We had a terrific time staying at the Lower Millhouse. It was perfect for our getaway, and the spillway/waterfall is a treat right outside the door. We enjoyed everything about our stay there, and Steve was gem! Looking forward to a return visit.

I can't find the words to adequately describe this beautiful hideaway. The falls wash away the outside world and yet anything you want or need is just minutes away. We enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway, a folk art show in asheville and a great dinner in Hendersonville all in the same day without feeling the least bit rushed. We will be going back for a longer stay. Then maybe we will be able to take advantage of the lake and other amenities. I did get a chance to take a nice leisurely walk and look forward to sharing one with my husband the next time around. (He had to leave earlier than I did.) if you get the chance ... Just go and enjoy!

Cabin is lacking some amenities like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, tissues in bathroom. Main bedroom and only bath are both upstairs. Not recommended for person unable to climb stairs.
This unit does not have washer/dryer. Kitchen has limited appliances ( microwave, toaster over)

Wonderful Stay/Amazing View

Our stay at the Lower Millhouse was amazing. Clean, mountain luxury. The most amazing part was the view, which cannot be beaten if you love water falls. The most hilarious part of our stay was that the Canadian geese lined up in perfect rows, perfect distance apart from one another, every night at dark on the top of the waterfall as water rushed over their feet. It was fascinating to watch to say the least. Have no idea what that behavior meant? Ha! The best service experience was that the sugar ants arrived on our kitchen counter from all the recent rain and found their way into our brand new chocolate chip muffins. Millions of them were chowing down. It's not uncommon in the south when it rains for sugar ants to find a way in,so no worries of uncleanliness. We called the front office and he immediately lined up an exterminator to come and spray at our convenience of schedule. He did it with odorless spray so not smell at all. Not only were they completely gone, but the manager delivered a brand new package of fresh muffins and put a gallon of juice in the fridge for us as a courtesy for our inconvenience. We appreciated his service and care. We never saw another ant.
We simply enjoyed ourselves at the mill house immensely. We'll be back, I am sure, and we hope to see the geese again!

First off, I looked at almost 40-50 different places to stay from asheville, Black Mountain, Lake Lure, Hendersonville, etc. I wanted a place to get away from my hectic job and spend time with my wife and relax. This was a perfect spot. Steve was great and made us feel at home. He gave us all the information we needed to make a good decision to rent his place. The accommodations was very unique and the waterfall was simply awesome. We rented the lower millhouse, which did not have a stove, but you are on vacation and why cook when Hendersonville is 3 miles away and has great places to eat. We ate at cypress gardens for some Cajun food and then stopped at Mezzaluna another night. The trout special was outstanding. You need to sit outside and dine, as the people watching was great and the weather was perfect! You can't go wrong with Steve and the lower millhouse!
Awesome. Incredible. Mesmerizing.

The Lower Millhouse is exactly as it looks in the photos, and more. It was very clean and comfortable with a memory foam mattress. The waterfall, Highland Lake it's convenient location to the surrounding areas were our deciding factors. The waterfall and lake are immediately outside the windows/doors/decks and provide for a beautiful and relaxing stay. We explored the Highland Lake property and took out a canoe- it was located just steps away and we found the lifevests and paddles just as we were told. Steve, our booking agent, was extremely friendly and accommodating. The reservation, check-in and check-out process was simple and was without any concerns. He made himself available to us should we need anything- we did not as everything was left for us as expected. The property is a short drive to groceries, gas, restaurants and shops and incredibly convenient the surrounding sightseeing of the state parks. We loved Hubba Hubba's fish bowl and had the best pizza at the Flat Rock Wood Room- our server Zane was fantastic! We had a wonderful stay and are already planning a return visit. We had no complaints and would recommend to anyone that loves a natural, comfortable, peaceful environment. Thanks, Steve! See you soon!
Waking up to waterfalls

Our stay at the lower mill-house was very relaxing and comfortable. The waterfall is so nice to wake up next to and watch from either balcony.
I wouldn't suggest walking back to the cottage at night without a flash light. The pitch black darkness almost left us lost in the forest. However, we did meet a horse and donkey on that adventure...
Family vacation in NC
Left on 07/10/2011 for a stay in July 2011 | TampaDad
We chose the Flat Rock area for a our family vacation this summer for its proximity to multiple cities and outdoor attractions. Our family included husband/wife and 2 young children and a grandmother. The upper/lower millhouse combination was perfect as it gave their grandmother privacy while still close and connected. She stayed in the upper millhouse. We stayed in the lower. The cabins had everything we needed and most importantly, a beautiful view from every room of the waterfall. The only catch is that the lower millhouse does not have a a full oven/stove, but the upper does.
The property management company was very attentive to our needs. We requested extra towels and received them within hours. Garbage was taken away twice during the week, which is far more frequent than other places we have stayed.
Our experience was magical

From our first contact with Steve until our final visit with him the day we left, his service was considerate, professional and efficient. The home, location and amenities could not have been more beautiful. Being by the waterfall was truly magical. The price was more than reasonable. We enjoyed everything about this trip.

This cottage was very easy to locate and had a fantastic view of the waterfall! Even though it rained the entire vacation, it was the perfect place to escape for a weekend. The only thing I would change would be to add a stove for times when it is too rainy to grill outside. This was a great place to rest and relax!
It was perfect!

The view to the waterfall was amazing! We had a great time! Thank you so much!
