Portsmouth, United KingdomFantastic!!!
Left on 04/13/2013 for a stay in March 2013
This was, without doubt, the best self catering accommodation I have had the pleasure to stay in. Sam was the perfect holiday home host, available at any time to deal with our requests. The location is ideal if you want peace, quiet, solitude and you're in need of complete rest & relaxation. The log fire was a necessity - we stayed here during the coldest March experienced for a long time - and it did its job; we were incredibly comfortable. The furniture and furnishings are high quality - I cannot fault our stay. I have no hesitations in recommending this property to our friends and family - it was perfect.

PoitiersAttractive property - but inadequate for winter use.
Left on 01/07/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We stayed in the Fleur de Lys apartment which was attractively furnished and in a pleasant location. It was very clean and fairly recently renovated.
We found the property to be inadequately heated for holiday accommodation which was actively marketed to include winter use. Their had been considerable rainfall and one end wall was completely wetted on the interior. The owner has admitted that it will require rendering or extra pointing, hopefully before further occupation. The nightstorage heater/panel heater does not really measure up to "central heating" and the woodburning stove is rather smaller than the dimensions of the lounge & kitchen space requires, even though the outside temperatures were relatively mild for the season.
We were disappointed by the lack of wifi inside the apartment and the reception was too weak in the garden/carpark outside areas. The advertising of wifi had been a real consideration in our choice of holiday accommodation.
For various reasons, we would not consider this " luxury" accommodation, as it is advertised, and this maylead other holidaymakers in their expectations. Overall, We were a little disillusioned by the marketing.Response from Samantha Eden - 02/05/2013

I am disappointed that our guests were not happy with the accommodation, particularly as they seemed thoroughly pleased during the two indepth conversations that were had whilst they were here! I would like to address some issues which are really not accurate and misleading to potential guests- here in France electric heating is the most commonly used form of heating,( our guests live in France and would know this), there is not only an electric storage heater in the lounge, but also a 3kw heater in the bedroom area, and also a 1 kw electric towel rail/heater. I appreciate that not everyone knows about woodburners, but this is a "Villager" cast Iron 9 kw woodburner, this is capable of heating TWICE the area of the whole gite itself, this along with the black steel pipes to the ceiling giving off an extra 10% more heat is more than adequate for the building, although I do appreciate that people feel the cold more than others, but the guest did actually comment on the heat in the building on arrival, and only 2 baskets of wood were requested for the entire week!
The issue of the damp wall was not evident prior to their arrival and we had no idea about it during their stay, this has been addressed , this building has not faced a winter since it's renovation, and the pointing using lime was not adequate for this persistent driving rain- had we been made aware of this during our guests stay, we would have immediately moved them, but nothing was said. WIFI- we have had intermittant problems with the signal at the gite during this winter and have now had a seperate line installed to the gites so that this is no longer a problem- this was explained to our guests on arrival, and I asked them to let me know if they had a problem so that they could access the internet from our grounds- again, never had any complaints when we could do something to help.
I think that our previous reviews and repeat guests more than speak for themselves regarding the luxury of our accommodation, I suggest you look at the review by Melton Doc Aug 29, who stayed in the same accommodation! -

We very much enjoyed our stay here. The accommodation was first class. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. It was a lovely touch having the welcome and breakfast pack although we did not receive the French bread as advertised. We found it a bit chilly in the evenings. We did not receive a basket of logs for the wood burner as advertised, which would have taken the chill off!

Thank you Evelyn and Jim for your kind review, sorry about your baguette-must have been an oversight!
I would have put on some heating for you if you had said, we don't usually put the wood in the gites as a matter of course at that time of year, we ask guests to let us know if they need anything, that way we can explain how to use the woodburner in case people are unfamiliar ( the basket is of course free of charge). Heating is such a personal matter we try to accommodate everyone individually, and are more than happy to put on extra heaters if needed at any time of the year. -

Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012
A last minute booking, taken over the phone, meant no opportunity for advance payments, but this was no problem for the owners.
Upon arrival we were greeted like old friends, and found a kitchen of supplies, (including a bottle of wine).
If you're looking for comfort, solitude and extremely friendly owners then look no further.
Also the surrounding countryside is just superb, ideal for quiet getaway breaks.
Very hard to fault in any respect. -

