Dar Beida - a piece of paradise in Essaouira
Our stay at Dar Beida was the highlight of our trip to Morocco. After a hectic few days in Marrakesh, the beautiful comfort of Dar Beida was the perfect sanctuary! Emma was a wonderful hostess who went above and beyond in making sure we were at ease with our surroundings. She introduced us to some fantastic local spots, which really enhanced our trip. I stayed in the house with 4 of my friends, and we had ample room. It was tough to leave the house in the mornings we were so happy in our environment! The house is truly a beautiful work of art, and I would recommend for anyone to stay there. We had the pleasure of having a local meal cooked for us and brought to the house one night, which Emma organized. This was by far my best meal in Morocco. Made with love, and served in the most beautiful setting of Dar Beida...I wish I was back there!
perfection from beginning to end
We stayed for a week at the beginning of September, our first stop in Morocco and our first time in the country. It was the best experience. Essaouira is a great introduction to Morocco, small, mellow and friendly.
The house is huge for two people, (we probably recommend it for four people or more) but it felt absolutely luxurious and it is decorated so beautifully. The two terraces are amazing, best place to hang in the afternoon. Everything was taken care of for us, from the pickup at the airport to the recommendations for our next stops in the country after we left. We also highly recommend you have amina, the housekeeper, cook for you at least one night. It was one of the best meals in Morocco. Emma was so helpful, walking us through town to give us an insider's point of view and showing us her favourite places-- not one of them failed us, she knows best. We are glad we stayed here, it lived up to expectations.
Fantastic house, can't wait to be back (and wonderful host)
We've been back for about 10 days but I'm still gushing about Dar Beida all the time.
The house is just fantastic : it's been renovated with a lot of taste, it is beautiful, still functional, and really well located.
We were only 3 people in the house which was pure luxury but even with 8 people in, I'd say that you have plenty of space to relax & chill out, which is really what you want to do while in Essaouira.
The only problem was that the house is so great, that you'll find trouble leaving it but on the other hand, the locals are so nice that they'll give you a reason to go out!
My favourite places were the top terrace (wonderful wonderful to watch the seagalls and enjoy a nice diner with the feeling to have the world for yourself) and the open kitchen. The rooms are also very comfortable and I was very pleasantly surprised with the bathrooms since I was not expecting good pressure and nice hot water (and it was always the case).
I read the previous comment about the floor and don't entirely agree : the floor on the top terrace is brand new and yes, a bit of paint is coming off on the lower terrace but you are in the medina so every thing comes off after 3 months and really we didn't think it was a problem at all.
Besides, Amina is a gem and is also a wonderful cook. Emma is a star. She's been so wonderful with us : she took the time to show us her favourite spots and she was just the kindest. I knew all week long that she was just a phone call away and that she was willing to help us should we need it in any way.
Can't recommend Dar Beida enough. Really. Don't hesitate to book it but leave a week free (or more) for me next year :)
Didn't want to leave!
Even before we left England, Emma replied promptly to my emails, we stayed in Marakesh for two nights, and on Emma's recommendation les jardins des douars for one. Emma arranged all our transportation, even going as far as picking us up from the hotel and driving us to the riad herself, such personal service! Our trip was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, because of this Emma very kindly upgraded us from Dar Emma to Dar Beida, a beautiful and very cool White House set in the heart of the medina. Upon our arrival Emma showed us around the medina, this saves so much time in the long run as she points out all the best places to eat, cafes, resturants, even where to buy leather, rugs, take cookery lessons, essaouirra really is a hive of activity and yet Dar Beida is a peaceful oasis. If you are looking at booking a stay at either Dar Emma or Dar Beida but are toying with another beautiful riad in essaouirra and are not sure what to do, then my advice would be to book with Dar Emma or Dar Beida as you have Emma as an added bonus. We had an electricity cut one evening, the electrician was there within 20 minutes and Emma even rang the resturant to tell them we was running late! Nothing was too much trouble. I understand also, that if Emma's away she has other trustworthy people that stand in her place. Amina comes everyday to clean and makes beds, we miss her! The only really sad, disappointing and actually quite upsetting part of our stay in Dar Beida was having to leave and come home to a wet and grey England!

