Thank you to Claire and Richard for there warm hospitality. The gite was as described lovely and comfortable everything you need for a nice break away from all the stresses of life. Lovely area for cycling and walking. Coast just a short drive away.

LeedsFantastic stay-5 stars!
Left on 06/01/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We had a fantastic stay with Richard and Claire in their Penlan gite-5 stars!
We arrived to homemade plum jam and eggs from the chickens, a wonderful touch after a long journey. The gite was a cool escape on a hot day with the tiled floor and open plan layout, perfect after a day on the beach, and the wood burning stove was fantastic on the chillier evenings.
We loved the privacy of the gite, and the amazing views over the countryside, perfect for sitting out with dinner and a good book. Richard and Claire were very respectful of our privacy and were extremely helpful when we wanted some information on the surrounding area.
Some amazing places to explore in Finistere, if you love beaches, wildlife and nature, Penlan gites are a good option for your holiday in France. -

londonmodern accomodation in an historic landscape
Left on 05/10/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We can only endorse what others have said. The accomodation is spacious, modern, with just what you need and no clutter! The kitchen area is a joy to cook in. You can eat on the sunlight terrace and enjoy an unspoilt view of green countryside. The welcome pack gets you started on your first night, until you have had a chance to find the two excellent local bakers in the nearby town. The owners will do all they can to make your visit as fruitful as possible, but without intruding.
the location is ideally chosen to allow you explore the Western tip of Finistere; the Nante Brest Canal; excellent coastal and mountain walks (from the book suppled); and coastal and inland towns and villages. Oh...and you will sleep like a log in the king size bed.

LeitrimExcellent cottage in beautiful rural location
Left on 10/31/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We stayed in Penlan Gite for 3 nights. The gite is exactly as it is in on the web pics - gorgeous. The owners are extremly nice people, friendly but not intrusive. We got an excellent welcome pack on our arrival - bottle of wine, coffee, sugar, milk, fresh baguette, camembert cheese and evey homemade plum jam. This was a really nice touch and greatly appreciated - nice to be able to make a cuppa as soon as you arrive, before you've had time to check out the local shop - and opening hours in France are abismal! The gite is finished to an extremely high standard and the kitchen is very well equipped. The Douffine river flows a short distance from the gite and you can take a beautiful walk down to the river through a small forrest from right outside the door.
We were on a cycling holiday. The area is very hilly but we didn't let this stop us. There are beautiful country roads right outside the gite and you can enjoy a lovely cycle along the canal at Chataulin which is only a short drive away. We would definitely recommend this property again as it was an extremely lovely and comfortable gite. -

RomseyA great base for cycling in Brittany
Left on 10/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We had a very enjoyable cycle trip to Brittany recently, designed to coincide with some Tour de France spectating! It was the first time that I had cycled in France. I had been told that on the whole other road users were more bike aware and that proved to be very true.
For those of us used to busy UK roads it is a delight to be on roads that have nothing like the traffic volumes of our busy island. Road surfaces are also generally much better.
The Gite, easily reached from Roscoff on two wheels, makes an ideal base for day touring in western Brittany and the nearby 'Canal de Nantes a Brest' has an excellent cycle path alongside which has the advantage of a very gentle gradient and no traffic!
Penlan Gites provide a wonderful rural base for some great day rides in lovely, peaceful countryside with the knowledge that you can relax and get very comfortable very quickly in a very clean, well equipped gite at the end of the day.
The owners know the area very well and are very happy to advise about places to visit and routes.
To sum up cycling in this part of Brittany there is plenty of choice and variety including short sharp hills which reward with fast steep descent and the longer gentle climbs and undulations which reward with sweeping long descents. Beautiful scenery, considerate drivers and delightful French cuisine. -

PlymouthFantastic Gite
Left on 10/21/2011 for a stay in October 2011
We spent a full week at Penlan Gites and had a marvellous holiday. Over the years we have spent many holidays in gites and this was the best of the lot! The attention to detail was superb. The suroundings were peaceful and the welcome from Richard and Claire was very warm.
They were always available for advice and suggestions of where to go. We used the log burner on several nights and it made the gite very warm and cosy without needing the electric heating.
The Crozon Peninsula was so beautiful and had a huge variety of things to do, walking, beaches, history, water sports. We took our kayak and went on the Nantes/Brest canal at Ti Men and Port Coblant. This was total escapism, so quiet and pretty, with escaliers past the locks for the kayak.
The journey from Roscoff was very quick and easy and the Plymouth/Roscoff ferries were very well equiped and clean.
All in all, a holiday to be repeated at regular intervals. Looking forward to going back already! -

