For the more sedate but drinking crowd Husong’s has been serving beer, tequila and margaritas to an enthusiastic bi-national crowd since 1892.
For local wine tasting the Santo Tomas bodega (6th and Miramar) and L.A. Chetto just north of Ensenada on the road to Tijuana are excellent. Ensenada now has its own microbrewery, Agua Mala, housed at the Motel California also on the road to Tijuana just north of L.A. Chetto on the opposite side of the highway.

Ensenada cuisine: fish tacos and much more

Dieticians have long recognized the superior value of the Mediterranean diet (fish, salads, pasta, tomato sauces, wine, olive oil and fish). You can find it all locally produced in Ensenada along with delicious Mexican sauces, spices and flavors. Ensenada’s fish tacos are most popular but not as healthy or as varied as local popular marisco (shell fish) stands, e.g. Mariscos Guerrense, at Calle Primera and Alvarado, that serve tostados or cocktails with generous portions of fish or shrimp ceviche (prepared with lemon juice only), octopus, mussels, crab, sea snail, fish pate, link cod, sea urchin or black clam. For even more creativity do not miss Mario’s Tacos de Mariscos that features tacos of salmon, or machaca de atun (shredded tuna), chili rellenos stuffed with shrimp and incredible sauces. (#351 Rayon between 3rd and 4th Street (calle)) Or if your taste lies more towards pizzas, delicious wood fired pizzas are served at Covelli’s (Miramar 637, live music on Wednesday night).