Left on 09/10/2012 for a stay in July 2012
The accommodation was excellent; the conversion was well done and has resulted in a very comfortable and well appointed flat for two people. Samantha was on hand to greet us and had provided a welcome pack of food and wine. The location is good for most of western Brittany, and convenient for walkers in the National Park and coast.
Contact via e mail was easy, as was payment by bank transfer. -

Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The owners made us very welcome on arrival and a lovely touch was the supply of fresh local breakfast provisions. The apartment was clean, luxurious and beautifully presented. From Loqueffret, access was easy to shopping and local attractions, as well as both lake and forest walks. Driving distance to the coast was reasonable, West, North or South!
Overall an excellent holiday and we would have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation, in fact we intend to return in 2013 -

The apartment was perfect. Beautifully laid out with all you could possibly need. A hot meal on arrival and a bottle of wine. What more could you ask for?
Set in the tranquil surroundings of Finistere, within easy reach of the Crozon Peninsula and Huelgoat with its unusual geological stone caves.
The Edens, couldn't have been better hosts. We almost dog-napped Zeus!

Left on 08/29/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Very easy booking and clear email communications with the owners; electronic payment equally straightforward. We appreciated the clear local driving directions and the flexibility over dates and duration of our stay. We travelled from Dinard airport to the gite in about 2.5 hours.
We stayed in the newest accommodation known as Fleur de Lys. This was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Bright, airy indoor space and private sun trap courtyard garden with table, chairs, loungers and BBQ provided.
The owners were very welcoming and helpful but not at all intrusive. We arrived to a bottle of bubbly in the fridge as well as the welcome pack and breakfast. This was much appreciated after our later than planned arrival.
The location is well outside the village and extremely quiet. However, numerous small towns and villages are easily accessed by very quiet but speedy roads. Being centrally located the gite makes a good base from which to explore in all directions.
We feel that the description of the property is very accurate - not at all oversold. We strongly recommend!

The accomodation was exactly as stated and we received a generous welcome pack upon arrival and were personally greeted by the owners. The owners are very friendly but in no way intrusive; we felt that they were there if we needed them.
We adored the accomodation it was extremely comfortable. We would highly recommend it as a comfortable, "home from home" sort of place to stay.
Set in the amorique National Park in Brittany it is a great base to stay in order to visit the whole of western Brittany and to discover the history, charm and culture of the Bretons. On a practical note there are comprehensive shopping facilities within a 10 minute drive.
We especially enjoyed our visits to the walled towns of Mont St. Michel and Concarneau. The local beaches are very clean with beautiful white sands and clear, clean sea water- it was very lovely to swim in. The Carnac standing stones were amazing and Huelgoat was beautiful beyond belief - these were "must sees" in our opinion!
We were overwhelmed by the variety of crepes, galettes, ice-creams and biscuits available. We enjoyed the local cuisine and the friendliness of the Breton community.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeks break in this lovely part of rural Brittany. Sam, Alan and their lovely family were extremely helpful and informative whilst still keeping a discreet distance. All the extra touches including the welcome food pack, fluffy bath robes, satelite british TV as well as CD and DVD player. Use of bikes and barbecue area all excellent and provided entertainment and comfort for all weather. Superb comfy bed and lovely white bed linen giving a real sense of luxury! I would certainly recommend and will most definitely be staying again. We would also add that Sam and alan's help and advice with regard to purchasing property in France has been invaluable.

Samantha's properties were of a very high standard.
She was always available if you needed help or advise. We stayed in both of the properties during our stay, both were excellent. The location was quiet but, all necessities were with in a short drive. I would have no hesitation in recommending other persons stay in the properties. -

London, United KingdomLovely accomodation in totally peaceful setting
Left on 08/29/2011 for a stay in August 2011
My partner and I (both in our early sixties) recently spent eight nights in this self catering accommodation where we had the first floor apartment. It was spacious and spotlessly clean and the location was excellent for exploring the beautiful countryside in the area. The owners provided a welcome bottle of wine and breakfast provisions (eggs, milk, croissants, orange juice, rolls and butter) enough to last for the week.
We loved the peace and quiet at the property and had our own private outside area which was very pretty. It is close to the small village of Loquefrett and only a short drive to the lovely small town of Huelgoat. There are lots of well marked walks nearby and we were also able to hire bikes and enjoyed cycling the near deserted smaller roads in the area. A'tlthough we didn't spend much time at the coast it is an easy drive to get there and doesn't take long. Owners provided lots of useful information on places to visit. -

Left on 04/26/2011 for a stay in August 2010
Samantha has thought of everything to make this an ideal escape for couples in particular - lovely, huge French bed with nice linen and co-ordinating bedroom furniture, spa bath, robes ... in what must be the largest studio apartment we have ever stayed in. The kitchen area is large enough and well enough equipped to cook a 'proper' meal if you want to, you can curl up on the sofa with a book or DVD, or sit in the garden and watch the ducks and chickens ... it felt special and relaxing at the same time. There are lots of guide books to the local area and we found some lovely walks, restaurants and villages to visit. It was very easy to drive to (we sailed into Roscoff) and we quickly found our way around. Samantha is very welcoming and happy to answer any questions during your stay. All in all, a place to remember and return to.

