Description from the owner
Passareiro is a truly beautiful and much loved historic home with an authentic feel of times gone by.
Elegant and informal, this large whitewashed home extends over one level, with long vine-shaded terraces running along the length of the bedrooms and living areas. Antiques and rustic pieces are scattered throughout, adding to the rich sense of character and history of the house. There are lovely gardens and an outdoor dining area to totally relax in well as a spacious living room, dining room (both with giant fireplaces) games room and study inside.

Additional Location Information
GREAT LOCATION - Remote yet totally acessible
Passareiro is within easy reach of Lisbon (about 1hr), Sintra and the coast by motorway so you can easily get do a day trip and have the best of both worlds! You will need to rent a car to get around and explore the area, although most find their good intentions evaporate once they get near the pool!
There is plenty to do in the area. The Alentejo is extremely beautiful and you will be in the heart of its stunning landscapes and rural pace of life. Nearby is the famous town of Evora - a Unesco World Heritage jewel, with a splendid Roman temple and Roman remains which can be seen throughout the whitewashed cobbled streets. There is also a range of great restaurants and wineries in town as well as closer to home.
You will also be welcome to walk on the estate and soak in the beautiful scenery of ancient cork forests and vineyards. There are some great spots for picnics and if you are lucky you might spot eagles and other bird life. We are located within a Natura 2000 area for natural biodiversity and wildlife and actively participate in local conservation schemes.
EXCELLENT SERVICE - self catering at its best - and you can cheat if you want to!
Most of our guests book Passareiro on a self catering basis, but it's worth remembering that even as such, we offer a very high level of service. As described below, maid service is included in your stay but in fact you can have as much service as you like.
Sandra our housekeeper will be there every (bar Sundays) to do a general tidy up throughout the house and pool, replenish the wood (or coal for the bbq in summer) and make your bed made for you. She can also be booked for extra hours to help in the kitchen to prepare meals or babysit if you want to go out.
For those who really don't want to lift a finger, we work with a great private chef who can be booked for you during your stay, or to arrange a special meal. He can also give informal cooking classes in the kitchen for those who are interested.
Simple home cooked meals on arrival are also available, arranged in advance.

LondonAn oasis in the alentejo
Left on 10/01/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We had a wonderful week staying at Passareiro. It's exactly the type of calm and quiet retreat we wanted to destress after a long year's work. It's also a short stop to beautiful town of Evora for day-tripping if you can drag yourself from the pool!

LondonDelightful

There is no point in going on holiday if you are less comfortable than at home. Wonderfully, a stay at Passareiro feels like being at home... but better. There is space for everything inside and out - the lovely eating area looking out over the vines; the glorious swimming pool with shade for the babies and plenty of loungers for the sun-worshippers; the enormous dining table, if you can bear to eat inside; the cosy sitting room for relaxing with a book (or an ipad!); gorgeous bedrooms with plenty of storage to unpack ; enough bathrooms for everyone to wallow. Then there are the large, comfortable beds, that get made for you each morning; the fabulous produce available to make wonderful meals; stunning countryside that you can explore on foot within the estate...
The experience at Passareiro is a rare and joyous thing. A beautiful house and farm in which to relax and soak up the good things in life - family, friends, food, drink, sun. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

A truly wonderful break - a rare treat these days to find somewhere where time seems to stop still. Great to find the finishing touches that are so often overlooked- fluffy towels and really comfortable beds. We will return!

DubaiSummer Holiday in alentejo
Left on 08/18/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed a week at this house in July/August 2012 and in fact extended our stay so reluctant were we to leave. The photos don't lie. This is a lovely house and a perfect location; set in beautiful countryside, but very close to Lisbon and lots of pretty villages and towns. We were a party of 9 which included 4 children and an elderly relative and it appealed to all. The house is really nicely renovated with all modern conveniences and very good internet access. We spent a vast amount of time over lazy dinners outside or at the pool which is one of the best settings for a pool I have seen. The house is light and airy and the bedrooms are spacious with great bathrooms. We all slept so well and the weather was fantastic. Wonderful chill-out territory. I recommend it.

LondonStunning Simplicity
Left on 06/17/2012 for a stay in July 2011
Ten of us, all 30 somethings, stayed at Passareiro for a week in early august 2011 and absolutely loved it. It is so beautifully and simply decorated, with a fabulous layout for being both inside and out of the herdade. Ideally situated in the middle of nowhere, we could make as much noise as we wanted, late into the night - luckily the farm staff were understanding! Having a maid every day is brilliant and definitely needed for so many people. The owners were immensely helpful in the run up and during our stay - there are cultural wonders like Monsaraz nearby which we would never have known about, but also the local go karting track just 10 minutes down the road - so activities for everyone! Thank you to the Mollets for keeping to the traditional simplicity of the land and the region - we will definitely come back!
