Great rental with attention to detail. We brought food for the weekend and did not need a thing to make meals. Excellent rental information about the house and movie selection. Service was excellent. We had an issue with the coffee pot and the staff brought one to the door. I recommend Bear Necessities, it has so much more.

BaltimorePerfect anniversary get-a-way!
Left on 12/01/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My husband and I got hitched at Leatherwood in 2007 and recently returned for our 4th anniversary. It was our first time back since our wedding & it was such a perfect weekend! The house - Bear Necessities - was home to a beautiful view of the mountains, was stocked with every possible amenity you'd want and the porch & hot tub were perfect venues for relaxation with a cup of coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine at night.
It's clear that the homeowners & Leatherwood staff take great care in the maintenance and upkeep of the house. It was in beautiful condition, spotless, and little details were remembered to make sure our stay was comfortable.
We were also able to catch up with some of the Leatherwood staff that helped us organize our wedding - they were friendly, helpful and just fun to chat with.
We'll definitely be back! Thank you for a fabulous weekend! -

Myrtle Beach, SCPeaceful Experience!
Left on 06/22/2011 for a stay in May 2011
This home has an incredibly well thought-out kitchen, with everything you need to cook! The beds were comfortable, and you could lie on the one upstairs and enjoy the view of the mountains. Two concerns: the showers dripped and a sun-cover over the hot tub is needed. Otherwise, we were thrilled! Be ready for the call of a turkey to be the only disrupting sound for the whole day!

Left on 04/27/2011 for a stay in April 2011
It has been one of the best places we've ever been. The feel, the look and the atmosphere of this cabin was great. Also the equipment was very very good. We missed nothing. Hm, except maybe a bathrobe. Climbing out the hot pool in an april night was a little freezing.
We will go to Bear Necessities every time and we are sure, we will return. We tell all our friends about this great place.

Very nice from booking to checkout and everything in between. I found you online and contacted the office to inquire about horse riding availability. The representative assisted me with booking horse riding as well as the house I wanted to rent. The house was very clean and everything, and I do mean everything was in working order. The grill started right up, the hot tub was pre-heated (nice surprise) and the view was excellent especially at sunrise. The horseback riding was a good experience as well, we had a couple brand new riders and this was no problem our guide was very helpful and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and look forward to returning. Thanks for making that hard earned vacation time worthwhile. Excellent experience from beginning to end.

This house is ideal for a couple wanting a quiet romantic getaway. The fully equipped kitchen makes cooking a pleasure and the small open layout of the house creates a cozy atmosphere. The huge DVD collection and WiFi make rainy day enjoyable and the hot tub is a great addition.

We visited Leatherwood/Bear Necessities while in the area to attend a friend's wedding. Our stay at Bear Necessities was wonderful. We spent our days on the screened porch and most of our nights on the open deck. We didn't leave the cabin for 3 days. What a great break from the rat race.

Left on 08/01/2010 for a stay in July 2010
This was our 4th time renting a Leatherwood cabin and Bear Necessities far exceeded our expectations. There was nothing lacking in this cozy, comfortable well equipped home. We truly hated to leave. Ate all our meals on the screened-in porch to enjoy the beautiful view. Nothing could beat watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee, listening to the woodpeckers and other wildlife. Already looking to fit in another visit this fall.

Left on 09/16/2009 for a stay in September 2009
This cabin is very well-built and immaculate. The decor is appropriate with a rustic/bear/horse theme. All of the amenities are there- high speed wireless internet access, a gourmet kitchen, big screen TV with Direct TV service, hot tub, comfortable and good quality furniture. "Bear Necessities" is 4.5 miles off the main road, and in 48 hours we only saw two cars pass by. The scenery is astounding. This was the most relaxing two day stay we've ever experienced. We felt as though we were a million miles from civilization but were able to keep up with home and work and the outside world with our cell phones, laptop, and the TV. We can't say enough about this place. The experience exceeded our hopes and expectations.

Left on 09/11/2009 for a stay in August 2009
Our short stay was a wonderful vacation experience, a little hot but not as bad as South Georgia. Me, being a horse lover, made Leatherwood that much more special. The cabin was comfortable and beautiful, the food in the restaurant great and all the people we met so helpful and friendly. Trevor was very nice and showed my husband and I some beautiful properties. Thanks for a wonderful mini-vacation at Leatherwood. We intend to return for a longer stay soon.

Left on 08/07/2009 for a stay in July 2009
If you want a truly beautiful cabin, exceptionally clean and well-designed, this
is the place for you. Great for one or maybe two couples, or a small family with
an older child (the stairs are too steep for little ones). Bear Necessities has an
awesome DVD library, two very comfortable, new King beds, and a great
kitchen with a table for four. This cabin is high up on the mountain and very
secluded. The hot tub is well-protected (and nicely shaded in the summer), the
gas grill is high quality, and the porch swing (for two) is very comfortable. Very
nicely landscaped and maintained. -

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The serenity experienced was something we will never forget. The cabin was the perfect size for our family of three. The decor was fresh and new. The kitchen had everything we needed to stay in and enjoy mountain view meals. The office staff were exceptionally friendly as were the stable personnel. The distance from the Blue Ridge Parkway was quite a drive away but if you are into staying in and relaxing, this is the perfect place.

Great cabin - very private, peaceful and relaxing. The kitchen has EVERYTHING that you need to cook, and being so far up in the resort, I recommend bringing food and drinks while you are there, so you don't ever have to leave. The views are amazing and the outdoor hot tub was great. The cabin in beautiful and the location at the resort is fabulous. I don't think you could find a better place in the mountains.
