    Additional Location Information

    Location:
You really need only 90 seconds to reach the Messe (trade fair) Essen on foot. From the window of your apartment you can see the exhibition entrance. Driving, you reach the motorway A 52 as fast as that, taking you to the Messe Düsseldorf in about 20-30 minutes.
    Directions:
If you want to reach us by car, just enter Norbertstraße 57, 45131 Essen, into your navigation system or route planner and follow the instructions.
Arriving by train, take a taxi or the underground U 11 to the end of the line. You will be here in six minutes.
Taking the train from Frankfurt Airport to Essen
It is easy to take a direct train from Frankfurt Airport to Essen. You can find suitable trains on the website of Deutsche Bahn (www.bahn.de). When you are on this page, you can change the language to English by clicking on the little German flag marked “Deutschland”. There you can enter the destinations as follows: In the "From" field enter "Frankfurt/Main/Flughafen". In "To" enter "Essen Hbf". The search will then return a list of results, where you can choose a connection.
You can see that there are trains that are relatively fast (those use the new high-speed track) and slower ones that go along the river Rhine, a scenic route. You will have to decide which is the better one for your family. The taxi from the main station in Essen to our house costs about 10 Euros.
You can always rent a car. Driving from Frankfurt Airport will take about 2.5 hours. It can be fun, if you enjoy the kind of driving that Germans do on the Autobahn. Some guests from other countries find it rather suicidal.
Taking a car vs. public transport in the Rhein-Ruhr area
Public transport is well developed in our area, and you can go everywhere quite easily. Especially with all timetables online, this is much easier than it used to be. On the other hand, sometimes it can be a drag to shift children from one train to the other, and driving a car may be more comfortable.
In the end, you have to decide yourself what is best for you and your children. Travelling on public transport is sometimes more interesting, and nobody has to concentrate on driving. With a car, it is easier to transport all the stuff that you sometimes need to keep the children happy.

More travel info about Essen: Essen is situated in the center of the Ruhr Area in North Rhine-Westphalia. Located on the Ruhr River, its population of approximately 580,000 (2008) makes it the 7th- or 8th-largest city in Germany. The city was appointed by the EU as the European Capital of Culture for 2010 on behalf of the whole Ruhr Area. Formerly one of Germany's most important coal and steel centers and historically linked to the centuries-old Krupp Iron Works, the city has developed a strong tertiary sector of industry and (sometimes together with nearby Duesseldorf) claims to be the desk of the Ruhr area. It is home to 13 of the 100 largest German corporations and is seat to several of the region's authorities.
