Our two grown kids and their spouses thought it would be fun to get out of town for Thanksgiving . We were fortunate enough to find the Gatehouse --3 bedrooms and all the comforts of home plus all the amenities of a nice hotel .We love East Flat Rock and the fabulous seasons restaurant at the Highland Lake Inn ---it was a wonderful Thanksgiving experience --and the Falls right outside our bedrooms ---unique---magical !!--we all loved it!!

Gatehouse is the place to stay...having a waterfall right outside your door??? awesome!!! everything was great...had everything you needed, easy checkin/checkout...love the setup the way the bedrooms were downstairs...Only suggestion is get new Tv's!! the televisions are old/outdated and for a huge football fan like me, having to watch my games on the weekend, this was the only negative.Other than that, will def go back...we were there for a wedding and all my friends that came by said my cabin was the best!!!

My wife loves water and waterfalls which was the reason for our visit to the area; in search of waterfalls. We had a permanent waterfall and a beautiful view whenever we were not hiking the DuPont National Forest and photographing waterfalls. The entire family was pleased and the accommodations were perfect. Proximity and convenience to everything was an added treat yet the feel was one of privacy and Walden Pond "ish." Beds were very comfortable and with the white noise of the waterfall sleep was as peaceful as could be. Unlike many vacations this one was restful. Flat Rock could be a permanent destination.
Would highly recommend.
Only one recommendation. Have someone eliminate the poison ivy that surrounds the cottage on almost every tree. For those highly contagious it could cause a severe allergic reaction. Otherwise, perfect for us!!! -

We loved the Gatehouse. There is no fireplace so this would not be a fall venue for us but for the summer it was great. Very comfortable house with super-sized tubs, very nice beds and of course the decks and porches were perfect for getting outside. There is poison ivy everywhere; however, which was unsettling as two family members are extremely allergic but it's been ten days and no harsh breakouts. Very convenient location to shopping, mountain hiking, and yet totally private. The house is situated in a wonderful community complete with chickens and organic gardens. We paddled the lake but enjoyed Lake Lure much more. All in all, I'd totally recommend and hope we can visit again soon.

Beautiful and spacious 3-bedroom home overlooking a picture-perfect vista -- a waterfall flowing over a 20' high dam just beyond the backyard.
Beds were extra soft and comfortable. Upstairs, the kitchen, living room, and dining room were nicely furnished.
The property manager was always accessible by cell phone to answer any questions, and quite accommodating of some special requests.
The home has free wi-fi which provided excellent signal strength throughout our 3-day visit.

This home makes you feel like you are enjoying the
outside even when you are inside. The views are incredible.
Listening to the waterfall from your bed or sitting on
your private deck says it all. We had a blast.

Top notch service from reservation to check out. The Gatehouse is a truly unique setting with a great deck overlooking the waterfall! Well equipped kitchen, nice living area and three spacious bedrooms with really comfortable beds. Feels secluded but just minutes to shopping, golf and downtown. Flatrock Playhouse was outstanding. Looking forward to return visit.

We really had a wonderful time. This house will mean somthing to us the rest of our life due to we got married out back of the house near the waterfall during our stay. We have the most amazing pictures. We loved to lay in bed at night and look out at the waterfall and listen to it as we fell asleep.

Great cottage, very comfortable, super clean and very comfortable beds. The view is fantastic and the sound of the falls very soothing. We had a wonderful stay and hope to do it again soon. Close to lots of hiking and great restaurants.
