We had a 2 bedroom condo and could see the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortuntaly, the weather was usually cold plus one day/evening we had tornado warning (can't remembar if it was also watch) at several times. As far as your review guidelines go, here are our responses):
---Service received: it was nice to have "a day's" supply of things so we could immdiately begin "staying there".
---The home was very comfortable and well laid out. Unfortunately, the TV remotes didn't operate very well. We had to turn the TV on ourselves, and sometimes even needed to change stations ourselves. This made our stay quite uncomfortable; since the weather was bad we stayed inside most of the time.
---The location was great for watching the Gulf, hard to walk to (even if not handicapped as one of us was). It was nice to have parking stickers to use for our cars. other amenities were already discussed in the first section of this memo.
---This was our first stay at any condo. What we liked is the floor plan and it overlooking the beach and Gulf, also the quietness. Tv remotes, the long walk from elevator to condo, and not receiving any comments on how we left the unit (i.e. do we get any of our cleaning fee returned) were definitely downers. The little things (TV remotes and walk from elevator to condo) are just as important as the medium-greater things. Since this was our first time renting a condo, it is hard to respond to your questions since we have nothing to compare it to)Also, what does "servie" mean?
We would like a response to the above information. -

Our stay was very accommodating. It was conveniently located. We had a wide variety of things to do. The key code as opposed to keys, was great.

Great stay, the room location was great. Its a short walk to elevators that come out right at the pool and just a few steps to the boardwalk out to the beach and the views were great. The only issue that we had was cleaniliness, there was mold all over the master bath shower including alot of mold growing on the ceiling of the shower. There was also some mold on the ceiling of the other bathroom.

Great vacation. This was our second time to stay in the same condo at Destin West. Love it!! Great location, great pool, great extras (like 10ft pool next door and lazy river across the street). Looking forward to next time!!

Our room faced the beach which was wonderful. The pools are all great - a nice variety. We loved having our own chairs and umbrella reserved for us on the beach every day. We had two families totally 7 people and it worked out well. Management responded quickly when we had a broken door and missing pool bands. Since it was spring break, there were a lot of teens around - which was great since we were there with our own teenagers. They had a great time.

There were several things wrong with the condo. It was not very clean. There were 6 light bulbs not working when we checked in. The blender didn't work. And the Televisions were at least 10 years old and not video game compatable. The code on the door was changed before we were even expected to be out!!! We were compensated for our troubles so we were please with how accomadating the staff was. They agreed with our concerns and were nice.

Thank you for a great vacation experience! We have stayed at Destin West resort before, but your oceanfront unit is perfect. Not only does it have the most amazing view of the gulf, but it is central to the large pool and fitness center. The 2 bedrooms plus bunk are ample to sleep 2 families. The kitchen was well stocked and clean. What more could you ask for? This one has the view and the amenities! Highly recommended for families with young children (bunk area is large and open - not a closet), and it is also great for the young at heart. Convenient to Destin or the Ft. Walton Okaloosa Island Pier for great dining or cook in your full stocked kitchen.

ideal location just outside of Destin on the Beach,clean pools and lazy river. I Would recommend this unit. The only complaint is that the washer was not great but it worked, one had to hold the lid down on spin cycle for a few seconds to allow it to continue.

Not sure what to expect due to the oil spill we were amazed by the property and beaches. The pictures of this condo don't do it justice. This is an amazing condo with great views. Will rent again next year.

We were in Ft. Walton beach for vacation the week before my son's wedding. The check in was great, but I can't say the same for check out.It stated on our paperwork that check out was at 10:00 am. We packed everything up and left it in the hall so that we could take our daughter and her baby to the airport. We got back to load the car at 9:50 and the code on the door had already been changed. All of my paperwork was inside, so it took me a few minutes to find a number to call so that we could get back inside.
The condo was nice, but when we pulled the sofa bed out, there was food, bugs, and trash underneath. It was gross. When you pay as much as we did for a place, it should be clean. What you could see looked clean, but I can't say the same for those hidden spots.
As for the supplies, there were 8 people in this unit, and we had two very small bars of soap in the bathrooms that had to last 6 days. In the kitchen, there was dishwashing detergent to run the dishwasher twice. I'm sorry but with that many people, two times in six days just did not get it. And there were no extra trash bags for the kitchen...only the one that was in the can when we got there. The coffee pot did not fit onto the warmer correctly, so the coffee went all over the place when the first time we used it.
We rented this place about three months before our vacation, and looked forward to a wonderful trip. Our brother and his family waited until the last minute and got a place about a mile from us at half price that had everything they needed...and everything worked! It was a nice place, but definately needs some improvements. -

This unit is in a great location, has a beautiful view. Very convenient to the beach and pools. It really needs maintenance. Light bulbs missing and blown, towel rack broken and gone, furniture quite worn. Check in was great.

