Great weekend with friends and family

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My friends and I had a wonderful time at "Mixed Doubles." Affordable, roomy, fun and hidden away. Great views of the lake, steps away from the beach and a fantastic tennis court. I hope to come back and would recommend "Mixed Doubles" to anyone looking for relaxing weekend.

      A Mixed Bag Rental

Left on 08/01/2012 for a stay in July 2012

The stay was nice. The house was great and had an excellent layout. All the bedrooms were a good size an none too small with plenty of beds. The beds however were very firm and not easy to sleep on along with the furniture being uncomfortable. The lounging part was rough since nothing was really comfortable to lounge on. The house was very clean and well maintained except for the screened porch which was large and very nice. The only drawback was that the screens had holes and were ripped in areas so at night the bugs would just swarm us and it was not pleasant. The beach was nice and the walk was not bad down the back of the house. There is absolutely no cell phone service. We had three major cell companies being used in the house and no one got service unless you walked down the street. There is no wireless internet either which is not good. Only one ethernet hard plug. For the money we paid I think we would get the little extra luxuries and a little more attention to the details. Also, the beach is nice however when you go to get into the water it is nothing but large rocks and shells. We had to buy water shoes just to get into the water and the rocks did not clear for at least 30 ft. till you find sand. No good with little ones.

      Great location, great service!

Left on 07/05/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We had a wonderful experience at the Mixed Doubles property! We had several tennis players in the group who took advantage of the court and of course, we all took advantage of the beach! Overall, it's a great, clean property.Perfect for a medium-sized group and kids. A few things to keep in mind - there is absolutley no cell phone service at or near the home (which could be a good thing). The pathway to the beach could use some cleaning up as well - a lot of shrubs there. Also the book of restaurant and delivery recommendations needs to be updated - many of the places recommended there have completely new menus or don't deliver to the house.

Thanks for the review!! Glad you loved the tennis court and the beach--what great amenities to have in a vacation home! Unfortunately, we cannot do anything about the spotty cell phone service... small price to pay for a little slice of paradise, huh? :)

As far as the restaurant guide, we will definitely get those updated--so sorry they were not up to date for you. Do you have vacation plans for 2013 yet, because we'd love to have you back!

      Private property stay out!

Left on 06/16/2012 for a stay in June 2012

      Boundary issues at beachfront.
It seems a public access dumps into the same 50 feet belonging to the rental. Neighbors to south very touchy about it. Signs every where. Very unwelcoming.still we enjoyed our time in this rustic lake house. Upside was it is the beach! Great views! Comfortable and everything was there in the kitchen. Downside was there were Lots of Ticks and Mouse droppings in basement

Not a good rental- Ticks, unprivate beach and not highly maintai

Left on 06/15/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We understand ticks are a reality in the wilderness and we camp and stay in rustic accomodations often, but we found ticks in our hair, on our legs, in the beds and in the spiderwebs in this cabin, multiple times over three days.

Additionally, the beach is not at all private, and large groups of people plopped down in front of the water multiple days through the public access right next door. Maybe it's technically private, but the people in the community will tell you it isn't and who wants to spend their days policing the beach and trying to get a good spot on the water.

We did like the layout of the house, especially the side porch, which offers a nice getaway and a decent lake view, but the property in general is overgrown and specifically the area around the tennis court is so thick with brush that losing balls is a frequent event.

The path to the beach is overgrown as well, and the steps from the screened porch are a bit suspect.

Wanted to like this place, but in the end, it just wasn't a good rental experience.

Thanks for taking the time to provide us with some great feedback, Chris. We at Lakeshore Lodging want to apologize again for your negative experience with us at Mixed Doubles. I'm happy to let you know that we took your feedback to heart and made some great changes for the 2013 season.

Upon your departure, the home was added to the Orkin pest control management system which took care of the tick problem right away. Again, I apologize that the ticks were a problem for you but they should not be moving forward.

We also received some great news this offseason concerning the 'private beach problems' you experienced during your stay. The local Civic Court recently released this statement: 'The 121st road end right of way may be used only for access to and from Lake Michigan. It's use as a beach or for any other purposes is prohibited.' This ruling--now enforced by local officials--should give our guests all of the room they need down on the beach!

Ultimately, this home has had some positive changes since your stay and we'd love for you to take us up on the gift card we issued you to stay with us again this summer! Again, thanks for the feedback and we hope to see you again soon!

Great big house with a great view!

Left on 06/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012

While the directions to the home were a bit tricky we were pleased once we arrived and saw the view and layout of the house. It would be great for several families or lots of friends as there is room to spread out inside and out. The private beach is wonderful too. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of space for sit down dinners. Each and every bed was comfortable. While the house decor was a bit outdated, the space and view compensated!

      Wonderful vacation stay!

Left on 04/22/2012 for a stay in August 2010

We had a wonderful family vacation, with kids and grandkids. The home was clean, spacious and well worth the money. It was a short walk to the beach through a sandy path. Unfortunaely this was not handicap accessible and we were not be able to take a wheelchair up and down the path either. The huge screened in porch was wonderful place to have your morning coffee with the early risers. There is little cell phone coverage there (but a phone was avalible), which was only a problem to those who had to use the cell phone; they walked down the drive. We would definately stay there again!!!
