Left on 04/29/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Five of us stayed in the cabin for a weekend. It was very well stocked. We cooked 3 meals there and enjoyed time out on the porch. We all commented how nice the cabin was and that we would love to come back for a relaxing weekend.

Beautiful view! The cabin was spotless and had all the conveniences you could hope for. Only disappointment was the linens were not the Egyptian cotton that was advertised. We actually wondered if a previous renter had swapped them, since everything else was top notch. Best tip is to bring all food, etc with you as there are no stores of any kind close by.

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Cliffside and Leatherwood is where we spent a month this summer. Loved it! The views were spectacular. Very private but only about two miles to the entrance. The cabin was clean, up to date, and roomy. The staff at Leatherwood were extremely friendly and helpful. The deer and wild turkeys are everywhere every day!! Loved seeing the horses pass by during the day as one of the many trails was nearby. The pool was cold but very clean and refreshing! We fished in one of the ponds and caught many blue gills! It was a great time and we are returning! We even looked at property and might buy there! Loved our vacation there!!!

Chapel Hilldisappointed
Left on 11/14/2011 for a stay in October 2011
In the past we ave always had an enjoyable visit at Cliffside but during our stay we had 2 problems. One problem was a decrease in water pressure on arrival to the unit. This problem resolved the next day, but there was a wedding party at the house before our stay and they brought the water pressure down. The leatherwood staff did offer another cabin to move into but it did not have the coziness of Cliffside. The second probem was the fireplace did not work. The maintance person came and looked at it but it still did not work after his visit. We were uncomforatable having someone work on it while we were out of the cabin so it was never fixed during our stay. The nights were cold and we would have appreciated the use of a fireplace. The riding was excellent and we were glad to see the dining room open.
Response from Leatherwood Rentals, Inc. - 11/21/2011
Manager
We are very sorry these two issues came about during your stay at Cliffside. Sometimes mechanical failures are unavoidable and present themselves without warning. For that reason our maintenance staff works 7 days a week and is available 24 hours a day. The gas log fireplace has been fixed and is now working properly at Cliffside. There were no occupancy violations at Cliffside the week before your visit. We monitor occupancy levels to ensure our wells do not come under stress and are therefore unsure what caused the temporary lack of water pressure during your stay.

Chapel Hill, NCA vacation getaway at the top of the world!
Left on 11/05/2011 for a stay in October 2011
"Cliffside" is by far the finest place to stay and enjoy Leatherwood Estates! I have stayed at others and now that I know my way around the development better, this is the best place I have ever stayed!
It is virtually at the top of the world with a magnificent view of the mountains. It is private and beautiful. The road to the development ends close by which gave us access to the trails and woods uninvolved with traffic (which is virtually nonexistent anyway) and we so very much enjoyed the privacy and the ability to walk with our dogs over the top of the mountain in all directions.
The home was perfectly appointed and designed to enjoy views from all the living areas and the accommodations were comfortable and beautiful. The hot tub was wonderful and the deck living for cooking and eating was peaceful, private and serene.
Thank you for opening this home for our enjoyment and I personally will only want to stay here whenever I return to Leatherwood, which will be often. The support staff was the best ever and the friendliness and welcomeness that was bestowed upon us was better than anyplace I have ever stayed like this.
The horseback riding was spectacular with the many varied trails and scenes and the very enjoyable and informative trail guide, Trevor.
Thank you again for a magnificent getaway from the real world. We definitely did not want to leave. -

The Cabin was beautiful and well decorated. The view from the back porch was gorgeous. There are more cabins in the area than are shown on the Leatherwood map. But, while we were there, we rarely saw anyone else. I was impressed by the number of well-kept hiking trails. If you plan to bake, bring your own baking sheet/pan (the one there is in poor condition). Checking in and out was easy and the staff was very courteous.

Hello and thank so much for the wonderful comments about Cliffside! We think it is a very special place as well. Also, thanks for the comment about the baking sheet - this is something that we will take care of right away and replace with a new one.
We hope to have you back again very soon!

