IowaExactly what we wanted! Private, great location, all the comfort
Left on 08/20/2011 for a stay in August 2011
This cabin could not have been more perfect for us. The location, the price, the amenities - all exactly what we were hoping for on our second trip back to Estes Park in 11 years.
The house is perched halfway up Prospect Mtn, and has total privacy with pine trees surrounding it just enough to block out the neighbors (of which there are a few, but none right by you) and yet provide gorgeous views of the mountains. The deck is where we spent most of our time when we were home, either eating outside or relaxing in the hot tub.
The mountain lion warning signs near the house provided a bit of excitement but we did not see any actual animals, to my husband's dismay. If you have kids, it is something to be watchful of, but the area is well-populated so I believe the lions are pretty rare. We could walk down into town at the base of our mountain in about 5 minutes, which was a great way to both save on the hassles of parking (which can be very frustrating in high season) and work off the calories of dinner when we hiked back up. Very steep!!
One word of advice - try to arrive in the daylight, as this house is hard to find, located down a very steep gravel road and then up another steep gravel drive. We saw it from the road as we sailed by. Would be almost impossible to find in the dark, I assume. Trust your GPS!
Inside, it is cozy and well-furnished. It's quite a few levels above the classic CO knotty pine cabin (which is also fun but not what I wanted this time), with furnishings that I'd be happy to have in my home. Huge bed with its own set of steps to get into! Kitchen was very well equipped; bathroom has a super roomy shower; comfy living room furniture.
It was very nice to work directly with the owner instead of a generic company. I handled everything via phone or email with Linda, and really appreciate the personal touch that provides. Although she was on vacation herself the week we were out there, she still gave me her cell to use in case we needed anything at all.
I know you can get more expensive places in Estes - but I'm not sure why you'd need to. While the house isn't brand new, it has been renovated nicely and truly is perfectly located. We were more than happy to save our money and use it for fun stuff instead. -

The location here alone would sell the place - perfect view of the mountains from the living room, deck, and hot tub on the deck - the first night of our arrival we turned off all the lights and watched the thunderstorm show from the comfy living rooms chairs and sofa. 1 BR and TV / seating area on each floor so 2 couples can each have a little bit of privacy, just a few minutes from the main street but feels much further away on the side of the hill opposite the town. Kitchen and laundry areas both well appointed. As noted in other reviews the lack of air con on sunny days is noticeable in the main room from about 1-6pm, although the lower floor stays cooler, and the dirt road and driveway are a bit rough and tricky after precipitation, but that still couldn't keep us from giving the spot the top rating. And on top of it all the owners are very helpful and friendly.

My husband and I really enjoyed our week long stay at Estes Mountain Views. It is a great place to rest and vacation! The house is cozy and very tastefully decorated. It's close to downtown, yet far enough away, that you seem to have your own private "piece" of Prospect Mountain. Another appealing bonus is its proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park. Our first visit to Colorado was certainly top-notch, thanks to the memorable stay we had at Mountain Views. Indeed, we hope to be back!

We were pleased to be able to meet the owners when we first arrived. The home was sparkling clean, and very comfortable...just right for a mountain cabin! We loved the fact that there was a king bed, and also that there was a very functional kitchen. The deck, though, is the best! Just watching the shadows change as they moved across the mountain was lovely--not to mention the hummingbirds! The house is very near downtown Estes Park, so it was quite a surprise to us to find that we had a lot of wildlife traffic! Deer visited each day, and we're still not sure if the sign warning about mountain lions above the cabin was for real or a joke, but we decided not to test it and didn't go up there! This is a nice home in a fabulous location with lots of conveniences. Our only slight complaint was that it doesn't have air conditioning and the living room faces west, so it does get pretty warm in the afternoon (actually, hot) but as soon as the sun goes down the whole house fan makes it very comfortable by evening. We'd definitely stay there again.

Gadsden, AlabamaBetter than we expected!
Left on 11/17/2009 for a stay in September 2009
It was much more than we expected. The home was decorated just to suite the mountain setting. It was perfect for two couples with the privacy of the two living areas and would be great if you were traveling with kids that needed their space. The view from the deck was wonderful and we enjoyed breakfast there every morning. A little warm to use the hot tub or fireplace but would have been a nice amenity if it had been cooler. The walk to town was a little much for some in our group but we had a vehicle. Spent everyday in the mountains...the aspens were breathtaking. Hope to return in the future.
