      Eden Found

Left on 05/08/2013 for a stay in May 2013

We stayed for a week in the Chalet/Treehouse. You need to experience what a special, private Eden this is to really appreciate its' beauty. The pictures don't do the property justice. The grandness of the vegetation is astonishing. We felt like we were in Costa Rica. There is a virtual canopy of massive green leaves and palms hovering overhead. The chalet was absolutely perfect. It was clean, the bed so comfortable and the shower was really powerful, big and super clean. The owner was available at all times via phone. The location of the property was such a luxury. I walked to the beach one day (a healthy walk) and we could stroll to Las Olas no problem. We loved the beach chairs and beach towels too, very convenient. The labyrinth of a walkway that takes you to the Chalet was such a charming treat every time we walked it. We also loved the private driveway. We've learned, in previous Ft. Lauderdale stays, that parking is a huge problem and very costly ($28.00 a day at most hotels). We've always stayed at upscale hotels. Well, no more! We'll be returning, yearly, to this special place we call Eden.

      Very nice house

Left on 04/18/2013 for a stay in April 2013

The place is very nice. 2 nice bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, very practical. The location is great as well, very close to everything. Being a party of 5, the house is big enough and has enough space for everyone so that it never felt overcrowded.
It was nice being able to sit in the patio, hearing the water from the fountain, it was nice and cool during the hot days.
On the cons side, the bed in the elephant room was very uncomfortable, there is a hole in the middle of the mattress where you sink in and the bed squeaks loudly every time you move. Re cleanliness, the toilet boil wasn't very clean, obviously the keeper forgot to fully clean the inside of it. The house rules state that you must take off your shoes in the house, which we were all very keen on doing, but our feet got so dirty that we had to walk in the house with our shoes. Otherwise, everything was very clean.
Larry is very friendly and we were kindly welcomed when we arrived. He also was very helpful during our stay, giving us tips and letting us stay beyond checkout time on our last time.

      Great Value

Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in July 2012

My husband and I (along with our two babies) stayed in the 1/1 Chalet recently. We had a very good experience. Before arriving, the owner was very thorough with the reservation process, making me secure that the great deal wasn't a scam! We arrived to a lushly landscaped home behind which was a cutely decorated apartment. It was equipped with pots, dishes, linens, and even beach chairs. The Victoria Park location is convenient for both shopping and beach going. The apartment was clean and comfortable and I would rent it again.

Such a Shame the Thieves Broke in

Left on 11/16/2011 for a stay in October 2011

The house is a peaceful, secluded haven in a nice, well located neighbourhood that offers the visitor almost every facility they need.

Sadly it is known as rental property and the comings and goings of people are clearly watched by thieves.

During the very first full day of our stay the home was broken into and much of our computer hardware was stolen and our personal belongings were rifled through.

Not only did this leave a nasty taste in our mouths we always felt unsafe especially when leaving the property throughout remaining duration of our stay.

We lived with the constant fear that once again we were being watched and that when we returned the same thing would have happened.

We have subsequently been advised that the insurance policy covering the home covers only the home owners belongings and does not cover any property belonging to the renter.

The local police criticised the poor security in particular the glass panels close to the door handles to the front and back doors.

The police also told us they believe that the lush landscape interferes with the security of the house hiding it from the road.

There appeared to be an installed burglar alarm system with exterior signage suggesting the home was protected and guarded by a well known security company but, if the alarm system worked at all, we were not shown how to use it and if the security company ever patrolled the area they were never seen by us.

Despite our need to regularly visit Fort Lauderdale we are not be able to recommend this property as a safe and secure place to stay to anyone else.

We will not return here ourselves when we next visit Fort Lauderdale.
Instead we will return to the apparently safer option of renting accommodation inside secured multi story apartment blocks with guarded access by porters.

Response from Lawrence Kaplan - 12/07/2011

      Lawrence Kaplan

      Owner

The Howorths are lovely jovial people and it is a shame that this crime happened to them...and understandable that they harbor some anger with the circumstances. Its also a SHAME that they chose to reflect that anger in the property score. Random theft can and does happen …even in the nicest of places, neighborhoods, & homes… and even to the nicest of people. If a break-in happens to a rental car…no one blames the car, or the cars windows, or the car rental company. In Mr Howorths own words, “The house is a peaceful, secluded haven in a nice, well located neighbourhood that offers the visitor almost every facility they need” Clearly, over the 4 years of positive reviews on the property, no incident has ever occurred and this was an isolated one. Everything possible was done to respond immediately to their needs…including speaking directly to the chief of police and the mayor. SO in conclusion I am unsure why this event resulted in low scores for cleanliness, hospitality, or overall quality of the property?

Larry was also a good host and kind enough to let us check-in almost in the middle of the night. Highly recommended!

What I found was exactly how the Zen chalet was described on the website. The gardens were beautiful and peaceful and the chalet was cosy and very well equipped. Its in a great location for the shops, the beach is walkable although the bike makes it very easy. The arrival and spa packs were a great surprise and made it feel like a real home from home.

Larry, the owner, was very helpful through the booking and checking in process, clearly caring for his properties.

The chalet is perfect for couples and the nearby cottage which shares the grounds would be perfect for larger groups.

Delightful "treehouse chalet" in the charming Fort Lauderdale neighborhood of Victoria Park. Close to Las Olas shopping, Fort Lauderdale Beach, Galleria Mall and downtown Fort Lauderdale. The apartment is a second floor walk up behind an equally charming house (also part of the property) and secluded behind tropical foliage with sitting areas by a fountain and small pond. The property has been tastefully decorated and features a full modern kitchen, flat screen tv in the living area, and wireless internet. The bedroom has a comfortable queen bed and full walk-in closet. The bathroom has a tub with a shower and needs updating, but is fully functional. Larry, the owner, is very accommodating and checked in with us several times to make sure that everything was satisfactory. This is a great and inexpensive alternative to an impersonal hotel room, especially if you are staying a week and want some time to relax in a home away from home.

The kitchen was excellant. Enjoyed strolling the neighborhood and if you like a quiet beach go on a weekday it was packed on Saturday. The restaurants in the area we visited was Latin and German and loved them. Hope to visit again sometime and would recommend it my friends.

The outside space is peaceful and has a waterfall surrounded by a beautiful Indonesian garden, and wonderful lighting. The beautiful walkways allow for tropical exploration. The spacious modern kitchen has all the amenities necessary for entertaining. The bedrooms are a therapeutic experience in themselves: double-spout shower at either end with stone flooring, a sun roof that allows you to become one with nature, and lots of sun. Amazing Oasis in great location

Left on 05/27/2009 for a stay in May 2009

I chose to stay at the Victoria Cottage because I thought the photos looked nice and was looking for an affordable vacation in Fort Lauderdale. I was blown away with how nice the place is on the inside and out.

There is complex artwork on the walls. I do not mean hanging on the walls, the art is painted right in. The attention to detail and creative design make the whole place feel like an art exhibit.

The furniture and beds were really comfortable. I have stayed in other rentals where they get the cheapest stuff they can find. That was far from the case here. The kitchen is upscale and there is a screened in porch area which is where my family ate most of our meals.

The big highlight of the cottage was the property. When they call it an oasis, they are not kidding. It is very well kept with tons of palms and other tropical foliage. It reminded me of staying in a fancy Caribbean resort with the pond, bridge, fire pit, etc... For being in the middle of a neighborhood, it felt very private and secluded.
