Wilmington, NCA Little Jewel
Left on 05/22/2013 for a stay in May 2013
A perfect place for a couple to kick back and enjoy themselves. Everything was waiting when we arrived. The cabin is tucked away in a quiet setting. Everything in the cabin is high-end. Granite, leather and stainless, and it has a dead quiet heating and cooling system. We had occasion to use both modes, due to the weather. Great hiking, close to the local golf course and just minutes to town. The wifi worked well, but cell phone service is marginal. We expect to enjoy the cabin several times in the future.

Mooresville, North CarolinaGreat Weekend Getaway
Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in July 2012
We found this property to be a great place for a weekend getaway. It was easy to book, and the property was immaculate. We thought the location was convenient for hiking in nearby Dupont State Forest, and urban exploration of Hendersonville and Flat Rock. We saw a play in town, and had a fabulous dinner at Seasons Restaurant, just a walk away from the cottage. The meal alone will make us want to return, but altogether, this was a perfect place to celebrate my birthday!

McDonough, GeorgiaWonderful cottage
Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in June 2012
We stayed here the first week of June 2012, and I meant to write a review earlier. The cottage was clean, beautiful and well appointed. It was perfect for the two/three of us (our daughter stayed with us the night before we dropped her off at camp and the night we picked her up). We would love to stay here again!

Left on 03/25/2013 for a stay in February 2013
The cottage was absolutely perfect! Very well appointed and clean. Check-In was a breeze as we had already handled the paperwork before we arrived. Without a doubt I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a romantic getaway or quiet retreat. We will definitely be planning another trip soon!

Fort Lauderdale, FloridaEverything you need, nothing you don't
Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This place is Such a cozy little getaway, whether canoodling with your snugglebuns, or taking a break from..,whatever. It seriously comes with everything you need within reach, a complete kitchen and grocery nearby, laundry, good sized cable tv downstairs, wifi etc. as well as a wonderful fine dining establishment on site. the food there is local, and beautifully prepared (try the bison)!
A couple minor things that kept this place from perfection: there wasn't any soap in the bathroom of all things, and the upstairs tv was microscopic. I know it's a romance cottage for lovin' and stuff, but I love tv..so... -

Montgomery, AlabamaAmazing location at an exceptional price!
Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in February 2013
I stumbled upon the romance while searching for an intimate cabin that wasn't too seclude and easily accessible. Being my first time in the mountains this cabin was perfect!!! It's in the middle of 3 excellent state parks, 15 minutes away from the historic town of Hendersonville, and within 45 minutes distance of anything you would want to see! The cabin was immaculate and exquisitely furnished. The goat theme throughout played well with inherent coziness of the cabin. My only problem was the lack of heat downstairs. I circumvented the problem by using the oven and the fireplace to heat the lower level ( I don't recommend this); however, I would recommend bringing a small space heater if you intend on coming in the colder months. For a faster and more accurate response on availability contact Highland Lake Properties directly at www.highlandlake.net. Steve is very accommodating and will walk you through the reservation process. Lastly, I recommend arriving before nightfall because the encroaching darkness can be somewhat foreboding up there. Hope you enjoy your stay as much as I did!

Left on 02/14/2013 for a stay in January 2013
I am a pastor and needed a quiet place to get away for a planning retreat. I spent four nights alone at this lovely cottage and was able to plan sermons and activities for the entire year! The house was very comfortable (although a little chilly downstairs unless the gas logs were left on...of course it was January!!) The service was wonderful when I registered and the housekeeping staff was awesome! I had a great walk down to the lake and spent time resting on the dock, enjoying the beauty of God's creation. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Lake and would highly recommend it to folks wanting to spend some quiet time away from the usual rat race!

This is our second stay in the Romance Cottage and it definitely won't be our last. We love this place, it's cozy, always spotless, and in a great location. We love the Flat Rock/Hendersonville area, so much to do with hiking, biking, quaint little shops to browse in, and great restaurants.

Auburn, ALPeaceful, New Year's 'Babymoon'
Left on 01/16/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We stayed at the lovely cottage for three nights over New Year's. The price couldn't be beat for such a great, updated facility. We rented movies from the Redbox at the CVS just down the road, got groceries from the Ingles about 2 miles away, and drove into nearby Hendersonville several times for shopping and dining. We took one of the canoes out for a picnic, which was really nice. There weren't many canoes to choose from though, and I could see this being a problem during the summertime. The only major complaint was that the heating unit for the cottage doesn't seem adequate to heat the entire space efficiently. We had to crank it up to 87 degrees to be somewhat comfortable downstairs, while still wearing layers of clothes/blankets to watch movies. When we'd retire to the bedroom upstairs for the night, we were very hot up there and had to completely cut off the heat and open up windows. The same cycle would repeat the next day. One other unexpected finding was that the cottages are all very close together. From the photo of the Romance Cottage, it looks very secluded from the other properties. By looking at the property on Google Earth, you can get an idea of the layout of the properties. I imagined it as a very nice campground with cottages rather than tents. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at the Romance Cottage.

Atlanta, GARomance Cottage Getaway
Left on 01/16/2013 for a stay in January 2013
My boyfriend and I recently rented this cottage for a long weekend. We wanted to be close to asheville so we could go to the Biltmore one day for a tour. This is really a beautiful place. I especially loved the kitchen with all of the stainless steel appliances and kitchen accessories that I would need to cook some meals myself. It was extremely clean and decorated beautifully. We found our trip to be very relaxing and especially enjoyed the goat farm, chicken coop, short walk to the lake, paddle boats, and canoes available on site. We want to go back in the summer.

