Kurrawong offers a unique getaway in a quiet country lane on 3 acres of open grass and shady tree areas. There is plenty of space to kick a football, play cricket, sit under a lychee tree, or stay cool by the pool. Federal is the centre of the Byron Bay hinterland with the Federal Store providing a post office, groceries, bottle shop, newspapers and eftpos with the Federal Domo Cafe providing fabulous japanese cuisine. Across from the store is the park with tennis court, playground and skate park.

My home is open plan with exotic timber walls and floors, country style kitchen flows into lounge area with plasma tv/dvd and ipod speaker...s that can be set up outside on deck. Music/dining room has a bar area and there are another two bathrooms adjacent to this section. The open plan of the house flows out onto the covered verandahs to the pool and bbq entertainment decks.

The master bedroom with queen bed and ensuite opens onto a large deck thru stained glass doors. Second bedroom with queen bed has own ensuite and a third bedroom has two double bed and two single beds are in a fourth room The single beds can be moved from room to room if needed.

Attached to the main home is a large studio with queen size bed and sofa bed, kitchen, bathroom, airconditioner, tv/dvd. Between the house and the studio is a breezeway deck with cane lounges - a perfect area for the summer breezes and to enjoy the tropical garden.

A mixture of country and contemporary furniture, the house has a relaxing environment. Sleeps 10+ people with a cot if required. The location is 20 minutes from Byron Bay, 10 minutes from other scenic villages and one minute from the Federal Village. In close proximity are national parks, rainforests, waterfalls, local markets, surf beaches, rivers and creeks. This is one of the world's most beautiful environments.

Additional Location Information

Kurrawong is situated on a country lane 1km from the village of Federal, which has a general store, cafe and handmade timber furniture shop. Opposite the store is the village park with playground, skatepark and tennis court. To find Kurrawong driving south towards Eureka from Federal Village 1km, turn right into Blackbean Lane, then right into Teak Road, drive into first driveway on the lefthand side.

  In preparation for a significant birthday celebration with close friends for a week, including NYE we planned ahead and 6 months before did a site reece on holiday home rentals in and around Byron, mostly in the hinterland to ensure we booked exactly what we wanted. After much research, we identified and then inspected 5 houses and the last place we visited was the Byron Bay Hinterland Farmhouse, owner by Thelma. Well it was perfect, as it had 5 bathrooms, 5 equally sized bedrooms (including the 1 bedroom unit), lots of outdoor and indoor entertainment space, a pool, great herb garden, user friendly kitchen & BBQ. Thelma was inviting and accommodating and was always available on email to provide us with local info re transport, groceries, ice, basically all our needs. We all had a wonderful time and there were lots of areas for individuals to read a book on the balcony alone, whilst the group cooked up a BBQ feast. A good location also, close to Byron and Lismore, but out of the hectic holiday traffic.

  Fantastic Family Getaway!

  My family and I had a memorable 10 day stay in this wonderful home in January. Thelma's home was beautifully presented and we felt extremely relaxed and comfortable there. The fridge was even stocked with the basics so that we didnt have to go out and shop straight away!
  The house is large and the kids all had their own space and having 5 bathrooms was a treat! We each had one to ourselves! The house is surrounded by decks and we enjoyed sitting & reading on the daybeds outside. The pool was a real hit with the kids and the gardens surrounding it are lush and tropical. A real oasis!
  The home is situated in Byron Bay's hinterland, just a short drive from the village of Federal. Here we found a little shop which is a general store/post office and liqour shop all in one. Attached to this is a cafe which came in handy for lunch and was even open some nights during the week. There is also a tennis court and childrens playground across the road. Its about a 15 minute drive to Byron Bay's white sandy beaches.
  Other than a day trip here and there we actually stayed the majority of our time at the home. The swimming pool definately got a work out!
  All in all, our holiday was exceptional and we couldnt have wanted for more. Thelma catered for all our needs and we cant wait to come back and enjoy it all again sometime.