The location of the house on the mountain was perfect! we came in anticipation of snow and we got what we wanted! The view was awesome, The layout of the house is very good and would work well for two couples. The house was well equiped with enterainment (unfortunately the internet was not working during our stay). You have to make your own beds (linens provided),would have preferred that that the beds had already been made. Also felt there should have been more bath towels and washcloths. These are the only "negative" things about our stay and they are not anything that would keep me from coming back! *You definately want to careful on the staircase! It is very steep and on the last day I fell down...might want to consider a runner! Everybody @ Leatherwood was extremely pleasant to work with. Love it! We will be going back to Leatherwood and plan to stay @ Cliffside again.

We hiked, went horse back riding and fishing and most of all just relaxed. Great view with sunset. Highly recommend this cabin for someone that wants to getaway from a hectic life. Take the 2 hour trail ride, you won't regret it.

Left on 08/06/2010 for a stay in June 2010
My wife, 6-year-old daughter, and I stayed here for a quick getaway in June. What a perfect "mountain" to unwind on. We loved the private-access code gate coming in. We loved seeing the deer moseying about along the roads at night. The cabin provided a wonderful view of the distant mountains (from the hot tub, too!) and was well-stocked. At night we turned on the outside deck lights and my daughter and I were swamped with huge, magnificent moths. She loved it! We ate breakfast at the Saddleback both mornings, great food, excellent service/waitress! If your family is looking to get back to nature, unwind in pastoral/wooded surroundings, ogle crawdads in a creek then jump to the playground then the relaxing pool all adjacent to one another, and ride horses, this is the spot for you. We had a great stay and will most definitely return! Highly recommended!

Left on 07/29/2010 for a stay in June 2010
Our first impression when we arrived was wow! It only got better as we looked around and saw the house and the view. Fabulous place for a couple or family who wants to escape. "Happy Hour" (burgers, beer, and wine) was our choice for dinner the night we arrived: yummy! We cooked then ate breakfast on the deck the next morning and in the evening relaxed in the hot tub. The morning we left we ate a delicious breakfast at the onsite restaurant (limited meal service, but delightful hostess and chef). The drive up to the cabin is a long and winding road. If you want to ride horses or swim in the pool etc. that might be bothersome, but our goal was to stay put. The next time we visit, we will bring steaks to grill for dinner. There are no grocery stores that we found that are closer than 20 minutes, restaurant choices are limited to "Happy Hour (may or may not be availabe) or a 20+ minute drive. For us, (2 older adults and my parents) it was exactly what we had hoped it would be!! We didn't want to leave! There are things to do and see 30 min - 1 hour away, but that wasn't our intent.

Apex, NCKim's Wedding Weekend
Left on 06/09/2010 for a stay in June 2010
The cabin was beautiful and very clean. However, online, it stated that there was one king-sized bed and one queen-sized bed. The queen-sized bed actually seemed to be the size of a double. Also, it would have been nice to have extra towels. In the upstairs bathroom, there was a sign that said, "Towels and candles for decoration only. Please do not use." Because there were multiple towels in the bathroom, we weren't sure which were the "decoration" towels, so that was a bit confusing. Overall, though, we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Cliffside.
Response from Leatherwood Rentals, Inc. - 06/10/2010

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Cliffside - it is such a wonderful cabin. We are sorry about the confusing "Decoration Towels" and agree with your comment. They have been taken out of the Master Bathroom upstairs. The bed in the downstairs bedroom is indeed a queen bed - we've checked it and double checked it to make sure.
Thank you for your kind comments - we hope to have you back to Leatherwood Mountains again soon!

This trip was a surprise 25th wedding anniversary present for my wife. The staff at Leatherwood especially Bethany did an outstanding job of helping me out from the first phone call until we left. This was a weekend my wife and I will never forget. This is an awesome vacation spot. Even if your not into horses just the location, homes and everything about leatherwood is awesome. This was our first trip to Leatherwood and will not be our last. We would love to take the kids up during the summer and make a family vacation out of it. Very peacefull. We only saw one car go by our cabin the entire weekend. Privacy at its best. If we could move today to Leatherwood life would be awesome. Everything from A-Z is top notch. Thank you Leatherwood for everything.

