      disappointing overall

Left on 02/07/2013 for a stay in November 2012

The finished living area was nice and pleasingly decorated. We enjoyed the gas logs and the game tables and open floor plan. Our family of 6 was comfortably situated. This cabin was unfinished though and not well insulated so noise traveled easily and the basement was cold. The mountain road to the cabin was dirt, and narrow (only one car assess which was scary for us, but we managed with our four wheel drive vehicle. The cabin was situated in an isolated community of home owners... and we felt a little nervous about being the lone vacationeers. Neighborhood dogs greeted us at every turn... and although they were friendly, this was uncomfortable for us as well. We will not return to this particular cabin.

Left on 01/29/2013 for a stay in November 2012

My wife and I stayed at the cabin for two days in Nov. The weather was gloomy, but we had terrific views from the mountain and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of the cabin for a restful and romantic getaway. Walks around the neighborhood, day trips into asheville and activities in the cabin kept us busy; we had a terrific time.

      Just OK...

Left on 07/24/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Nice deck to enjoy the mornings with a cup of coffee. Friendly neighborhood dogs that came to visit a couple of times a day. Relatively close to asheville and surrounding areas.

The cabin itself was nice, but there were a few issues.
1)Looking for a view of the mountains, unfortunately there wasn't one. Only trees :( 2)Not very clean (mildew in the first floor shower) 3) Unfinished drywall in the stairwell to the lower level. Whats up with that? 4) The decor needed a little help. Looked much better in the pictures on line. Broken lanterns outside on the decks. 5) No community bathroom. Looks like there are plans for one on the lower level by the laundry room. (which was also unfinished). With the other two bathrooms inside the bedrooms, this is a must!

Definitely did not get the quality for the price we paid.

      Summer vacation in the mountains.

Left on 06/11/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We just got back from our trip to asheville. We had four couples stay at the Red Wolf. We very much enjoyed our stay. We made great use of the hot tub and pool table. The cabin fit our needs, and one night we even grilled for dinner. The kitchen was nice so we could have breakfast each morning relaxing on the deck. Even in June, the temperature was perfect. We would love a bathroom to be added downstairs, it would have made it a lot easier for the couples that stayed on the bottom floor to not have to travel through other bedrooms every night/morning. However, for families with kids it would not have been as big of an issue. We would have also liked for some items to be updated/replaced because of old condition, such as the towels, tv, and deck chairs. The cabin is in a very nice location as it was easy to travel in both directions on Highway 74 to visit downtown asheville and also Chimney Rock the other way. It is an interesting drive getting up to the cabin, but once we did it a few times we were pros at it. There are dogs that run right up to your car on the way up. We very much enjoyed our stay. We would not have been able to experience the area and mountain the same in a hotel or downtown. The best thing was we were able to take our dogs with us on our vacation. We had four dogs and the upper deck was perfect. We could sit outside to visit or for breakfast and the dogs were contained on the upper deck. Asheville is the perfect little getaway for couples or families. We highly recommend hiking the Chimney Rock area.

View from loft. Hike to a waterfall at Chimney Rock. Exploring downtown Asheville.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Red Wolf. It's such a beautiful log cabin, we’re so pleased to hear that your group enjoyed your stay there! It sounds like you got to spend plenty of quality time enjoying Asheville and hiking in the area. You've made some good points about the perks of staying in a vacation rental v/s a hotel: a kitchen to make your own meals in, a private hot tub and pool table for entertainment, enjoying the true mountain experience, and, best of all, having all four dogs on vacation with you! Thank you for giving us a head's up on updating a few things, we're going to take care of these issues right away. We hope you'll call Carolina Mornings when you're looking for your next mountain vacation cabin. We hope to hear from you again soon! – The Carolina Mornings Team

My husband and I, along with two other couples, stayed at Red Wolf for a birthday celebration weekend. It was absolutely wonderful. The views are gorgeous from the main room. Everything was clean and well maintained. It is definitely secluded, it's a good winding drive up the mountain to get to the cabin! We loved it though, it was quite an adventure! We would definitely return to Red Wolf or try another Carolina Mornings cabin.