Dar Beida a truly unique holiday experience in itself.
Dar Beida is situated in the heart of the Medina Essaouira.
Staying at Dar Beida is a truly unique holiday experience in itself. Once inside your gripped by the the traditional Riad architectural stone archways. The house has been lovingly restored by the owner Emma, stylish sixties minimalist decor throughout furnished with an eclectic mix of interesting interiors. The house has a great layout with a sunny private roof terrace, many places to sit, read and relax.
The house is equipped with all you need for your stay, a daily cleaning service is provided.
Emma is professional and communicates with her guests prior to your stay, she arranges transportation etc. Moreover Emma greets you on arrival and shows you the best places to eat drink and avoid. This is priceless info that saves time and heartache.
A home cooked Moroccan meal can also be provided at an extra cost highly recommended.
Dar Beida is a great place to stay, not too far from the beach near all the shops, restaurants and represents good value for money.
We'll be back!
The house is incredible, we loved it. Emma was really helpful and made sure we were well looked after, knew where to go and what to do. we really did have a great time and will be back! One tip, fly to Marrakesh not agadir, the agadir to Essaouira drive is long!
It is a very nice and cool place to stay
Emma Wilson is a very nice, helpful Person. I never had such a good service, when I rented a house!
Thank you Emma for everything!

chillaxed boho luxury in an ancient and vibrant medina
Dar Beida is an oasis of stylish calm and relaxation in a vibrant and bustling medina. A home away from home rather than a holiday rental, Emma has poured her love, good taste and thoughtfulness into it. The sun-filled terraces offer shaded corners, the bathrooms are beautifully moulded and modern, the security of the building allows you to sleep with your courtyarded bedroom doors open to admit a cooling sea breeze.
Emma takes away any pressure the minute you land at Marrakech, by organising her local taxi service to collect you, bring you back, and take you on any excursions you would like during your stay.
The magic that she weaves for you on her introduction to the medina is invaluable; where to find the best of what is local, balanced with the best of the foreign invasions like cappuccinos, croissants and Italian icecream; which are the best restaurants, cafes and bars.
We can also recommend amena's chicken tagine, which includes a huge array of Moroccan salads, on your first night in the house. It's a wonderful introduction to the flavours of Morocco.
stay like a local
outside wild north-african street life - inside stylish and cool. Furnished with an excellent taste ,art , books and music .
Buy breakfast around the corner , get your veggies from the market and feel like a local , the everyday cleaning makes this stay very relaxed for everyone .
And I loved the bedroom on the upper rooftop! "I´ll be back"
Summer in the city
Essaouira is a fascinating energetic town, and Dar Beida was a gorgeous calm haven within the buzz of the nearby market. Emma and Graham could not have been more helpful, either in person or by email. Would absolutely visit again.
Best holiday ever!
We were trying to book a 2 week pool/beach holiday in Greece but were worried how we would keep our boys (8 and 10ys) occupied for that length of time...A friend suggested Dar Beida instead so we booked it...We have just returned from the most brilliant stay...The beautiful house is in the medina so we spent time buying the most delicious freshly baked breads, fruit and veg, olives, dates and figs...Graham was excellent at recommending all the best restaurants and cafes and beaches...He even grilled our fresh fish from the fish market for us when we had our beach picnic...He also accompanied us to his rug supplier where we bought the most mouthwatering textiles...There were plenty of activities and the 2 weeks flew past, I wish we were still there...The house was a great base and a wonderful place to entertain our friends and family..Amina came everyday to clean and nothing was ever a problem...Her cooking was also delicious...Staying at Dar Beida was a fascinating experience that I will never forget.
White nest in the blue sky
A perfect moment, in the perfect place at the perfect time.
What a treat to be in the hearth of Essaouira medina, in such a delighted home done with passion and sens of details by Emma and Graham. You immediatly feel at home as Emma tells you all you should know and where to go, and what to do, everything is open.
We enjoy most to be on the roof top looking at the sky, earing children playing, people talking, medina life, like a special musical murmur.
So peacefull, so restfull, thank you for that moment.