We picked this accomodation based on Trip advisor comments and recommendations and were not disappointed. This is quality self catering accomodation for couples, in the beautiful rural countryside, but within easy driving distance of the wonderful coastal areas of Brittany.
The owners were extremely accomodating when we made a late enquiry and booking. Previous reviews have said it all and we would have no hesitation in recommending this property. Top marks for the shower, log burner and absence of light pollution for star gazing! -

We had two wonderful weeks in our gite and would certainly like to return. The owners were welcoming and very friendly. The gite was very clean and comfortable with everything you could want for a holiday. The supplies provided on arrival were great and much appreciated. The gite was well placed for visiting the north, west and south of Brittany and we certainly enjoyed the fantastic beaches. All in all, a brilliant holiday.

Left on 09/05/2011 for a stay in August 2011
The previous reviews have more or less said it all - the peaceful surroundings, the convenient and well-thought out building conversion, the friendliness and efficiency of the owners. We've stayed in so many holiday flats over the years, and there's almost always been something to niggle - but this one had everything. Clean and bright and fresh, comfortable, well-heated, a wonderful shower, great cooking facilities. We had one of our best fortnights ever and are certainly planning to visit again. The excellence of the location is worth a special mention - the south, north and especially west coasts are so easily accessible. The expressway is so convenient (and has no tolls!). We loved everything.

Richard and Clare were brilliant hosts, they couldn't do enough for us, depite having a guide their knowledge enabled us to visit more interesting places. Although a bit isolated everything was in easy reach the furthest location being Vannes well worth the drive. The Gite was very well equipped and a small hamper was left to help on arrival, they came on a regular basis to check things were ok and they most certainly were. If you want peace and quiet no problem there are pleasant walks through the woods and along the stream, loads of birds such as jays, egrets and the ones we don't see in the UK.
Thankyou for a great holiday, we feel as though we have made friends who were so welcombing.

The gite was clean and bright and its surroundings idyllic. We felt right at home! The weather was fabulous and our trips to the surrounding towns and many of the Crozon beaches were fun-filled and sun-soaked. Our 3-day stay was not long enough. We would love to stay again soon.

YorkA special place for couples to stay in Western Brittany
Left on 06/13/2011 for a stay in May 2011
This is a lovely gite - very comfortable, well-equipped with a nice area to sit out and watch the sunset. You can walk straight from the door through a wood to a river - a great place to spot wildlife!
The coast is within easy reach - great beaches and wonderful walks. Concarneau, Locronan and Quimper - all attractive historic towns - are an easy drive away.
You can shop for food at the nearby supermarket but look out for market days in the local towns - good for atmosphere as well as great produce.
There are creperies and restaurants in Le Faou - a short drive away - if you fancy an evening out.
Claire and Richard made us feel very welcome and were happy to share their knowledge of the area with us.
We had a lovely, relaxing holiday and would love to go back. -

A great few days spent at Penlan. Excellent gite with everything you need. Owners very welcoming and helpful. Position ideal for visiting places in all directions including beautiful towns, beaches and the canal, yet you feel totally away from it all. We'll be back!

Left on 05/10/2011 for a stay in May 2011
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The gite is very well appointed and had everything we needed. It is spacious with plenty of natural light. Kitchen area well equipped. Really comfortable bed. We appreciated the generous "tidy over" food and drink items provided.
The gite is ideally located; a lovely walk down through a wood to the river bank, where the wild life included coypu and heron. Plenty of interesting and beautiful places to visit nearby.
The hosts, Richard and Claire, are a very friendly couple; knowledgeable and accommodating.
We intend to visit again next year.

From the moment you drive up to Penlan Gites, you sense the calm beauty of a rural retreat. Richard and Claire are wonderful hosts, and we arrived to a welcome hamper of cheese, bread, fruit, milk, tea, coffee and olive oil. The Gites are decorated in simple, chic style, with comfortable beds, and fabulous showers, and all necessary items such as cutlery, crockery and kitchen utensils are provided. The weather was lovely during our stay, and we took the opportunity to walk down to the river through the forest. Next time, we plan a picnic there! Nearby beaches are beautiful, and quiet, even on a late august weekend. We explored several villages nearby, and enjoyed moules at a quayside restaurant. Penlan Gites is a fabulous place to stay, to enjoy solitude in beautiful surroundings, and yet have beaches and towns within easy reach.