The home was beautiful, quite spacious, and well stocked with everything we needed. It was close enough to asheville to go whenever we wanted, but far enough to make us feel like we were away. My fiance was home from afghanistan on leave when we stayed there, so it was a great break for him and we both carry with us very good memories of dinner at the kitchen table, watching the sunset, having coffee rocking on the porch, and many, many more. We will definately be back!

We absolutely loved our week at Red Wolf. It was the perfect spot for enjoying family & vacationing with our dogs. Not only was the cabin perfect for reading & relaxing, but the mountain neighborhood was great for hiking with our dogs. We loved the neighborhood welcoming committee of Lucy & Bear (dogs). Carolina Mornings staff were very helpful with recommending a doggie daycare & booking a massage. We'll definitely be back.

Great mini-vacation for our family! The Red Wolf was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Pool table and hot tub provided entertainment for the entire family. The Red Wolf is also pet friendly (we brought one small dog with us). Location was excellent for visiting nearby ashville, Chimney Mountain, waterfalls, and great family dining areas. We visited during the long Memorial Day weekend. Red Wolf sits way up the mountain so the scenery is beautiful. The road leading up to the cabin was steep and curvy but we had no problems this time of the year.

Red Wolf was a luxurious mountain retreat on a mountain. The ride up to the resort is indicative that you are no longer in the city. It is quiet pritine and surrounded by nature. I would like to see and visit in the winter - I'm sure with the foilage down the view is spectacular. The accomodations were luxurious yet rustic - it was comfortable and spacious. A great experience for a family or couple to relax or re-energize. The ride up the mountain is not convenient and their is no long view in the summer.

Left on 05/20/2011 for a stay in November 2010

This was our first vacation rental. Our family of four went and we had plenty of room. Our kids loved upstairs in the loft and the hot tub was great for chilly fall evenings. The house is well stocked for cooking in. There are board games, books and videos available. It may be about 30 minutes to ashville, but it was definitely worth staying in that area for the quiet mountain experience and very nice cabin. We would return here again if we had the opportunity. We also had a Chevy Impala and had no problem getting up the mountain. The last 2 miles or so are not paved, and our GPS device could guide us close enough to find the house.

The Bed was very Hard, noisy and uncomfortable. The Shower was very small, didn't have good pressure and did not drain well. The floors were very sqeeky and you could every sound around. There were two large dogs that hung around making it difficult for us to even go outside with our dog. The Cabin needs a dishwasher and a gas grill. The TV remotes also did not work well.

We are so sorry to hear your stay was disappointing. Even though we do our best to make sure all your needs are fulfilled, often times our accommodations are not exactly what our guests were looking for. We appreciate your feedback, and please let us know (for future visits) if you have any problems during your stay so we can remedy the situation right away and not after you leave.

We checked and the beds in Red Wolf are in good condition, but if you require softer bedding we have other properties to fill this request. The downstairs shower is standard size, but there is a larger shower upstairs if you need the extra room. The low water pressure is from two guests using the showers at the same time, which is common in higher altitude mountain cabins. Additionally, there are many benefits and drawbacks to the open, airy spaces found in Red Wolf and unfortunately, the open floor plan does allow sound to transmit easily through the floor. We are sorry to hear about the two dogs hanging around the property and bothering you! There do tend to be dogs running free in the mountains, but usually if you keep your dog on a leash there should be no problems. Thanks for letting us know about the TV remotes and the slow drainage in the shower – we will alert our maintenance staff and have these fixed as soon as possible. Furthermore, there is a park grill available on the property instead of a gas grill, and we try to make this clear on our website to avoid misunderstandings. Next time, please let us know what amenities are important to you and we will help you find a property that suits all your needs. We hope you will visit us again, as we have many properties available that are a much better fit so you can have a better experience overall.

no good way to get down off the mountain to ashville

Left on 11/04/2010 for a stay in August 2010

the cabin itself is good value, but the downstairs bedroom hears all the movement from the upstairs bedroom. One couple ended up moving to the basement due to sound carrying issues. The biggest detractor from our stay was that the description says it is much closer to asheville than in fact it is, especially since it is hard to find a good predictable way down and getting lost takes lots of time. No maps in cabin of how to get down mountain to ashville. we planned to spend more time in asheville but just gave up. frustrating ...