One of a kind house and great recommendations from the owner Emm
The house is quite special. It is tucked away in a truly local neighbourhood, yet the decor is an eclectic mix of modern, ethnic and retro. It is on four levels; we did not use the ground floor at all since it is quite dark. Really loved the open kitchen on the first floor, which is where we spent most of the family time as well as the terrace on the 2nd floor, which is great for chilling out and for the kids to play and hang out in the hanging mat. The house is great for one or two families (we brought our 4 year old twins and 8 year old), but I would not recommend it for toddlers in view of all the stairs. What makes a real difference with staying in this house is Emma. On our first day at the house, Emma spent several hours showing us around town, pointing out the good (and bad) places for dinner, lunch, shopping etc. She even went out of her way to drive me to a big supermarket and show me the place with the best croissants and parmesan in town, even though her plane was leaving that same day! We followed all of her recommendations and they were spot on. They really made our stay in Essaouira so much better. We did not have water for 2 days, which was annoying, but the entire street was out of water - it comes with the territory! I can wholeheartedly recommend the place.
Young family with baby twin boys had an unforgettable experience
We (German couple in mid 30ies with 1 year old twin boys plus their grandmother) stayed at Emma's Dar Beida for two weeks in late Feb/early March 2012 and had an amazing time. Emma was super welcoming and flexible, catered to all our baby-related extra needs (high chairs, baby cots, extra set of radiators etc) and was always approachable and helpful. The house itself is a true treasure with amazing interior design and tons of rare, creative and special furniture or design objects. It is also well looked after by amina. who cleans daily and is also a great cook. Also we fell in love with the two roof terraces and the open fireplaces in the living room. Great CD library and nice book selection comes on top.
P.S.: For others it may be worthwhile to know that we managed to heat up the place in a way that our baby boys always felt warm and comfy - this is not always the case in Morocco this time of year! (note that outside temperatures in Essaouira were around 16 / 20 C daytime and at night it dropped to about 11/13 C, but the sometimes heavy winds tend to make it feel cooler than it is)
Spacious, unqiue, beautiful house in Essouira
We stayed at Dar Beida for 4 nights but we wished it was longer. From the day we arrived Emma was an amazing host, she showed us around the area and recommended places to eat and shops to go in. She was always at the end of the phone if needed.
The house has been designed with a lot of thought. They have kept the beautiful character and furnished it with unique items. It is a very cool house!
It takes no time to walk to the main sights. Their are some amazing restaurants very close by.
I would recommend this to my friends and to families as their is a lot of space.
a cool place!
This is a super cool place, clean & great styling.
To put it like this: these people understand what they are doing and are doing it very well!!
With small kids the medina is quite something
so realize it!
US living in the UK
Our week of culture shock...
We traveled from London with our two young children and another family with two young children. We stayed in Marrakech for several nights, in the atlas Mtns for 2 nights and then in Essaouira for 2 nights. It was much too rushed of a trip, but great all at the same time. Dar Beida was a wonderful find in Essaouira! We had a hard time finding anything better online, in fact, this was the best we came across. It proved to be an excellent find, mainly due to the owner, Emma, who made our very short stay perfect. She replied to every email and question from the initial planning phase almost instantly, she arranged for transportation (including car seats for our little ones) with excellent drivers for great prices, she gave us a personal tour of the town after greeting us at the home, she introduced us to local vendors so we didn't have to go through the haggling process, etc. Her service was priceless! The Riad itself is a piece of art and incredibly well decorated. It had everything we needed. We felt save, albeit in a foreign country, and had no bad experiences out and about in town. Morocco, in general, was a quite a bit more dirty, dusty and culturally different than we had anticipated, so we got a good dose of culture "shock". I would highly recommend this Riad and Emma, as it really made for an excellent adventure! Thank you Emma!
New York City
Cannot thank you enough for all your fab tips. We totally loved hippie lunch on the beach and Sidi Kaouki.
The house was great and really comfy.
Fyi - Caravane food was not the best. But nice decor and good service. Elizir was great

Everything is perfectly organised. The maid service. The transfer from Marrakech to the house, the welcome around the medina by the owner telling us places where to eat,to buy and to go...
