town which has plenty of excellent Restaurants and Shops including 2 Supermarkets. There is a regular FREE Bus service all year round that goes from the Titlis Lift Station via the centre of town up to the end of the valley at Furenalp where it connects with another cable car station.
There is 360kms of superb hiking around Engelberg alone ... information about Lift Passes/Pricing and “Mountain Adventure” activities can be found on the website www.titlis.ch under “Prices & Online Tickets” then “Summer Prices” … and www.brunni.ch under “Summer” and “Prices” … there is no need to book in advance, everything can be easily arranged on your arrival.

The spacious and comfortable apartment C is very tastfully designed. We felt immediately at home. The furniture is equally well chosen. The kitchen is adequate and well-supplied. The beds are good. There is plenty of room for six adults; we were two parents with two adult children and their partners. One additional toilet would have been convenient. The view is breathtaking and the apartment lies on the sunny side with two balconies/terraces. One has to be prepared for climbing stairs. We enjoyed the sauna. The owners ware most sociable and helpful, interesting people. Engelberg is very nice and hospitable town, with excellent facilities for wintersports.

I discovered alphaven while looking for a hotel at a ski resort near to Zurich, and I consider it one of the luckiest discoveries ever! I booked apartment C within hours. At the time, only my partner and I were booked to come, but even then the cost for the apartment was less than most hotels in Engelberg. Our friends were able to come with us, and it could not have been more perfect for the four of us. Situated at the top of the hill, overlooking Engelberg and the whole valley, spectacular views from all sides. Comfortable beds, great water pressure in the shower, well outfitted kitchen (even a fondue pot!), books, movies, and board games to use. We spent each morning on the balcony, admiring the view and basking in the sun. Each afternoon we explored the resort, did some beginner skiing, and fell hourly more in love with the place. It all felt like a dream! John, the owner, was endlessly hospitable, making sure we were comfortable and had all the information we needed. He was patient with my questions before our arrival and was kind enough to extend our check out time on the last day. Thank you, thank you to John and Ursula for sharing your home with us. We will most certainly be back!
(If I could change one thing . . . . I have to admit I found my pillow a little flat. You can see how amazing this place is if that's the most negative thing I can say about it!) -

Alphaven is a wonderful rental for a group. A beautiful, well maintained place with some of the most amazing views in the alps. Engelberg can be a little sleepy, but if you are there to ski, is a fantastic mountain in a friendly town and is all easily accessible from Zurich airport. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an alpine vacation.

My family & I had a wonderful stay at the alphaven apartments. It was a lovely 10-15 minute walk down to the town centre- we enjoyed doing this every morning. I must admit though that Walking back up the hill once a day was enough for us. It did make it a little more difficult with two small children, but we survived & are fitter for the experience!! The apartment was well equipped for everything to make our stay enjoyable. With young children we appreciated being able to cook dinner & makes lunches at our home away from home. Sitting out on the balcony midday having a bite to eat was a magic experience. 5 stars.
I think it is safe to say that we would all love to return one day, especially when the snow has fallen & the town is full of activity. -

We stayed for 9 nights in apartment B in beginning of December with our 2 children aged 5 and 9 .We arrived in the evening but with the advice that John & Ursula gave us we did not have any difficulties to find the place.The apartment was warm and comfortable everything spotless .When we woke up in the morning we could not stop looking at the spectacular view .My children were thrilled to see the snow and that was the start of our dream holiday.We can't forget our trips to Mt Titlis and walking on Brunni the weather was so nice and sunny.We took lot's of pictures on these beautiful mountains .We travelled everyday to different places my children enjoyed themselves a lot feeding the swans in Luzern a spectacular city .Engelberg is a very nice town and the people are so friendly.We are so lucky that we had this opportunity to stay in this apartment and it will not be our only visit for sure,we hope that we will return soon.I would highly recomend this apartment.