We have been to Leatherwoods many times in the past and have stayed in several different homes. The Cliffside home is very cozy, comfortable and romantic. It actually snowed 1 day during our stay and it was beautiful. The view of the mountains was fantastic. The house had everything we needed. We BBQ'd a couple of days. The house is located in the right spot with views and is equipped with everything you need. Love the deer feeding on the grounds daily as you drive in and out of Leatherwood. Would definitely recommend to all our family and friends. Thank you for a wonderful time.

We stayed in the Cliffside for a week in August, and had an incredible time. The view was spectacular, and the house was prepared in great order when we arrived. We enjoyed using the barbeque and the jacuzzi, and the entire cabin was beautiful. The great thing about Leatherwood is that you can be extremely active by horseback riding, canoeing, swimming, and playing tennis (plus we are runners and loved the roads through the development); you can enjoy nearby sightseeing (we didn't make it to Grandfather Mtn, but went to Blowing Rock twice); or you can just lounge around and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, the beauty of the area, and the chance to get away from it all but with all the comforts still provided. We will return for sure!

Very nise 2 br cottage type setup. Spacious and comfortable for a couple. Incredible view. Only slight downside is that the trail riding facility is "next door" (not all that close) which results in occasional loud conversational noise and some horse traffic.

Thank you for your review of Cliffside Cabin. We love this home!! It is such a great retreat that gets many repeat rentals! I am curious about what Trail Riding Facility that your speaking of. The Equine Center is about 3 miles from Cliffside. There is a private home a few doors down that has a barn with it. They may have had horses at their home during your stay. This house is not on our rental program & the owners visit with their horses from time to time. We look forward to your next visit to Leatherwood!!

Our visit to Leatherwood was way too short. My husband and I had the opportunity to "get away" while our children were at camp. We arrived a bit later than we thought, so I called to find our what we would need to do for late arrival. Bethany answered the phone and told me everything to expect, but when we got there (late) she was still there waiting for us, we thought that was very kind of her. She gave us a map of the property and good directions to our cabin. When we walked through the front door, we felt right at home, we never even stopped, we went straight out
the back to take in the beautiful view from the deck. We wished we would have brought the binoculars. The home was absolutely top notch. We grilled out both nights and enjoyed a long soak in the hot tub. It was so peaceful and relaxing, we didn't want to leave. The only thing I would suggest would be to offer beach towels for hot tub use, but we managed to get by.
We went down the mountain and came out on the one way road, anyway, almost at the bottom, we saw an old family cemetary (1877, maybe). We thought it was in such a peaceful spot.
We are already planning our next trip, maybe in the fall, but if we don't make it then, we will surely be there when the kids all go to camp again next summer.

The view was wonderful. The cabin was clean and
comfortable. We really enjoyed the Hot tub. It
was nice to lay in it every night and watch the
stars. There is no light pollution at all up
there. My mother has a lung disorder, so it was
so much easier for her to breathe, because the
cabin is up on the side of the mountain.

Left on 02/23/2009 for a stay in January 2009
This was our 3rd trip to Leatherwood, our second time at Cliffside. I have never been disappointed.
The house has all the comforts of home plus and incredible view while sitting in the outside hot tub. We were fortunate enough to see a bit of snowfall while we were there.
The gourmet coffee and wine were a treat as well as the Wii game system in the living room. There was no lack of movies, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
We hiked trails and were able to see several turkey and deer whle walking.
I would advise bringing most of your food with you, the nearest grocery store is more than 20 miles away..and once you get to Cliffside, you don't want to leave.
I wish the dinner lodge had been open, but I understand the winter crowd is slim. The only thing that I can think of to improve upon is the tenants taking their trash to the bins upon leaving. In a truck, this is not a problem, but a car or SUV, it can be unpleasant after a few days worth of garbage has accumulated..
Go and make your reservations today!!