Warm welcome on arrival with welcome hamper.Sam & Alan couldn't be more helpful with advice on places to visit & good places to eat. The accomodation is clean & comfortable, but with some chilly nights the heaters did not warm the room much. Being in Finistere it is within easy reach of coastal towns & lovely little villages & towns. Our first visit to Brittany was excellent with the help of our hosts. We had the ground floor apartment and thought that a few more rugs upstairs could reduce the noise of people walking on bare boards which was a slight irritation.Having said that we still had one of our best ever holidays.

A delight upon arrival with lots of information about how to get the best from the area. Welcome pack was a bonus. Central for lots of towns and idyllic beaches. We were very lucky with the weather and so out and about but we felt that in poor weather we'd have been just as busy or relaxed 'indoors'.

We stayed here during the middle of winter for just over a week. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the Versailles apartment which was spacious and well equipped. The meal on arrival was delicious and meant that we didn't have to worry about cooking on our first night. The welcome pack of wine, bread cheese, milk, eggs etc was most appreciated and some of the items lasted us most of the week.
It is in a good location for exploring central Finistere and the coasts are easy to get to. There was lots of information about local attractions in the appartment.
Sam and alan were happy to spend time discussing our house hunting dilemmas. Very happy to recommend Le Cosquer Huella as a peaceful country retreat. -

would have appreciated a little more personal attention particlarly with regard to local knowledge; recommended eateries etc, and "must do places" although a fact file was available a little direction would have been helpful.

Along with the extensive guide books, leaflets etc, in our "welcome folder" are PERSONALLY recommended places to visit, listing information about those towns, places of interest etc, along with PERSONALLY recommended listed places to eat and sample menus of those restaurants, we even make reservations at particular restaurants for our guests.

Left on 04/21/2011 for a stay in June 2010
Wow - we have travelled more than most and stayed in a very wide range of holiday rentals all over Europe, but Le Cosquer Huella ranks among the best. The service is superb, warm, friendly but discreet, and there was nothing we could want for - so much thought had gone into making us welcome and our stay a delight. If it wasn't for their next booking we would have stayed another week.
The cottage was amazing - everything that the website claimed it to be - with all of the luxuries that one would only expect to find in a five star hotel. Everything had been thought of from the delightful welcome hamper including a very nice bottle of vin rouge to the wonderful soft fluffy towels and robes and even a spa bath.
We woke the next morning to that devine quiet, broken only by birdsong, that is only found in a rural setting and after a delicious breakfast from the hamper, started out on one of the many wonderful rambles (with advice from our hosts)available in the location.
The nearby village provided the obligatory fresh baguette every day and within a few kilometres we had access to any number of restaurants and supermarkets.
Le Cosquer Huella is perfectly placed in a central location , allowing guests to travel easily to any destination within Brittany to explore the surrounding villages and towns and be back to enjoy the luxury of the cottage by nightfall.
Aside from the superb material attributes of the cottage, its amenities and location, a major highlight of our stay with Samantha and alan was their unfailing courtesy and genuine friendliness, always seeming to be happy to engage in conversation with two very chatty australians. We were made to feel very welcome and a part of their family, allowed to share their story of their new life in France and even their distress and anxiety following an injury to one of their beloved dogs (so pleased to hear from them that the pooch is doing well).
If we didn't live so far away we would go back in a heartbeat.

What a fabulous place to stay, from the warm welcome to the delicious provisions left for us. The ground floor apartment was beautifully furnished, with a really romantic (and comfy) bed and lovely French-style furniture. The bathroom was well-equipped with a corner bath and shower. The living area was very practical, with a huge fireplace and a small but adequate kitchen. The outside barbecue area was a real boon. Sam was the perfect hostess, available if needed but otherwise leaving her guests to relax and enjoy the tranquility.
