This is our second stay at Highland Lake, our first staying at Evening Star. We'll come back again. Everything is very clean and comfortable. Having the 2 bathrooms (one upstairs and one downstairs) is handy.

I was very pleased with the ability to find my keys to the home waiting for me when I arrived and to find a beautifully decorated home with all the amenities, including Tommy Bahama toiletries in both bathrooms. Seeing the beautiful pasture with the goats, sheep and peacocks right outside my window provided me with the peace and serenity I was looking for.
Clean, well kept, comfortable place to stay.

We didnt quite know what to expect when arriving. But we were very pleasantly surprised. The cabin was super clean. The grounds were well keep and quiet. The neighbors were super nice. We were very comfortable and had a fantastic time while staying there. Will be calling again when it comes time to visit the family. Thank you for a wonderful time.

We rented this precuous cottage for our anniversary weekend, and it was absolutely wonderful. It looks out onto a grassy area facing 3 other cabins, which adjoins to a fenced in pasture where little goats roam around. The interior is beautiful, and you have everything you need from plates to utensils to cookware. There is one bedroom which is spacious and comfortable.
The lake is just a short walk from the cabin, and we took advantage of the paddleboats and canoes. It was great to have access to so many activities! We didn't make it to the restaurant on the grounds but everyone raved about how good it is.
The grocery store is less than a mile away and is a really nice store- full deli, huge beer/wine selection, etc. It is less than 5 minutes to downtown Hendersonville which is the sweetest place to spend a day, and only 20 minutes from great hiking with fantastic waterfalls.
We were only there for 3 nights but felt as though we had been on vacation for a full week because we were so relaxed. The service was great, and we are in love with that cabin, so we will definitely be back!!!

Evening Star was clean and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed. Spacious, and in great surroundings. We had a wonderful time. Kitchen was well equipped, plenty of utensils and cookware. It could of used more glasses, and a baking sheet, but that's minor. Would definitely come back again.
Evening Star is Great

We would highly recommend staying at Evening Star. It is well furnished and comforable.
The location is great - grocery store near by, close to the Carl Sandberg home and an art theater. There are also wonderful restaurants in the area.
Be sure to explore the grounds at Highland Lake. In addition to the wonderful flowers and lake you will find goats, a peacock, chickens and a turkey!
Excellent accommodations, terrific location.

We were pleased beyond expectations with the condition of the one-bedroom unit we rented, Evening Star. The interior is in "brand new" condition, and the flat-screen TVs, linens and bedding, appliances, furnishings and finishing woodwork really made the lodge feel like home. The location puts you within minutes of Flat Rock (seasonal theatre/performing arts makes for a particularly enjoyable stay) and an excellent local Bakery/Gift Shop. Hendersonville boasts a museum and great reastaurant/shopping experience nearly all owned and operated by local residents. Asheville and the Biltmore Estate are within a 40 minute drive. What a great getaway! The Highland Lake Properties manager is prompt, efficient and conscientious, making our stay worry-free.

My family and I love the cottages at Highland Lake. We have stayed in 4 different cottages. The Evening Star was our choice this year. It was a lovely cottage with a great layout. The view of the hamlett was perfect. Our son enjoys the goats and other animals, the lake, and walking around the property. Steve is easy to work with, and we think the price for what you get is fantastic. We like to eat-in, so the kitchen is a great feature. The Evening Star kitchen was very well-furnished. We hope to return next fall!

We enjoyed coming here to celebrate an 88th birthday and a family anniversary and really appreciated the quality of this rental. Close to town, and about 45 minutes from asheville. Do go to the Carl Sandburg home, less than 20 minutes away, if you stay here. National Park Service has excellent tour guides /hosts.
Our rental was immaculately clean with excellent appointments, quality fixtures, a comfy bed and both TVs and Wi-fi. The manager made us feel most welcome.
We appreciated the "Bear" theme decor. Other relatives rented a home in the same neighborhood and ours was nicer.
Way better than staying in any hotel. Would definitely recommend this rental to friends and family alike.
Excellent private and quiet accomodations - great getaway

