A UK BBC TV and radio presenter reports of her holidays at La Bergerie in a UK national magazine: "Perched high above the lush valleys of the Lot river lies Le Bouyssou, a gite so lovely that I almost don't want to tell you about it.

The hilltop breeze charms the surface of the pool, the verbenas sway, a swallowtail butterfly wafts through. Everyone relaxes. We have visited with the same friends both years and one of the daily highlights is to eat on the terrace after the kids have gone to bed, looking at the starry, starry night and talking . . ."

Guests so far have described their stay at La Bergerie as 'a dream holiday', 'parad...ise' (from a celebrity!), 'best holiday ever' and a prestigious guide book (Alastair Sawday) have commented that 'only wild horses would drag you away' . . . All of our guests so far have already booked again or have vowed to return. Some have admitted that they may not tell anyone else about La Bergerie now that they themselves have discovered it so that they can keep it for themselves! However, we feel that those seeking a perfect and beautiful place to stay might want to share the delight, so read on . . . .

La Bergerie is a stone barn conversion in the tranquil and beautifully landscaped grounds of Le Bouyssou, offering spacious quality accommodation, beautiful interiors, luxurious linens and sumptuous beds, private terraces and gardens with a large exclusive use salt water swimming pool. It is available for holiday rental throughout the year, for self catering holidays, short breaks and bed and breakfast during certain periods.

La Bergerie au Bouyssou is the perfect base for a French holiday; you will experience a true taste of rural France, rich in medieval history, with long hot summers and delightful springs and autumns, a gem in the ring of a glorious area. The property (previously a rural farm, dating from the 1840s) and new to the market, is situated on the border of the Aveyron and Lot department in the south of France, which boasts some of the most spectacular scenery and sites of interest in the whole of the country. The Aveyron itself can offer its visitors ten of the 'Most Beautiful Villages in France', the highest concentration of any department of the country.

La Bergerie, which has three bedrooms and three 'bathrooms', sleeps seven (plus cot if required) is stylish, luxurious and comfortable and offers you all of the facilities required for the perfect holiday. It is located close to our family home, where we are available to help at all times with any requests.

The accommodation features on the ground floor a large well equipped kitchen with washing machine, tumble dryer and dish washing machine, large range style cooker, double sink, large fridge freezer, coffee machine, toaster and all the equipment you would expect in your own home (and more according to some guests!).

The dining room table seats eight comfortably and there is a CD player for your entertainment (with a selection of CD's)

In the sitting room you will find comfortable seating for six adults, a desk with internet access, reading material, maps and guides, a TV with satellite UK free view channels and DVD player with a selection of DVD's, a wood burning stove and French windows leading to a large covered external terrace with wicker rattan furniture, looking out over the pool area and the valley beyond.

On the first floor, Chambre Beatrice, the first double bedroom, features antique furniture and king size bed. It also has an en-suite shower room with hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. The room also has its own private covered terrace. This room can also be entered at (upper) ground level.

Chambre Josephine is the second double bedroom and has a king size bed, antique furniture and en-suite shower room with WC and heated towel rail. The hand basin is a feature within the bedroom itself.

Chambre Madeleine, the third bedroom, has antique furniture with twin beds (which can be converted to a super king size bed). We can also add a small child's bed to this room if required. This chambre is adjacent to the family bathroom.

The family bathroom has a cast iron free standing roll top bath with hand shower attachment, hand basin, a WC and bidet and large heated towel rail.

La Bergerie has its own private garden, large covered south facing sun terrace, covered canopy on the upper level and a BBQ Area. The gardens and grounds to Le Bouyssou are extensive, with large organic vegetable garden, lawn area for games (a hand built wooden pirate ship with sand pit, slide and swings), a secret garden with perfect shade. A 12x6m salt water swimming pool with decking and teak loungers, exclusive to guests. A large car park for 3/4 cars. We are also able to offer eggs from our free range chickens and seasonal produce from the organic garden (when available).

Additional Location Information

The property is situated at the edge of the beautiful and quintessentially 'French' village of Loupiac. It is in it's own surroundings, beautifully landscaped, tranquil and with views of pastures, valleys and woodland. It is a perfect pastoral setting and ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in the peace and beauty of rural France. It is, however, perfectly located to explore some of the South of France's most spectacular scenery and sites of interest.

Out of high season, we are often in a position to offer 'reduced occupancy' rates for parties of less than 6 people, short breaks, flexible changeover days and sometimes rental on a 'bed and breakfast' basis - please send us an email with your requirements and we can confirm price and availability.

  This summer we (family of 4 with 2 young boys) returned to La Bergerie au Bouyssou for the second year in a row, and each time we have been so delighted that we are planning to return again next summer. The property offers absolutely everything one could wish for, and much more, when one wants to spoil themselves on holiday. The pictures do not do the house and surroundings justice, it is so charming it truly has to be seen to be appreciated.
  The decor and furnishings are very tasteful, it is spotlessly clean and meticulously maintained, and equipped with everything and anything one would need, especially when travelling with children (toys, books, dvds, baby equipment etc etc). It is worth mentioning that this house is a true 'labour of love' of 3 years by a lovely English family who converted the barn by themselves and who obviously are very proud of what they have achieved, and so they should be! The house has exclusive access to a beautifully maintained and equipped swimming pool, which is a real bonus. There is also a great little playground and a beautiful vegetable garden.
  In terms of the surrounding areas, the aveyron and the Lot regions have a lot of activities to offer for old and young alike. The highlights for us this year were taking the kids to accro-Liane (tree climing - yes even for a 2 and 5 year old!), Cahors sightseeing and wine tasting, and candle lit dinners and star gazing outside on the terrasse. Last year we also went to various local markets to buy local produce which we then took back and enjoyed at the house.
  The property is situated in a fairly remote rural area and there is a little bit of a drive (10-15 mins) to get to most places, even to purchase fresh pastries in the morning. However, for us, that is just perfect as peace and tranquility is what we are after when taking a break from London.
  Last but not least, the family who runs this gorgeous holiday 'gite' are absolutely fantastic hosts and really go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable, including their daughter Millie (9) who loves to play and spend time with children who come to La Bergerie on holiday. They are also an invaluable source of information on things to see and do in the area. A big thumbs up from us - we have stayed in many hotels and self-catered properties with our children - and this is hand on heart one of the best ones out there!

  My family, which includes two energetic young boys, had a lovely break at La Bergerie. From the moment we arrived everything we could have needed was already thoughtfully provided. The charming hosts were readily available to answer questions and provide their local insight. The house is every person's dream of rural France filled with comfortable furnishings and luxurious details. The kids were greeted with a plentitude of new toys as well as a full stock of books and Dvds. It was hardly necessary since the outdoor space captivated them from the start. The surrounding area had plenty of day trips to offer but our best times were just filling our arms up with produce at the local markets and returning to enjoy the escape. We opt for self catering when possible and this is by far one of our favorites. In summation: artfully prepared and impeccably maintained.
