Rent an apartment in a lovely hillside villa with a swimming pool! This Lake Como accommodation in a villa overlooks the lake and the nearby town of Varenna, populated with beautiful old villas and romantic panoramas. Plentiful olive and cypress trees are evidence of the mild climate in the area around this apartment on Como Lake. Built on a rocky promontory over Lake Como, Varenna itself has been the heart of the area for centuries, an ideal place to explore whenever you decide to leave the privacy of your Lake como rental property. A romantic walkway, abounding in flora, wends along the lakefront in town, linking it to Olivedo, a landing po...int for ferries and steamers.

[350 m2] Casa Antonella 1 stands amidst a wealth of greenery, looking out over red-tiled roofs to a magnificent lakeshore view. A garden fronts the property, while the back of the house is at the end of a local road that stops five meters from the door. There is also a swimming pool. A beautiful private garden is just outside the door, including a patio with tables and chairs, and shaded by a trellis of wisteria. Old olive and cypress trees dot the property. Just below the house is another small accommodation for four, Casa Antonella 2, with its own terrace and independent access to the garden. If a larger sleeping capacity is necessary, it can be connected to Casa Antonella 1 through one of the double bedrooms, as Casa Antonella 3. There is parking for three cars about 60 meters away from the house. There are 20 steps from the house to the parking area.

Ground floor [160 m2]: Recently restored and furnished with care, Casa Antonella 1 has all the comforts of home with an authentic Italian feel. About 10 steps from the garden lead up to the front door. A living room, furnished with a fireplace, two sofas, and a television set, has windows that open onto the garden. A library, well stocked with Italian reading material, is adjacent. Also on the ground floor, a dining room seating 8 offers a beautiful lake view, plus an attached guest bathroom with a toilet and sink. A separate kitchen with refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher provides the opportunity to cook your own authentic Italian meals.

First floor: Stairs to the first floor open into a nice loft area, granting access to a terrace/solarium with a view of the lake. There are also three bedrooms on the first floor: two double bedrooms [with queen-sized beds] and a twin-bedded room. [Please note: one double bedroom can only be accessed through the twin-bedded room.] There are two independent bathrooms upstairs as well, accessible from a hallway: one with shower, the other with a tub, separate shower, and washing machine.

Second floor: Still higher, on a second floor, there is another twin-bedded room, each with an additional pull out bed [sleeping a total of four]. This room is most appropriate for children. Please note that the pull out beds are not included in the rental price. Each bed costs 150 euros per week.

Located on a beautiful property with a view of the lake, this villa rental overlooking Lake Como is at the entrance of the estate, just 4 km from the lakeshore town of Varenna. The town is an ideal starting point for a visit to the north/center of Italy, as well as the southern base of the Swiss Alps. Milano Linate airport is only an hour away, while Milano Malpensa airport is less than two hours. Nearby places to visit include the castle of Vezio [5 minutes' walk from the house] and the Villa Monastero, a neo-classical garden offering a long walk along the lakeshore. The resort towns of Lake Como, including Bellagio, Menaggio, and Tramezzo, are all easily accessible by ferry. Other lake Como attractions include ancient monuments, churches, and shopping areas.

  We had a lovely time at Casa Antonella, one of the properties on a gated estate, located high above the village of Varenna. Living in the large and comfortable house and enjoying the many views it afforded made for a memorable vacation.
  
  THE VIEWS OF LAKE COMO and the surrounding mountains. Some of the higher peaks were snow-capped in late September and early October. The dining room and terraces were the perfect perches for watching the cloud formations, sunsets, and changing weather patterns. The small swimming pool was still filled with ice cold water for a bracing dip during a warm day and the pool area had several chaise lounges for taking in the sun. The hot water heater in the entry way produced lots of hot water for doing the dishes and showering.
  
  This being Italy, the electrical system is underpowered by US standards and appliances such as the oven and electric coffee maker and kettle often blew a fuse if used at the same time. But there is a fuse box in the entry way to access to flip switches and power up. We did not use the electric dishwasher or washing machine (couldn't figure out the dials) but did some hand laundry and used the drying rack on the top floor terrace for drying the old fashioned way. Also, some of the shower stalls leaked but not so bad that it caused floods. The bathtub in the largest bathroom is simply too narrow for any normal sized person so we didn't bother using it.
  
  The location of the villa high above Varenna next to the tiny hilltop village of Vezio was unique. Vezio has the look of a medieval village with stone streets, tiny stone houses, and the ruins of a medieval castle complete with resident raptors. Access to the town via automobile is along a series of narrow switchback roads. By foot, one must hike up a precipitous pathway to get from Varenna on the lakefront to the villa.

  The villa was PERFECT. I had high expectations based on the views, description and materials presented on the web site but the reality of the villa and its locale exceeded my high expectations.
  
  The grounds of the villas and the views were the best feature of the property. Views of Lake Como and Castello Vezio were stunning. The pool was private and was a very comfortable place to relax. The front porch was beautiful with a dining table situated under a trellis of wisteria. There were flowers blooming everywhere.
  
  The property sits just above the gate that leads to the private entrance to the surrounding villas. There was more traffic coming in and going out of that gate than we would have liked as it was occasionally rather noisy.
  
  The best feature of the surrounding area was the easy access to the Sentiero Del Viandante. This is a "hiking path" that runs the entire length of lake Como. We hiked from Vezio north to the town of Bellano. It was 90 minute hike each way that wended its way through small communities, forests and meadows. About every kilometer or so there were quaint little sanctuaries that were very interesting.

  Marvellous. A great site, comfortable house and excellent service and help from the housekeeper, Mrs Stella. With 4 couples and a 2 yr old child, we thought we might suffer from lack of space but the layout and facilities were ideal.
  
  The situation is magic. The elevation gives a great perspective of the Lake Como lifestyle with the adjoining local village of Vezio offering an insight into the past 900 years, yet still being so functional today. Also the views across to the other towns on the hills both near and far added to this feeling of being part of the scene
  
  The only downside was having one bedroom opening off another. With kids it would be OK but even with close friends you felt a little intrusive having to pass through
  
  Drive to Varenna and then ferry to wonderful towns like Bellagio and Mennagio- not to be missed. Also the ferries to Como and Lecco offered more great sights.

  Casa Antonella was a beautiful property. The accommodations were very nice, plenty of room. We were pleased to discover internet access and certainly would have enjoyed the property more if the weather had been better. The kitchen was well outfitted but small.

  Everything about the trip was perfect.
  
  The grounds of the property, and its close proximity to Castle Vezio were fantastic. We also explored the various caves on the property.
  
  Nothing.
  
  Castle Vezio was superb. We also took ferries to numerous other towns in the area and spent time exploring them - each one was unique. We also visited Villa Carlotta which I would highly recommend.