Left on 07/30/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed in the Romance Cottage for 3 nights on our honeymoon and it is the perfect little cottage for two! The decor was wonderful and the bed very comfortable! The cottage was very clean and the two complementary bottles of wine and water were great!! We felt right at home and the surrounding neighbors were all very friendly! Enjoyed walking around and checking out the surrounding area. The mamma goat had just had a lamb and it was so much fun to walk down to the barn and watch it jumping around!! Sooo cute! Only about 10 min. to downtown Hendersonville, and 5 to downtown Flat Rock. Great location!! Steve was so nice and helpful- Highland Lake Properties are the best!!We will be returning annually for our anniversary!!

Oakboro, NCAbsolutely wonderful, relaxing, and much needed get-away weekend
Left on 06/21/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I contacted Highland Lake Properties by email and realtor Steve Collins was very accomodating to our schedule and finances and went out of his way to answer questions and arrange our weekend stay.
The home is adorable and comfortable. Decorated beautifully. My husband and I loved it! Stayed in the Romance Cottage which I would recommend for a couple, perfect for the two of us. Cottages were closer to each other than I had expected but no problem-very quiet neighborhood.
Located a short distance from downtown Hendersonville and Flat Rock. We walked around downtown Hendersonville on Sat morning which we both thoroughly enjoyed. We ate breakfast from the McFarlan's Bakery there (delicious). We ate lunch at Mike's downtown. Enjoyed the atmosphere of eating outside. The weather was absolutely beautiful that weekend!
Went to Dupont Park. You don't know it's there unless you are looking for it. Absolutely beautiful example of God's handiwork! We love waterfalls so we just spent the whole afternoon walking from one to the other. Notice, I said walking! Be prepared cause it took us 4 hours to walk to 4 waterfalls but it was well worth every sore muscle we had the next day! Take water and snacks. Walk up to the top of Bridal Veil Falls and the bottom of Triple Falls and Highland Falls or you'll miss part of the experience and beauty. The only complaint I have is the park would not pull up on our GPS and the roads are not marked clearly for the park at all. Stop and get directions in Flat Rock. It is only about 15-20 minutes from Flat Rock and so well worth your time to visit! We ate at Hubba Bubba's BBQ in Flat Rock after our adventure at Dupont Park and it was delicious BBQ with outside seating too. The place is not fancy but the food is excellent---right up our alley! (FYI They don't take credit or debit cards so be prepared with cash.)
Wonderful weekend. We enjoyed everything and will go again and highly recommend the property and the area. -

We loved the Romance Cottage at Highland Lake in Flat Rock. It was tastefully decorated and had everything we wanted from the flat screen tv and wireless internet to the fireplace and relaxing back porch. We especially enjoyed meeting the goats, chickens, and the white peacock. I highly recommend this cottage.

Huntsville, AlabamaIn Love with the Romance Cottage!
Left on 07/18/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We took a short vacation in this area because our son was at summer camp in Hendersonville, and we fell in love with both the area and this cottage! Just the right size for two people, it is brand new and thoughtfully designed. Don't be fooled by the plain exterior...it is beautiful on the inside! Everything is top-notch (leather sofa, flat screen TV, granite countertops, stainless appliances...) and it is very clean. The cottages in the garden hamlet are close together, but it is a quiet, peaceful place. The Seasons Restaurant, located within walking distance of the Romance Cottage, is wonderful. We also enjoyed the quaint Flat Rock village (5 minutes away), including the Flat Rock Playhouse, the Carl Sandburg home, the Flat Rock theater, Hubba Hubba Smokehouse, and the Flat Rock Bakery. Historic downtown Hendersonville (10 minutes) is a fun place to explore, and has a nice visitor's center with extremely helpful volunteers. (There are also several great restaurants.) The Pisgah National Forest (maybe 45 minutes) is a very worthwhile visit. We are so glad to have discovered this little gem, and look forward to visiting again many times over the years when our son returns to camp!

Left on 06/12/2011 for a stay in February 2011
My husband and I had a very relaxing weekend in the mountains! The cabin was beautiful and so comfortable! We loved the goats and animals on the farm! The restaurant was delicious and the service was very friendly. The only thing that we would like to have been different, was that there was more to do...however, we had never been there before and didn't know about much! Next time, we will get more information on "things to do" before we come!

St. Petersburg, Fla.Amazing Vacation Getaway
Left on 04/25/2011 for a stay in April 2011
My husband and I stayed in the "Romance Cottage," which is part of Highland Lake Properties. We were there one week, and I can't think of a better vacation!
The cottage was well appointed and cozy -- it is small, but it was perfect for the two of us. On the second day of our stay, my husband remarked, "this feels like home!"
The cottage had everything we needed: full kitchen, washer and dryer, flat screen TVs and a fireplace! We used it on the cold nights and it was wonderful.
The cottage was an excellent home base for everything we wanted: hiking in Pisgah National Forest, biking at Dupont State Park and strolling around the town of Hendersonville. All were within a short drive of the property.
We also took advantage of the wonderful yoga studio near the cottage; Highland Lake Yoga and teacher Fred Brown were a highlight of our trip!
Another huge plus: we were next to the Highland Lake Inn, where we ate a tasty southern breakfast one day.
I would highly recommend this cottage and this location. If you are in need of a larger cottage for more than two people, Highland Lake has larger vacation rentals...in fact, my husband and I are trying to figure out when we can get our extended family together and rent a larger home later this year! We loved it that much!!! -