Our excellent experience at Dar Beida
Dar Beida is the opposite of a standard and anonymous rental house, and this is the main reason of our complete satisfaction. The house is located in the hearth of the medina, close to the main gate and the impressive food market. The district is very popular and far less "for tourists” than other parts of Essaouira historical centre. Streets around are always busy and we felt perfectly safe at any time, even at night; the house itself is a peaceful place, like an island of calm in the crowded city. It has four level, with a beautiful terrace at the third floor and a dramatic bedroom on the roof. We especially appreciated the second floor, the main level, where we spent most part of our time when we stayed at home. All the spaces are furnished in a very attentive and personal way, once again we didn't feel to stay in a tourist rental house. At the same time services was simply perfect: the taxi service from and to Marrakech was both impeccable; the check-in with Graham, one of the owners, was friendly but fully professional, with a very useful and pleasant first walk in the medina for some essential information; Amina, who daily looks after cleaning is an attentive, discrete and nice person: she cooked twice a great tagine poulet for a very honest price. In general we appreciated the attitude of the owners: Emma, with whom I had only email exchanges, for her professional and kind way of managing the reservation; Graham, who was during our 10 days of stay the best host one could ever meet; and they both for the beautiful place they created together. It would be difficult to find some negative implication: perhaps some cats coming from the streets to the third floor terrace? The only trouble was to keep the bedrooms doors shut at night. For all of us - my wife, our 2-years-old child, my two adolescent children and me - it was the first time in Morocco: as first experience of this country I couldn't imagine nothing better than staying in Essaouira at Dar Beida.
Dar beida is a fabulous place to stay where you are surrounded by beautiful things - the house is creatively designed, special personal touches and in the heart of the medina. the only place to stay in Essouira in our minds!!
A great place to get a taste of life in the Medina
Dar Beida is a wonderful place to stay in Essaouira. The interior decoration is great and sets it apart from many of the more traditional places. The location, right in the centre of the medina, close to the markets is fantastic! Emma is a wonderful host - always checking that we were ok. She gave us a tour when we arrived and pointed out good restaurants, hamman, cookery school and gave us inside tips about local markets and places to visit. A great service!
Exotic holiday with home comforts provided.
Dar Beida is well-situated within the medina. The interior is beautifully designed and comfortable. Emma has thought of every home comfort to help guests settle in quickly. Delicious meals are provided upon request. There is plenty to see and do: the souks, horse-riding, cookery courses, hammans, restaurants, the port and fabulous beaches. Fantastic place for a holiday: exotic but not too far away.
A beautiful riad in a beautiful city.
After the hussle and bustle of Marrakech, relaxing at Dar Beida in Essaouira was exactly what my family needed. We were met at the house by owner Graham who then spent the next 45 minutes walking us around the city. He gave excellent recommendations for restaurants and a hot little tip on an Italian deli (I currently live in Mauritania where pork products are impossible to find). Emma and Graham were available for any additional help we needed. The chicken tagine prepared by the housekeeper was one of our favorite meals of the trip. I have already spoken to people about skipping Marrakech and heading to Essaouira. Dar Beida was a reason that we loved the city so much.
Colors & Flavors
Dar Beida is an amazing location for big or small families to live a beautiful vacation, rich in culture and fun. Each day the rooms are thoroughly cleaned by the housekeeper amina. Its position in the M?dina is perfect. It allows you to have at hand infinite bakeries, fruit-stalls, and restaurants. The house has a great atmosphere. When you return from a long day it is the calm, silent place that makes you feel just at home. The top terrace offers not only a spectacular view of the city, but also of the small roads beneath. It is like viewing a film never released before.
When you arrive you are greeted and shown around the M?dina, either by Graham or Emma. They will show you the places where to buy your vegetables, or where to go and have a light noon-lunch.
You will find that thanks to their suggestions your stay will be facilitated. Beach restaurants where all the family can go, and gorgeous deserted beaches where to pass your days.
The colors of the house are all very soft and cozy, mixing well with the colors in the streets (blue, green and yellow). The furniture and accessories are all part of the best selection from the 60's. All with impeccable taste, giving you a sense of living in one of the "magazines? homes (it actually has appeared on quite a lot of high class interior-magazines). There is plenty of Cd's to pick from, but also speakers to which you can attach your Ipod's of Pc's. Internet is also a well-functioning facility.
You will find this vacation a both relaxing and breath-taking, thanks to the amazing hosts!