My husband and I just returned from a month in Europe which included staying 5 days in Engelberg at alphaven. It was absolutely fantastic in every way. Staying here was the highlight of our trip. It was a dream come true! The pictures on the website just don't do it justice. It is so much better! The location is superb! There was a hiking trail right outside our door which led up to Ristis and Brunni. The hiking was beautiful with so many options! 320km of hiking trails all around! The cowbells were tinkling, and you could hear them all around! The restaurants on the mountain tops were a great place to lunch halfway through our hikes!
The apartment has everything you could possibly need. It was spotless, well maintained, and just perfect! Every morning we would have our tea and coffee on the deck enjoying the beautiful panoramic views! Every afternoon after hiking we would go back on the deck to watch the paragliders and then the sunset! We had a bonus with a full moon, which shone through the skylight and the windows, reflecting off the snow on top of the mountains, which made for a beautiful sight!
I would highly recommend alphaven! Even if you don't hike, the scenery is breathtaking, the town is lovely.
We have travelled extensively in Canada and the us, and this really is without a doubt the best place we've ever stayed!! -

My wife and I are from Canada we decided to travel Europe for 3 weeks with our friends from Japan (2 couples) and our daughter from Germany. After alot of research I came upon alphahaven. We rented apartment C and apartment D from September 10 -12, 2011. . It looked so beautiful how could a person go wrong in staying there. My expectations before we left were high and alphahaven didn't disappoint! It was one of the highlights of our stay in Europe. Since we rented the two apartments we basically had the whole floor to ourselves to relax and take in the unforgetable views from all sides. The apartments were very comfortable. If one isn't able to relax in that environment, you should just go home!
During our stay we experienced nature at its grandest. We were musically entertained buy the pasture next door with 3 cows and some sheep, all of which had bells around there necks. The constant ringing of the bells were at first a little distracting, but eventually the cows and sheep moved on to another part of the pasture and solitude came over the Chalet.
We had great memories at alphahaven and hope whoever stays there in the future can have as great of a experience as we did.

Arriving at alphaven blessed with cloudless skies during what we later found out was the hottest spell of weather in the area since 2003 (30+ degrees on the mountain!)
Apartment C was our home for the week and being on the top floor has arguably the best view in the house, a view that left us stunned and speechless for at least 30 seconds on stepping onto the balcony for the first time.
The apartment has all that you could possibly need for a week in the alps, extremely clean and tidy, and well maintained.
Engelberg, Titlis and the other surrounding mountains have plenty to offer in terms of walking (and mountain beer refreshments!) The short trip to Lucerne is also worth making if you have a car or by train if you don't.
The walk/climb up to alphaven from Engelberg is quite testing on the legs but it can be made easier by using the lift at Terrace hotel for the first half of the climb and then following the footpath or road for the remainder.
I would recommend a stay at alphaven to friends or family without hesitation, it really is a special place and Engelberg is quite possibly the most beautiful place that I have ever stayed.
Finally special thanks to John and Candy for moving the BBQ upstairs for us. -

All I can say its beautiful! We just didn't want to leave!
We stayed in apartment C and D+ as we were 2 families with small children. The apartment was the same as shown in the photographs. The booking process was very simple! John was fabulous from the start.. he held my reservation for a week till we got confirmation from one of the schools approving the leave!
The apartment is very simple, european with all the facilities and the view is Out of this World. The day we got in a storm rolled in and the temperature fell to 0C in end May! The vision from the apartment was zero! It felt like we were living in the clouds! The kids kept going out on the balcony just to touch the fog! It is something to experience... After that we knew we had made the right choice to stay in alphaven!
Every evening we would drink coffee in the balcony and admire Titlis and the kids would be playing in the living room! I can remember how it felt but am unable to describe it in words. I am speechless... it was magical!
We liked it so much that we seriously considered buying a plot near alphaven!
The only drawback to this place is that you would need a car! We didn't rent one and found ourselves pushing 3 strollers up the hill or just taking a taxi. Another point is that next time we would travel light! The 3 stories is too much to lug up the luggage! I hope they put in an elevator just for the luggage!
I would recommend this apartment to those who can climb up stairs and hike up the mountain if you don't have a car!
My family and I definitely want to visit again one day and this time stay in apartment a which is fabulous... It is the best apartment to stay in alphaven! -

We booked alphaven because we wanted to be located somewhere in the centre of Switzerland to be well placed to explore the country from there. Located literally hanging over the beautiful town of Engelberg, Alphaven is a jewel of a place with views that are hard to describe and imagine without experiencing first hand. The apartment we stayed in was very clean, modern and well equipped with balconies and windows all round to capture the superb views from every corner. The owners are very hospitable and professional and make you feel welcome without intruding on you unnecessarily. I would highly recommend alphaven for families with children, honeymooners, groups of friends, etc. Alphaven and Engelberg are so nice that we hardly went anywhere outside the area apart from Lucerne which is very close.