We are sorry to hear that you were hearing too much during your stay at Red Wolf!! These open, airy spaces provide many benefits and some drawbacks, as it seems most layouts do. We are also sorry to hear that you struggled during the drive; we do point out on the site that although the mileage into town is low and the roads are well- maintained, it takes longer due to the steep and curvy mountain drive. We have also spent some time finding the most tried and true way down the mountain and we send these directions to you before you leave for your trip, so you don't have to question how to navigate the beautiful mountains. We do hope you visit us again, as we have many properties available, some closer to town without the mountain drive!

My husband and I enjoyed our week at Red Wolf. It is in a secluded area so our visit was quite relaxing. It does take a while to get anywhere since it is about 15 minutes off the main road, however we enjoyed being back in the woods. We had several family members stay with us at different times during the week and the only drawback was that there is no bathroom in the basement which is difficult when you have guests staying in the basement bedroom. Also, I didn't realize that there was no dishwasher. I didn't really check the web page for a dishwasher because I guess I just assumed there would be one. Regardless, our week was very enjoyable and we would definitely rent there again as long as it is just the two of us or only two other guests that could use the loft room and not the basement since the loft room has a bathroom.

We had a great Christmas at Red Wolf...the Carolina Mornings staff was always
available to answer our questions prior to our arrival and they called to check
on us once we arrived. The home was beautiful and very Christmas-cozy with
the fireplace. We did have an issue with a roof-leak, but the weather was
abnormally icy, and the Carolina mornings team had a plan right away when
we called to let them know. We also liked being on the mountain but would
advise you looking into what kinds of hikes you might like to do before you get
there. The best hikes, in our opinion, are a 30+ minute drive away and it took
us awhile to get that sorted out. Check out Pisgah Forest...the Looking Glass
hike. I would go back to Red Wolf for another vacation.

We really enjoy our stay at the Red Wolf.
My sugguestions for improvement would be to have a bathroom in the basement and a room airconditioner in the upstairs. Even in the winter it is way to hot upstairs.

I would also warn people about lose dogs that bother you while you are walking on the road, that was disapointing.

There needs to be a DVD player in the living room.

The kitchen was nice as well as the rest of the living areas.

Thank you for sharing about your Thanksgiving experience! At Carolina Mornings, we do appreciate all of the feedback and suggestions that our guests have regarding our properties, so thank you for letting us know. We will pass your suggestions on to the owner regarding the air conditioner and DVD player. There do tend to be dogs able to run free in the mountains, and we are sorry to hear that they were bothering you! Please give us a call the next time you will be visiting Asheville and we can help guide you in the direction of a property more fitting!

The Red Wolf was a true diamond in the rough. The cabin was a pleasure to enjoy all it was able to offer. I THINK THE STAFF AT CAROLINA MORNINGS DID A FINE JOB...OTHER THAN ITS DICLOUSURE TO HOW REMOTE THE CABIN IS. The other suggestion would be a second refrigerator, with trips to town being a bit far...it made shopping for a weeks stay difficult. Future geust should be aware of the neighbors dogs being free to come onto the property it made having you're own dog uncomfortable when walking around property on a leash. The Red Wolf in itself was very nice.

Thank you for your candid review and we are happy to know you enjoyed your stay.
We apologize for our team not clearly conveying the location of Red Wolf. Red Wolf is located about 25 minutes from Asheville and of those 25 minutes, it takes 10 minutes to go up/down the mountain. The road is serpentine like and certainly gives you the experience of being in the mountains rather than in town where the roads are flat. We would describe this property as private, because there are other homes in this mountain "neighborhood". We use "secluded" if there are no other homes nearby.
Thanks for the tip about the refrigerator.
Yes, there is a sweet neighborhood dog who enjoys welcoming our guests to the cabin. It is her way of sharing her mountain southern hospitality.