A musical New Year
Fabulous New Year in Dar Beida
We Loved Dar Beida the decor was stylish but really welcoming, the location in the moroccan quarter was great really lively and you really felt like you were away, the guys in the shops opposite were lovely and we bought food locally in the medina. Emma and Graham showed great hospitality and Emma's tour and advice were invaluable and made our stay so successful. We saw unspoilt beaches ,ate in great restaurants especially Taros ,chilled out at ocean vagabond , kids took a camel ride we had beautiful walks and new years eve with the musicians was unfogettable . So Essaouira had it all for us a lively different culture ,beautiful setting ,fantastic weather (we were really lucky) home cooked food in the house by amina and great trips to Teguense where the fish was wonderful. The shopping too, thanks to Emma was brilliant and we were all thrilled with our finds on our return. The house is a real sanctuary from the hustle and bustle it was Emma and Graham 's home and its a lovely house to be in: lounging on the terraces or chilling at night round the amazing log fires. We had a great time and will be back for longer next time , my husband who's a musician himself and just finished a long tour only just started to relax after a week so for us 2 weeks next time!
New York City
Amazing house. Incredibly helpful host!
Great house (watch your head if you're taller than 5").
Emma is the best host ever!!! she will make sure the experience is unforgettable.
Newcastle upon Tyne
We stayed at Dar Beida for 1 week as part of our honeymoon and it is an amazing place! Brilliantly done out with a great CD and book collection too. Very happy lying in the hammock relaxing in the sun!
Emma was really helpful, giving us lots of good suggestions for things to do and great places to eat in Essaouira!
A Great Experience in a beautiful house
A fantastic Experience in a Beautiful Riad "Da Beida?. The apartment was fun and well equipped. Mixed with modern local/European art coupled with a 60's vibe- Da Beida made us feel totally at home. Essaouira (which is quieter than Marrakech) was magical and friendly; the fresh fish was outstanding in the local huts on the square. The food was great but pick your dishes carefully as the meat can be tougher than in England. Emma was very friendly and showed us everything on arrival which proved invaluable. I would highly recommend this place.

Dar Beida - a great house
Very nice and special holiday house. Decorated with great taste and personality. Very friendly. Nothing to complain about, really a great experience. We will be back...
Kingston upon Thames
Dar Beida far outweighed all expectations
We expected Dar Beida to be a bit special but the website does not do it justice, we were absolutely delighted with the accomodation - the coolest place we have ever stayed. We were welcomed at 10pm with local food beautifully cooked and presented and the following morning had a tour of the area, the highlights and lowlights which saved us days - we had the insights into Essaouira that normally you start getting days into your stay from day one, perfect! The location was great, amongst the local life and characters and yet a haven of tranquillity. Determined not to cook by day two the gorgeous kitchen and the local produce inspired me and we really enjoyed feeling at home rather than that 'must get out and about feeling'. Within minutes we had a choice of restaurants and local shopping, in 10 minutes we were by the sea. A 20 minute walk along the beach took us to some very laid back cafes where we watched the surfers, a short taxi ride took us to beautiful beaches, quiet, unspoilt and sooo relaxing.
We would go back tomorrow.
An amazing experience!
Dar Beida is beautiful, fun & quirky! Emma's warm introduction to Essaouira, her tour and advice was invaluable. All of her recommendations, from places to eat, to visit, to shop, to get the best coffee, eggs, bread, to managing ourselves in the souks..were perfect! Her advise enabled us to get the best out of a precious week! If you love life, I cannot recommend Dar Beida & Emma highly enough!
A Relaxing Stay in a Beutiful House
A beautiful artistic house in the heart of Essaouira, comfortable and relaxing with a peaceful sheltered terrace if you just want to stay in or wonderful beaches 10 minutes away to walk along.
Emma was so helpful with suggestions and a tour of the town pointing out the best places to vue, eat and shop.
We will certainly be back!
