An oasis of Tranquility awaits you at this pristine little villa loaded with charm and creature comforts. A truly unique island experience awaits guests choosing to relax in a natural and beautiful setting where care and sensitivity make this a most special retreat for the eye and soul.

St. John is noted for being green and serene – this is no truer than at Tranquility, which is the perfect place to enjoy the serenity of St. John in a private hideaway offering all the amenities and charm of island life with its spectacular sunsets and expansive views of the night sky from the verandah and surrounding decks.

Fish Bay is a q...uiet residential area on the south shore with a mix of full time residences and vacation villas and only 10 minutes from Cruz Bay, making it very convenient for trips to the beach or dinner in town.

Tranquility is away from it all, nestled in the trees on a hillside above Fish Bay on the one side and the luxuriously secluded Reef Bay on the other. The National Park’s virgin forests and beaches are close by. It is a private, romantic and unique little villa with high ceilings and 1,100 + sq. ft of living space which includes wrap around decks for sunning, sunset viewing over the water in Fish Bay and stargazing.

While the house is surrounded by big shade trees to the back and sides, offering complete privacy – there are no other houses in sight - the front view of the Bay affords a clear vista of the water and a full panorama of the incredible night sky.

Tranquility is an oasis of natural beauty year round. Equipped with air conditioning in the large master suite for the benefit of summer guests it is still possible to enjoy the natural cooling provided by the canopy of native shade trees and the glorious trade winds wafting through the airy and spacious little home. Tranquility is eco friendly, designed to take full advantage of the cooling trade winds, solar panels heat the water and a short nature walk down a garden path to the large (15 x 30’) pool carries you through an herb garden. Guests are welcome to pick fresh basil and herbs for their salads.

Tranquility’s builder was a fine craftsman, which is reflected in the beautiful floors inlaid from a gorgeous selection of South American hardwoods and other distinctive touches of a true artisan. Tranquility has been decorated by owner, Janet Cook-Rutnik, a local artist of renown whose artwork enhances the easy charm and comfort of this well-appointed vacation villa. The artist's husband has landscaped many of the finest properties on the island including nearby Guavaberry Farms, which is a veritable Garden of Eden.

Situated all by itself on a little knoll in Fish Bay overlooking the Bay, its recently refurnished interior reflects the best of Caribbean simplicity in taste and design, with a full kitchen, lovely dining area, cozy den, bedroom suite and a large bathroom.

More than half of Tranquility’s guests have been honeymoon couples who have thoroughly enjoyed the romantic and tropical appeal of Tranquility, which can also accommodate a small family. The den is a completely separate room with louvred doors and access to the large bathroom through it’s own door. The bath can also be accessed from the kitchen hallway so that it is not necessary to go through the den if guests are in it. A futon opens up to a full size double bed, with an overhead ceiling fan to cool the room, which opens onto the front verandah with a view of the bay.

A short footpath through the native, tropical forest leads you to the big 15’ by 30' swimming pool, which you will have all to yourself and are welcome to use any time of the day or night.

Another short walk takes you down a path to the breathtaking Reef Bay within the National Park. Reef Bay has a luxurious, long beach and is a shell seeker’s dream. Off the beaten path and with no roads directly to the beach, it is possible to have the famous National Park beach all to your self!

  Very private with romantic sunsets and night skies. Spacious and comfortable. Our hosts andy and Janet did all they could to make us welcome and offer recommendations for sights to see and places to eat. We rented a jeep and soon mastered the art of driving on the very hilly and sharp turn laden roads. The driveway is steep but that is the norm. It was really no problem. If you have at&T; as your provider you will do well. Verizon was on a roaming fee. You could sunbathe on the decks and relax with a rum punch or find plenty of crystal clear beaches, fantastic snorkeling and interesting hiking trails. It is a short drive into town and we hit different restaurants every night- all good!

  Tranquility... a perfect description

  We loved our stay at Tranquility. It was the perfect home away from home in a magical setting. We enjoyed the beautiful deck and could view the turquoise bay. We spent hours in the private pool enchanted by the well landscaped grounds. I am a chef and found the kitchen very equipped and used it a lot during our stay. We highly recommend a stay at Tranquility and simply cannot say enough good things about our experience.

  We loved the cozy bungalow we called home for 2 weeks. Totally secluded with views of fish bay and the mountains, beautifully appointed, the owner's carribean art everywhere. We felt like living in a gallery. Did not want for anything. Corral Reef, a short walk away, was like having our own private beach. The whole experience was fantastic and worth repeating!

  Privacy and Comfort in Fish Bay

  Located on a hillside in Fish Bay, Tranquilite is a a compact, well laid out house that offers both seclusion and comfort. The open floor plan is deligthful, and the cross ventilation of windows and sliding doors kept the house cool and comfortable even during the middle of the day. Small thoughtful touches (lots of clean towels, hair dryers, well outifitted kitchen) and wonderful artwork abound. The owners could not have been more gracious, and they offered lots of suggestions for activities and restaurants.
  Although the pool is a short walk from the house, the spacious decks and comfortable chairs and chaise offered plenty of space to relax right outside our bedroom and living room.

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, the house is in a perfect location- great views of Fish Bay!   This year will mark our 5th visit to Janet and andy's wonderful villa.
  
  The cottage is welcoming, bright, clean and cozy. The parquet wood floor and finishes lend a nautical flavor, and Janet's fine artwork adds color and interest. The kitchen is well appointed, the bedroom and beds comfortable. A huge deck with views of the bay, gas-grill and comfy out-door furniture provide the perfect spot to begin and end your day on the island.
  
  The warm welcome we received from our hosts allowed us to immediately feel at home, and their tips and guidance on what to see [based on their 40 years living on St. John] proved invaluable. They have a deep connection with family and friends in the community, and shared those gifts with us. We met their kids and grandkids, sailed with their life-long friends, attended a local football game [that andy was the announcer for,] and quickly succumbed to the beauty and grace of St. John living.
  
  We would recommend renting a car when staying at Tranquilite, and it's a short hop into Cruz Bay and the beaches. Beach chairs and nice big towels are provided. It is a short distance to the midpoint of the main road that takes you out to Coral Bay.
  
  We have rented or swapped for quarters in Paris, London, Amsterdam, Virginia Beach, Chicago, Santa Fe and San Francisco, but each year we return to the Tranquilite Villa on St. John. This place gets a double thumbs up recommendation from us.