      Dream Vacation

Left on 01/21/2010 for a stay in October 2009

Our journey started out with a winding mountain road which led us to this beautiful, very private Cabin retreat. Upon arriving everthing was immaculate. It was chilly about 32 degrees on some of the days that we were there , so we really enjoyed curling up to the Fireplace nightly, and enjoying the Hot Tub too. The elevation was great and the Fall leaf colors had already started, which was very romantic sitting out on the wrap around porch and watching the leaves fall. You are up in the tree tops which made a breezy peaceful sound perfect for relaxing and forgetting all your stress. You will enjoy your stay. We did.

      Great, relaxing stay

Left on 11/04/2009 for a stay in September 2009

Red wolf was very welcoming and the cabin had everything that we needed. The gas fireplace made everything so cozy and the hot tub was a great perk! Loved the privacy, and the area. The drive to the cabin was quite an event, especially at night! Saw a black bear on the way out our last day - a juvenile. I would give it 5 stars except that the hot tub had too much chlorine in it. House was clean and in good order when we arrived. Thanks for a great visit!

Well kept house. Comfortable, with nice furnishings and appliances.
Deck is very nice with wooded view.
The drive up the mountain may be dicey in inclimate weather, but careful
planning can keep commutes to a minimum.
Friendly neigborhood dog was a bonus.

Left on 03/10/2009 for a stay in February 2009

My friends and I thoroughly enjoed our stay at the cabin. It was spacious, well kept, and really beautiful. The amenities were spot on and the view was really nice from the balcony. We liked it so much we really didn't leave the cabin much; though eventually we made out way into Asheville, which was an easy drive. It snowed our last day and that topped off an amazing vacation. It was the last big hurrah for a friend of mine who was leaving town, and Red Wolf was a really good choice to send her out in style. I would love to stay there again.

      Scenic mountain getaway

Left on 02/17/2009 for a stay in January 2009

Red Wolf was a great mountain getaway. The long, windy road leading to the cabin made us seem as though we'd never arrive, yet gave the great sense of escaping into nature. The views were spectacular, and the fire was perfect for snuggling up to with a good book.

I would say the accomodations (furnishings, appliances, etc.) were very adequate...not overly luxurious but comfortable. The hot tub and pool table were great additions. Since we were stayed in January it was too cold to enjoy outdoor walks, but I'm sure would be great on warmer days.

If you're looking for quick access to Asheville or other larger towns, this is probably not you choice as it's a bit of a jaunt just to get down the mountain and find the nearest restaurant. But, if you want the feeling out 'getting away from it all', this is a nice choice.

This cabin is a great place to stay for a relaxing vacation. It is way up in the mountains, but still close enough to go to Asheville for an afternoon. There is an extremely friendly dog that visited us during our stay. The view is beautiful and the accommodations are very nice. I would highly recommend this cabin. My family and I will definitely be back to visit.

This cabin is certainly "off the beaten path". We enjoyed its tranquility. Fortunately, we were there mid-week so the homes nearby didn't seem to be occupied. The nearest home was closer than I had expected.
The home is very comfortable! Wonderful deck! The downstairs is being finished off - is a nice addition if a larger party wants to stay there! We enjoyed walking around the area - including the friendly "red dog".

10 Year Anniversary At Red Wolf

Left on 09/04/2008 for a stay in July 2008

My husband and I spent our 10 year anniversary at this wonderful cabin. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the pool table, and hot tub. I can not say enough nice things about this little slice of paradise - it was so hard to leave. It's just a short distance from restaurants, and activities (like the Biltmore House, and the Blue Ridge Parkway). We loved the peaceful mornings and evenings on the deck, and sharing our left overs with the neighborhood "red dog".
Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home, we will definitely be back.

      Glorious Honeymoon!