A stylish retreat in the heart of the town
This riad is beautiful! It's filled with interesting and wonderful objects and has been featured heavily in interior magazines. It's well located off the main street in the food market so there's much Moroccan life outside to see on the way in and out. We made friends with all the local shopkeepers opposite and they were fantastic with the children, making the whole stay a really enjoyable one. We were very well looked after by Graham, Emma's partner, who showed us real kindness and care when our toddler had a minor accident. He arranged a doctor and personally took us to the local hospital. We were very grateful. He also took us on a tour of the markets on our first day which helped enormously in getting our bearings. We didn't meet Emma but she was always very responsive to queries in the run up to our arrival and answered all our questions promptly.
The riad also comes with a housekeeper, Amina, who keeps the place clean and tidy. Her tagine on our first night was memorable. If I had any criticisms it's that the living room, while elegant, didn't have a large sofa to crash on (but some cushions that the kids could sit on) and also we didn't work out the way to get clean towels and bedding for a while (then realised, like in a hotel, you leave them on the floor when dirty and amina replaces). This information could be included in the notes or spare towels and bedding left for guest. Also, we could only see 4 beach towels on our arrival, which isn't enough for a large party to use to lie on and also dry with at the beach (we were 4 adults and 5 children). That said, Graham provided us with more beach towels immediately when we requested this. We can recommend this riad as a really elegant and very well located place to explore Essaouira.
Dada & Giggi
It's surely one of the best place to stay in Essaouira!
Our coin of paradise during the chaos of the Gnaoua Festival.
We really spent a great time.
thanks a lot to Emma and Graham.
we will come back!

Peaceful retreat in the heart of Essaouira
We've just returned from a wonderful family break in Essaouira and Dar Beida helped to make it just perfect. It's a unique place, decorated with an eclectic and very individual taste, but most of all its in the heart of the medina. From the very first day, we felt at one with the street life in this very special, very safe place. The children loved the freedom of being able to pop to the bakers for freshly baked bread, the shopkeeper for eggs or the fruit stall for oranges to squeeze for breakfast. After wonderful days body boarding or lazing on the beach, the children would happily run ahead through the narrow crowded streets to arrive at our peaceful retreat.
Essaouira gave the children a freedom they lack in England and Dar Beida allowed us all to escape the heat and bustling streets for lazy late afternoons of tranquillity and calm. Lying in the hammock, it was hard to believe we were in the middle of such a busy city. Rested and refreshed we would emerge in the evening to vibrant streets, selling everything you would imagine and more - everyone providing a warm and friendly welcome.
Our days ended back in the peace of Dar Beida, lounging on the decks with a glass on wine, some good music and a far to competitive game of chess, monopoly or scrabble. ( I won!)
It was a family holiday we will not forget made that bit extra special having Dar Beida to come home to.
a cool oasis in the midst of the medina
We were travelling with 2 grown up children and teenage son and Dar Beida was perfect for our needs in its layout. The house is so intriguing and its such a privilege to stay amongst so many fascinating objets. Bathrooms and bedrooms really attractive - the walk to the loo from the eyrie at the top a little wild in the windy nights - but a bit like staying in your own little fort as you peeped out over the battlements!! Always great to come home to ... Graham was really helpful and showed us all around - and there is a very informative welcoming folder. Amina cooked a fab tagine - but order for less - huge portions!!
Your own piece of Paradise
After the hustle of walking through the Medina you arrive in to the calmness of Dar Beida. This beautiful house is a great place to just let the world go by - hanging in the hammock on the upper terrace with a g and t in hand is one of the best ways to spend your holiday.
Beautifully stylish house with extremely welcoming atmosphere and superb owners, who go out of their way to help, inform and ensure you have the best stay. Exquisite taste in a very central location, providing all that you need for a comfortbale and enjoyable stay.
Perfect haven for a relaxing immersion in Essaouira
Since the first day of our week-long stay I always enjoyed opening the door to Dar Beida, with its white walls and cool interior.
The house is more than comfortable, it's also beautiful to look at. The rooms are all different and charming. On the terrace you could be on another world, dining on large crabs (a bargain at the port), hiding in your book, or listening to your ipod while the wind swings you in the hammock.
Emma, the owner, provides a useful tour of the medina on the day of your arrival, helping you get your bearings. The daily maid service allows you to get up without making your bed, leaving the dishes in the sink and coming home to find it all clean.
Overall a wonderful stay and I would go back in a flash! Maybe in September when there's less wind.