Shortly after arriving at alphaven a storm rolled over the mountains resulting in the most glorious full double rainbow arching from one end of the valley to the other. And that was just the beginning of the spectacular views in store for us. Alphaven is truly close to heaven.
Alphaven is a wonderful base for summer exploring. We had a car and it was easy to visit Lucerne and all the lovely villages around the lake- then return home to our mountain retreat at night. And of course Engelberg was a delight as well. A perfect summer vacation. -

Alphaven is a work of art. John, the owner is a master photographer with a genuis for beauty. He told me"I knew within 5 minutes of standing on the vacant lot" his vision for 'Alp heaven' "It was years in the making"
We rented C and D apts for 2 weeks in early June 2011. All 4 of us were awe struck by the 220 degree vistas which changed constantly depending on light. Wild flowers growing everywhere...cows with bells...snow covered mountains on all sides...hiking trails galore...the Engelberg Valley and town below
Food in Switzerland is expensive so we recommend the Co-op grocery store/restaurant. Carrying food up the hill to the apt is a daily issue if you don't have a car. There are many steps.
The town's people were friendly and honest in returning things we left in our delighted absentmindedness. I doubt if we will every be able to top alphaven's beauty...Anywhere. All four of us agreed it was our best vacation spot ever.

Don’t remember the exact words i wrote in the guestbook while i checked out of alpheaven but what I do remember is the feeling of not wanting to leave yet.
Me and my family stayed there for 3 nights in the first week of May 2011 and had a very pleasant and comfortable stay during that period.
John and Ursala have made every attempt to keep the virtue of the property name and give it a real sense. The location (although a little away from the village downhill) gives a splendid view of mt. Titlis. We stayed in apartment C (which can easily accommodate 6 adults) that had all the basic facilities you could possibly need during your stay.
We knew that restaurant and markets are little far from the cottage so we were equipped with ready to eat food, which came quite handy during the stay.
I would certainly recommend this hidden gem to anyone who’s planning a trip to Engelberg.

Just pack and go, this is the most fabulous place in the world to get away from it all for a few days or weeks, Alphaven owned by John and Ursula O'Brien is perfectly located with the best views of the Swiss alps you can imagine, and close to the Town of Engelberg a short walk and at every turn another stunning view. Alphaven is perfection, clean, well designed, comfortable, peaceful and has an amazing location above the town. We will definitely return and stay longer next time.

This is an outstanding apartment with an awesome view in a beautiful mountain setting. Owners (John) very knowledgeable and helpful-gave great advice and info. Lots to see and do with easy travel by train to entire region. Only a 15 minute walk to the train station. This rental is worth every penny!!

We stayed for 4 nights in apartment C in april 2011 with our 4 children aged 9 to 14. What an enchanting place this is! The view from the apartment is spectacular to say the least. An ever changing, living masterpiece - we found that we spent much of our time in the apartment looking at the view that we never grew tired of. The apartment was immaculately clean, and offered everything we needed for our 4 night stay. The kids loved sleeping up in the loft - a real novelty for them. The use of washing machine and dryer was extremely helpful. The walk up from the town to the apartment was a challenge to say the least, but all added to the experience of staying at alphaven - and worth it to be rewarded at the end with the view from the apartment of Mt Titlis (next time I think we'll get a car!!). Engelberg itself is a delightful town, with plenty to see and do. The trip up to the snow to Mt Trubsee and Mt Titlis was unforgettable - our 4 children had never seen snow before, so you can imagine their excitement and joy! John is the most helpful host - all questions I had before arrival were answered promptly and with lots of detail, and he was able to provide us with extra information regarding our stay in Engelberg and Switzerland. It was a pleasure to meet you John, and thank you so much for making our stay at alphaven an enjoyable and memorable one. Our only regret is that we could not stay for longer!! We hope to see you again sometime, and will be sure to recommend alphaven to anyone heading to Switzerland.

We spend four nights of our 3 week European honeymoon at alphaven's apartment a and I honestly believe there is no place in the world that can match the breathtaking views that alphaven offered!
It felt like we were living in an idealised dream - beautiful modern apartment, panoramic views, fireplace, private jacuzzi, complimentary bottle of champagne etc etc etc!
The town of Engelberg is itself a charming town, with friendly people and charming restaurants and shops.

