This was our first stay at the Islander. We have stayed at the Majestic Sun every year since its opening but several of the changes in the property led me to start looking elsewhere for our vacation spot. The Islander was the perfect place for us. While the water isn't as pretty or calm as it was at the Majestic, the lack of people made it more than worth it. The condo was beautiful and right on the beach...no walking across the street and trudging up a sandy incline. I do wish they would disallow smoking on the balconies and at the pool as our condo was right over the pool and if we sat on our balcony, the smoke from the pool was very irritating and made sitting on the balcony unpleasant in the evenings. There was much more marine life (dolphins, sting rays) at the Islander which we loved. There is a long stretch of beach that you can walk and see very few people. We could walk out in the morning and choose our beach set up (unlike the Majestic which has changed to a long line outside the beach hut for an assigned chair...Very annoying!) The Islander is located away from all of the hub-bub...it probably isn't for families with teenagers but my two daughters (in their early twenties) loved the quiet and the lack of crowds at the beach. The work out facility is only open during office hours which was inconvenient for my daughter (not me.) There was no street noise...PERFECT. The quiet is what sold us. I don't know if we will be able to go back this year due to the economy but we will certainly go back to the Islander if we do.
