The apartment is located on Via dei Serragli, on the Oltrarno side of Florence and is just a short 10 minute walk from the Pontevecchio, Pitti Palace, Duomo, Piazza Signoria, the Uffizi Gallery and much more. The Oltrarno is characterized by narrow cobble-stone streets, traditional artisan workshops, antique shops and jewellers and not to mention many local cafes, typical Tuscan restaurants, grocery stores and souvenir shops and museums. The area is full of character and history and in the nearby Santo Spirito square there is a daily market that sells a range of fresh groceries.

The apartment is located within the ZTL zone so this means that if you are thinking of coming to Florence by car and wish to drive around and park, then you will need to pay extremely special attention to the road signs in order not to get fined by the police. Excluded from the price: utility bills for rentals over 60 days (charges based on meter readings); contract registration fee for rentals over 30 days. The contract is in Italian and the fee is equal to 1% of the total rental price (with the minimum fee being 33,50β¬) plus 30,00β¬ for revenue stamps.
Security Deposit:

My family of four stayed in the Boccaccio apartment for four nights at the end of May. The apartment itself is quite spacious, with beautiful high wood-beamed ceilings.
The location in Oltrano is excellent. It's just a short walk across the bridge to the old town and there are many cafes and restaurants nearby.
While the apartment itself may look fairly posh in photos, the reality is more of a time-worn elegance. The furniture is older and worn, the carpets quite stained, and the whole place could use a fresh coat of paint -- especially the kitchen. But the kitchen was otherwise clean, as was the bathroom.
The kitchen itself is teeny tiny, but equipped with the basics and completely functional if not excessively comfortable for hard-core cooking. But who wants to do a lot of cooking on vacation anyway? :-)
The one bathroom is also fine, though again, small. You kind of have to wedge yourself into the shower stall, and my 6-foot four husband had an interesting time, but it's serviceable.
One other thing to be aware of is the noise. The street the Palazzo is on is quite busy and the noise reverberates, especially with the windows open.
We enjoyed our stay at Boccaccio, but I'm not sure we wouldn't look for something more well-maintained for the price. However, the Palazzo itself is gorgeous, and the quirky, teeny triangular elevator was a source of endless entertainment for our kids.Response from Windows on Italy - 05/03/2013

The apartment was beautiful and excellent location. The city experience was completely different than staying in a Hotel. It gives much more freedom when traveling with children mainly because of the comfort and amenities that the apartment offers. We felt almost like locals, everything was close but still not in a touristy area. We would plan our next vacation to Italy the same way and would definitely do it with Windows of Italy again, excellent service from beginning to end.

It was wonderful staying at the Boccaccio apartment. I was there from august through December and enjoyed every minute of it. The apartment was most comfortable and very conveniently located. It was quiet and very well maintained. The management of the Boccaccio was wonderful. I would highly recommend this apartment-It was great!

This has been the trip of a lifetime. I wanted to experience living in Europe. Lucky me to have found this city and neighborhood. The apartment is very comfortable, tastefully decorated and fully equipped. There are great places to eat just out the door; Santo Bevitore, Garbo, Olio & Convivium; five minutes to Quattro Leone. I wake to church bells. The shopping is great and the people, so friendly! Have also located: a good haircut, nail salon, massage spa, shipping company, art supplies, jeweler, yoga, group meditation and a used bicycle (with guaranteed good karma!). Classes: mask-making, bookbinding, cooking. Most of these, in the neighborhood. I have lived meal-to-meal. Luckily, the town is very safe and extremely walkable. The staff has been so helpful! I feel truly embraced. Dare I say "Florentine"?

apartment was in a perfect place, close to all the sights in Florence! nice and clean. we were told no towels or cleaning service. but came home on a monday and found that a maid had been through the house. Not a big deal, but would have liked a warning! Other than that, we were left alone to enjoy our stay! had everything we needed.

We received a friendly reception and the apartment was just as beautiful as expected. The location is pretty much perfect being close to the historic heart of the city but not too close. Great restaurants and boutiques in the immediate vicinity. We didn't feel like tourists staying here....
Traffic was a bit noisy on weekday mornings, but we weren't there to sleep....

We actually stayed in the Boccaccio apartment for 4 months as part of a mid-life career pause trip to Italy. We arrived on or about the 5th of Sept and returned to the States in January 2008.
We were expecting something modest and functional but were very surprised that in addition, it was stylishly decorated and extremely comfortable. It was a perfect place for an extended trip with plenty of room for stashing luggage and storing clothes, etc.
We took a number of long weekend trips throughout Italy and Austria and always looked forward to returning to our "home." (la casa nostra).
We loved the Oltrarno location and will be first in line to reserve this apartment for our next trip.

We have rented numerous apartments in Italy, over several years. This is the best so far. The description of the apartment on the website is accurate. Location is fabulous; charming area on Left Bank of Arno but just a pleasant short walk right into the centre. We are food junkies...there were plently of food outlets (bakeries, supermarkets etc) in the immediate vicinity and cooking facilities were adequate. Everything in the apartment worked and was very clean. Having Windows on Italy office next door was an advantage.

Boccaccio is a very comfortable yet elegant apartment located in a stately palazzo. The neighborhood (San Frediano;the Oltrarno) is wonderful, residential and away from the tourist hordes yet still close to everything. It was jsut right for us.