A simply wonderful apartment (B) in a fantastic location. Engelberg is a great little town with everything you could want and alphaven provides a wonderful perspective on this amazing valley and town. The apartment was first rate and the views simply exquisite. We really enjoyed our week and were lucky to get fresh powder even in mid- April. The skiing is great and the pistes well groomed and exciting. This is a special place in every sense of the word. Worth every penny.

We stayed here in apartment C for 4 nights as a family of 6. We were greeted by John who wasted no time in pointing out the sights and advising on walking routes to town - so helpful!
The apartment was very spacious, extremely clean and contained everything that we could have possibly needed - a real home from home.
The views were breathtaking and have to be seen to be believed!
Location was fabulous, just a short walk to town. Lots for all the family to do on Mount Titlis- the toboggan run is a must, not had that much fun in years!

We stayed in apartment a at alphaven and it was pure luxury. Everything within the apartment was absolutely perfect with stunning panoramic views, Log fire, outside hot tub.
It was extremely spacious and very private indeed. We spent most our days within the apartment and really didn't feel the need to leave - it was that wonderful!
The owners John and Ursula were extremely helpful throughout the whole booking process and communication with them was first class. I would highly recommend this place as it really is a little gem. We look forward to returning to alphaven in the near future. -

we are a family of 4 (2 teenagers) from New Zealand on a 2 month tour of Europe. This place is a holiday from a holiday. The owners description is accurate though the view is even more stunning than any description. We visited on train and so didn't have a car to manage the hill. Some unfit people, (like my wife) may find the 20 min (15min if you are fit) walk up the hiill from the village daunting. My wife walked down to the regular bus and taxied back up (about 15-20chf) so no problem; the view is so stunning and any location in the village will not have this and will have street (or party) noise. All the family rate this apartment (B) and location the best, and best value, of the tours we have done.

We will be returning to Alphaven this year for our third stay in as many years. The fact that we are coming from Australia says a lot about this property and the way that John and Ursula look after their guests. When we first looked for accommodation in Switzerland, we thought we'd be staying at what we considered to be a traditional swiss dwelling - all timber and small windows - not really what we wanted. I mean, if you've got it, flaunt it in terms of the wonderful view!
After looking at many properties on the internet, Alphaven suddenly popped onto our screen and the rest, as they say, is history. The website is the best we've seen, answered every question we could possibly have had and it just got better and better.
We arrived in foggy, semi-dark conditions to a glass sanctuary perched on the side of a hill and I use the word "hill" advisedly. The property is easy to access from the heart of Engelberg. We came by car (people mover actually) but train is an excellent option too. What greeted us was a beautifully designed and spacious apartment with floor to ceiling glass and every modern amenity.
The full spendour of the view did not reveal itself until the next morning, when we were up at six admiring the sun coming up over the mountains, with the majestic Mt Titlis opposite our living room! By the way, the weather was superb during our entire stay.
You may think I'm over the top, but when you've had a full day out sight seeing in a beautiful part of the world and you can walk into your accommodation in the evening and say "ahh, I'm home, time for a glass of wine"....well, you know you've found gold!! -

Everything is absolutely great with this apartment. The views are unforgettable, the hot-tub and the fireplace just great. We were very well recieved by John, who had heated the hot tub for us and placed a bottle of Prosecco on the living room table. What more can you ask for in terms of service?
The area is wonderful-we skied both in Brunni and in Titlis, the week was sunny and the town is cute.
We bought cheese at the monastery and had dinner in the Alpenclub-beautiful old restaurant. We will definitely come back to this pearl in the alps! -

A wonderful escape for two honeymooners. View from apartment was spectacular. Champagne chilled on ice in the snow was a wonderful extra. Only comment would be that the heated outdoor spa should be made available to all guests, not just the adjoining apartment and a fireplace or woodburner should be installed in all apartments, to create that romantic logfire experience. Booking was executed smoothly via email and all information about how to get there and what to expect was extremely useful.

I had a wonderful time at Alphaven. The owners were the most helpful people i have dealt with and realy gave me great insight into the local areas and things to do.
The room was stunning,the views amazing all in all so breathtaking that words dont come close.
I would highly reomend it to anyone.