This condo was everything the pictures and description indicated. The owner John was great to work with as was Dale E. Peterson Vacations. We have 4 kids (ages 13 - 6). This condo, being on the ocean, was perfect for us. The other option was across 98 near the lazy river. We chose the ocean because you typically have more stuff to lug to the ocean (chairs, toys, etc)than to a pool (just a towel). This condo is quiet (far away from traffic noise along 98). Work out room just below. The 5 pools and lazy river were great. Kids loved the variety of ocean and pools. Kids can be in hot tubs which was great too. We bought food at Publix (3 min drive) to fill our fridge for the week. Very economical place to shop. No complaints!

We just wanted to register a complaint. We have stayed at Destin West several times. We even stayed in 301 two years ago.
We will not be returning to this unit. It is run down and the furniture looks worn out, tables chipped, etc. There was no working remote for the television in the living room which was beyond aggravating.
There were light bulbs burned out in almost every room.
The fan in the guest bedroom shook so badly when running we were concerned to even run it, so did without it at night therefore making the small room very stuffy.
We were very disappointed in the unit. With the costs so high, we feel we can do much better somewhere else.

We appreciate you reporting the maintenance issues and are glad that we were are able to rectify the problems by installing new light bulbs, replaced the batteries for the remotes, and reprogramming them to their respective TVs. We also rebalanced the fan in the master bedroom and apologize for the aggravation it might have caused. In addition, I personally visited the unit after you brought to my attention that the furniture was in disrepair and potentially not representative of Dale E Peterson Vacations high standard of quality. I did find some very minor scratches, and 2 missing dresser knobs that we were grateful to have an opportunity to take care of right away. I hope that Dale E Peterson Vacations will have a another chance to exceed your expectations on a future visit to Florida’s Emerald Coast.

We really enjoyed our stay. The condo was clean,well kept and pretty. This was my family's first trip to Florida and we really enjoyed the beach then coming back to a nice home to relax in. The beds were really comfortable! If we are able to return for another vacation we will try to rent this again!

You can't beat this location and amenitites. You get the amazing emerald coast beaches on one side, and the playful lazy river and heated pools on the other side. A short walk down the beach is the Boardwalk which has fun gift shops and beachside dining. A trolley ride away will take you to Destin Harbor where you can fine more dining options as well as dolphin cruises and fishing excursions. I recommend you try to get a gulf side unit for that awesome view every morning. The only down side is if you're used to luxury, this is not luxurious but definitely 3.5 stars- the amenitities make it a near 5. Also, the sliding glass door has a four-inch lip from the floor. This proved to be hazardous and takes complete conscious effort to walk over it when going to and from the balcony. My son actually was eating an ice cream cone and tripped over it, sending his cone in all directions. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt badly, but that was a concern. Other than that, a great place to stay.

Destin West #301 Gulfside was beautiful. The views were spectacular. Accommodations for 8 people were very comfortable. It was within walking distance to resaurants and entertainment.

Let me start by saying we LOVE the Destin area as a vacation destination for our family. We have a 6 month old and a 2 year old, so fancy or complicated vacations are out of the question. Destin West Gulfside is great because you are just a few steps from the beach (which is beautifully maintained) and then you also have access to the lazy river on the Bay side which has great pools, very shallow water and the super fun lazy river. The babies ride on our tummies as we float in the innertubes. SO FUN!
I do have to say though, we were very dissappointed with the condition of our rental unit. We rented the end unit - one of the largest in the complex with amazing views of the Gulf, a wrap around balcony and lots of space. However, the place was filthy. The glass top table had been broken on the patio and glass was all over the patio and some in the living room (not good for crawling babies) The silverware (in the DRAWERS) had food crusted all over it to the point that I spent the first hour of the vacation cleaning things up and boiling the silverware. disgusting. there was sand in our linens, the phone cords had been ripped out of the phones, the blinds in the master were ripped, etc. NOT IMPRESSED.
The condo managers responded promptly and fixed what they could fix and they gave us a discount on the room I think. Not a big discount, but something. It was annoying.
I would give the location and ammenities five stars, the layout and view from our unit 5 stars, but the condition upon arrival was about a 2... and that is being generous. Take it for what it is worth! If you go to Destin - be sure to eat at the Old Bay Steamer - it's GREAT.Response from Dale E Peterson Vacations - 03/22/2010

My family has had the best vacations at Destin West in the past 4 years, so this year our daughter got married on the beach in front of our condo at Destin West. It was awesome. Everyone was so wonderful and helpful, and the gulf and sunsets are amazing. It was the best wedding ever, and so relaxing. We had a penthouse on bayside and condo's on the gulfside, so we enjoyed the best of both worlds. Lazy river on Bayside is so relaxing and beautiful. We can't wait to return to Destin West, and bring our new grandchildren. The service our family has recieved has always been great, our condo has always been clean, and ready on time for us. Thank you to all Dale Peterson employees they have always been helpful to us, for a great stay.