What a wonderful house in a wonderful town
Staying at Dar Beida is a unique experience. The friendly and welcoming service that Emma gives you on arrival made us feel instantly relaxed and at home. She took us on a tour of the town and her excellent local knowledge of restaurants, hammans, carpet shops (we wanted to buy a carpet!), cookery school (I wanted to learn how to cook a tagine!) ensured we made the most of our holiday in Essaouira.
We loved Dar Beida. It is the most beautiful and comfortable house. A real fairy tale home. It is very well equipped and the maid meant we didn't have the household chores either (and she will cook for you if you want - wonderful food).
The location of the house is great. It is in the medina and easy to find.
We loved the roof top terraces and bedrooms and living rooms with their traditional fire places. Our kids loved the big bath!
Really I can't think of anything that we didn't like about our stay at Dar Beida.
Thank you Emma, we will definately recommend you to everyone we know and would love to return one day.

A haven of peace and quiet
We started our Morocco experience in Essaouira and just loved it. Dar Beida is
a haven of piece and quiet. We loved the interior, the combination of sixties
furniture and the traditional way of building! A great place to spend your
On the first day Emma showed us around town and we got to know some great
spots where we spent a lot of time. Thanks a lot for everything!
daddy, can we go back to stay in the white house???
We had a fantastic time at Dar Beida. The house is beautifully quirky - set in a quiet part of the medina but close enough to everything that you need to have a really wonderful holiday.
The kitchen is well equipped, the living areas relaxing and the bedrooms chilled and restful. Two great terraces to grab some sun and two luxurious bathrooms. You won't want to go home.
Emma's advice and initial tour of the medina was very helpful. The transport that she organised made for a stress free journey from Marrakesh with two small children - very prompt and reliable.
Essaouira is a very chilled out holiday destination - suitable for all, including families. I recommend Ocean Vagabond cafe at the end of beach and the cooking of Amina (the house cook.
I'd strongly recommend this house for your stay in Morocco. There isn't one thing about the house that I would want to change. A lot of thought and TLC have gone into making this house special. We all loved it - kids included. Trust me, this is the one for you. We will definitely be back - again and again I hope.
We had a wonderful time at Dar Beida.
The house is exquisite and jaw-dropping, beautifully designed, chilled and funky, yet still homely. The two roof terraces deserve a special mention, great places to just sit and relax both during the day and the evening. Should you be unlucky with the weather during your stay, or if you just want to stay in during the evenings, there is a great selection of books, CDs and games in the house.
Emma is the perfect host, and could not be more helpful and welcoming. The taxis arranged from the airport and during our stay were first rate. The tour of the medina is a lovely touch which really helps to introduce you to the town and the places to explore during your stay. We had arranged a meal cooked by Amina for our arrival and this was superb.
Highly recommended places to visit are the Moroccan cookery school l?Atelier Madada, where you can practise your tagine skills, also the beach at Tegenza which is a half hour taxi ride away where you can enjoy miles of deserted beach and a fantastic lunch at the beachside.
We will return soon!
This lovely old Moroccan home in the heart of Essaouira's Medena is a rare
gem and a real find.
The interior is cool, funky and in complete harmony with the old style
There's great outdoor space too - two roof terraces which give panoramic
views over the town.
The owner - Emma was exceptionally helpful (but not in your face) - getting
food and drink in on our arrival, giving us a tour of the Medena, organising
our transport, giving invaluable advice and tips on shops, places of interest,
beaches to visit etc.
You'll have a fab and unique time here.
We loved Dar Beida!
We loved Dar Beida! A really unique and beautifully restored house within the old walls of the medina. So convenient for the town and the sea. Such a pleasure to open the ancient wooden door and escape to our relaxing retreat after the buzz of the souks! Every day we discovered another visual treat among Emma and Graham's wonderful eclectic collection. The house is a real home with a lovely atmosphere and all the modern comforts...my favourite was the huge hammam inspired bath...so much space, lovely terraces to catch the sun all day long, well equipped kitchen if you decide to cook rather than have the superb Morroccan meals cooked and delivered for you by Amina. Emma was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, and she spent time on the first day whizzing us around the town pointing out all the sights and places to explore later which really helped us to get our bearings.