Left on 07/02/2008 for a stay in June 2008

My new husband and I spent four wonderful nights at the beautiful Red Wolf Cabin. It was immaculate, prettier than the web pictures even indicated, and very private. I would recommend that other renters bring a lighter or matches as there was a brief (couple hours) power outage; while there were plenty of candles, we were unable to locate anything with which to light them. The # to call (we got perfect cell phone reception) in case of a power outage is in the binder on the table in the living room and the staff was very helpful when I called about the power outage, even calling back later to check on us and make sure the power came back on at the time the power company had stated it would be. Also, as the information suggests, you might want to bring a flashlight if you plan to arrive after dark. There is an outdoor light that stays on, though. The hot tub was such a treat! Look out for the sweet little swing behind the property; we almost didn't see it. Careful in the shower--if the water pressure starts sounding funny, the shower head will pop off and clonk you on the noggin.

Two recommendations for businesses: 1) I highly recommend a delightful restaurant in downtown Asheville, The Laughing Seed. 2) Ten Thousand Villages, a store that is close to the Laughing Seed and sells lots of "fair trade" gift items. 3) Another little treasure was Troyer's Country Amish Blatz (828.280.2381), a sweet Amish store that sells great deli-type (and other kinds) of food, furniture, knick-knacks, and lots of other items that we purchased as gifts. It is very close to Red Wolf Cabin (highway 74A to Old Fort Road, then up 1.5 miles). It is open M-F from 8-6, Sat. 8-5, and is closed Sundays. It is about 15 minutes from Red Wolf to Troyer's and there is a small sign on 74 A that you might miss if you're not looking for it. One of the owners, Phil Troyer, was working the day we stopped by and was such a helpful gentleman.

You will love Red Wolf Cabin!

      Fabulous for pets and relaxing!

Left on 05/19/2008 for a stay in March 2008

We had a fabulous time at the Red Wolfe Cabin. The view during March is wonderful, as the trees aren't in bloom yet, so the mountains can still be seen. The deck is very big and also gated at the stairs to allow pets to wander on the deck without getting lost in the moutains (other resident dogs are loose in the mountains and the gate kept everyone separate). The open concept of the cabin and enormous windows allowed lots of light in and gave a wondeful view whether inside or outside. The main bedroom and ensuite were great and the additional bedrooms upstairs and eventually downstairs gave everyone lots of room, when needed.

The proximity of this cabin to attractions in Asheville and Fletcher was great. The drive (once we finally got to the bottom of the moutain - about 10 minutes) to groceries, hiking, the Biltmore Estate, etc. didn't take long at all.

I highly recommend a cabin vacation. This was the first time we had ever rented something like this and it was definitely unique. The Carolina Mornings company has excellent customer service and was always available to answer all of my questions.

      A Wonderful Week

Left on 05/18/2008 for a stay in November 2007

We had a most enjoyable week in the mountains in Red Wolf Cabin. My wife took her quilting and I took my books and we relaxed to the max. The cabin is wonderfully situated with plenty of seclusion. The week started warm and we used the huge front deck to read and relax on. But the weather soon turned chilly and the fire place kept us toasty as well as being romantic. The end of the week brought snow and the woods and surrounding area was so beautiful. Being from the coast where we get little snow, it was a treat.
Even our dog Jake had a great time. The neighborhood dogs are all freindly and seem to be out patroling to keep the place safe.
We have used Carolina Mornings for our cabin rentals and all the places have been special and all have been better than our expections. I would highly recommend Red Wolf to anyone who just wants to get away from it all, but still have satellite TV if you have to be in touch.

The cabin was incredible and far better than the pictures. We had all the ammenities we needed and thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and the fireplace in the cold mountain evenings.

      Lovely cabin

Left on 05/01/2008 for a stay in February 2008

My husband and I, along with another couple, rented this cabin for a weekend. The idea was to have privacy and quiet and peacefulness. This cabin is beautiful and very much away from the hustle and bustle of the world. The views are gorgeous. However, we all discovered that sound traveled EVERYWHERE in that cabin! We slept in the loft bedroom and you could hear everything going on down in the bottom level where the pool table was, everything in the main living area, everything in the other bedrooms and bathrooms, making it anything but private....and somewhat awkward. Also, it would have been nice if there was a TV in the upstairs loft bedroom. If I were going to rent that particular cabin again, I'd only want to rent it as a couple. The cabin is advertised as being large enough for a group of about 6, but believe me, considering the way sound carried in that cabin, it would be very uncomfortable for all.