This is the first time that we have rented a vacation home. This property is very well managed, reservation process through Steve was easy and overall it was a lovely experience. Highlights & Tips:
1) Contact Highland Lake Properties www.highlandlake.net directly to get accurate and fast response on availability and pricing.
2) We originally reserved the Romance Cottage, but before the rental agreement was signed, the property mgr switched us to Evening Star (a larger cottage) for the same cost. The cost is comparable to a room at a hotel or inn so really a good deal.
3) The rental agreement was surprisingly lengthy - not sure if it is typical for vacation rentals.
Mailed in the signed contract and a check deposit.
4) Upon arrival, our keys, instructions and map were tucked in the door so checkin was simple.
5) The home is superb - clean and very nicely decorated - like staying in a new model home. It was also spacious for 2 adults. One bathroom upstairs and one downstairs. Complete amenities for bath (towels, hair dryer, starter soap/shampoo), kitchen (plates/glasses/cooking utensils) and even laundry. Complimentary 2 bottles of wine.
6) The porch was very enjoyable and overlooked the pasture where the friendly goats came to graze daily. Very peaceful. Nice grounds for jogging/walking.
7) Peddle boats and canoes at the second dock (not the dock for Hlinn) can be used.
8) Close to Hendersonville historic downtown area with lots of restaurants & shopping, Dupont State Forest with wonderful waterfalls, Flat Rock Bakery & Hubba Hubba Restaurant and Ingles grocery store. There is a very helpful visitor center in downtown Hendersonville which provided many maps and brochures of things to do.
9) Upon checkout, we tossed our own garbage and put all used linens in the laundry room. That was it.
We enjoyed our stay at Evening Star very much (2000 chars cannot do it justice) and would definitely return if vacationing in the area.

Last minute call yielded big dividend, comfy cozy cottage complete with goats in the corral, a peacock on the wing, complete kitchen, wi-fi, flat screens and all the amenities. Good price, quiet, easy to reach, easy to town. Bring your backpack, but no need to camp, swim, jog, run the dogs and kids, golf, shower, great restaurant, all on the premises. No Motel 6, but they will leave the light on for 'ya, and key under the mat.

We return to the Garden Hamlet cottages whenever we possibly can and always have a wonderful experience. The beautiful setting is a welcome retreat from the busy pace of life, and the cottages are delightful. Evening Star is cheerful, inviting, and in an ideal location on the meadow. We look forward to returning soon!

My wife and I stay in the Evening Star with our 8 month old baby for 10 days and it was wonderful!
The Cottage: The cottage was absolutely perfect. It is practically brand new on the inside and beautifully decorated to give you that "mountain home" feel. It has everything you need to live comfortably - Full Kitchen w/ cookware and utensils, washer/dryer, BBQ grill, etc. We were able to cook dinner most of the time which really helped keep the overall expense of the trip to a minimum. The TV/entertainment center was very nice w/ cable TV and Blu-Ray player (although we did not use it much as we were enjoying the great outdoors!). There were also 2 bottles of really great wine and a bottle of sparkling water waiting for us upon our arrival - nice touch!! My wife and I felt like we were at home in this cottage and we were definitely sad to leave.
The Highland Lake Grounds: The immediate grounds were peaceful and beautiful. There is so much to do just within walking distance. They have a golf course, farm, yoga studio, lake, kayaks, swimming pool, restaurant, hammocks, picnic tables, etc within walking distance of the cottage. I would say that we spent 50% of our time just walking the beautiful property and enjoying the scenery.
The immediate area: There are plenty of restaurants and sites within 15 minutes of this property. Flat Rock Playhouse, Historic Downtown Hendersonville, Carl Sandburg Home, Jump Off Rock, and Dupont Forest with beautiful waterfalls (30 min drive) to name just a few. I also noticed a bunch of mountain bikers riding around the area if you like that sort of thing. There is also a wonderful Grocery store (Ingles) with a Starbucks and huge selection of organic foods only 1/4 mile from the property.
Overall Experience: Let me just say that my wife and I did not want to leave this cottage!! I could go on forever, but I am running out of room. I hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your stay here as much as we did!!
A little bit of heaven

Flat Rock was unknown to me until my visit. What a charming and wonderful place! Evening Star was a delightful place to stay nothing missing! The local area was picutresque, waterfall and quaint trails making it complete.
