Left on 04/29/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Truly exceptional property in a magnificant setting.A true home from home experience with excellent facilities and lovely attention to detail of the internal furnishings, which were only outdone by the unique bbq which allowed us to have a romantic/enchanting ( midgey free) evening !.
The location of the property allows you to walk out and experience a breathtaking panoramic view of Ben Nevis and the range.
A 10 mins walk at dusk from the cottage allows you very close encounters with deer.
Easy access to all routes allowed us to visit Eilean Donan castle,Isle of Skye and a ferry trip to Mallaig in one day.
The property has plenty of reference material which catered for all tastes wether experienced climber or novice walker. It also had tv,cd,dvd facilities.
The welcome gift of a home made chocolate cake was the start of a very enjoyable week.
The cottage was beautifully furnished, very clean and fully equipped.
Thanks to Jane and family for allowing us the use of But n Ben. Im sure this will not be the last visit.Response from Jane Gray - 05/05/2013

NewcastleA lovely cottage!
Left on 01/04/2013 for a stay in November 2012
My partner and I were very impressed with But'n'Ben, the cottage had everything we needed and more. It is obvious that the owner has a lot of love for the property and has spent time making it look welcoming. The property on arrival was very clean, I almost felt like we were the first inhabitants, it definitely did not feel like there had been occupants who had left on the same day. The owner has been very clever with storage, with little wicker boxes and shelves that will keep all your holiday comforts tidy and out of the way. The kitchen is fully equipt with everything required to cook a substantial meal, we particularly liked the posh coffee cups that we used to enjoyed the odd cheeky whiskey coffee (Scottish whiskey of course!). The BBQ hut definitely lived up to expectation; not only does it have the obvious indoor BBQ facility, but is also fully equipt with crockery and cutlery so there is no need to remove items from the cottage. There is also an iPod dock so a pre-prepared "BBQ Playlist" could really set the mood.
Our holiday was about getting away from busy and demanding jobs so it focused on checking out the local scenary and relaxation, rather than adventure, but for those who are seeking adventure (hiking, rock climbing, cycling etc) there is a secure out house that can be used to store equipment. If you do want to take it easy, I would recommend the local farm shop for a lunch-time treat. Speaking of treats, the homemade chocolate cake was lush and a much appreciated little touch.
Overall, we had a lovely holiday, largely made enjoyable by the But'n'Ben itself.

DoncasterA Highland Gem
Left on 11/04/2012 for a stay in October 2012
This is an absolute gem of a place. A contemporary styled, cosy cottage with absolutely everything you could need for a break away.
Our booking enquiry and any questions we had were answered very quickly and it has been a pleasure to deal with the owner from start to finish.
The outside bbq hut is amazing. We aren't really into bbqs but this is something else. It was lovely and warm even when the snow was on the hills.
The information pack in the cottage was one of the best we have even seen, everything was covered. There are also plenty of books, games , CDs & Dvds available for guests to use.
Many places could be reached quite easily from the cottage and there are a couple of excellent restaurants (if you can leave the bbq hut) within a reasonable distance to the cottage. -

We had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful cottage for 7 days. Everything about it is just perfect and it is a very comfortable base from which to tour the amazing highlands of Scotland. As advertised this cottage is small but perfectly adequate for 2 and is very cosy. The BBQ hut in the garden is just amazing - it is a delight to BBQ no matter what the weather. The BBQ hut (like the cottage) is equipped with everything you will need. All in all a fantastic holiday in a just perfect cottage. We cannot wait to go back.

Birkirkara, MaltaCosy Cottage in the Highlands
Left on 08/21/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Cosy cottage, right on the a82, so both easy to find and in an excellent spot to explore the highlands of Scotland. Fort William, Glennfinnan, Loch Ness, Fort augustus & Inverness all within easy reach. The cottage itself was small but so well equipped, you don't need anything else really! Great reception from the lovely lady living next door, plus a delicious chocolate cake which we ate with gusto. And don't forget the sweetest BBQ hut outside - shaped like a little doll's house, with a super BBQ grill which grills food to perfection.
A real gem of a cottage. Highly recommended.

Excellent!
It was my new husbands and I honeymoon couldn't of asked for a better place to stay! Everything we wanted, needed and didn't even realise we wanted. The BBQ hut was amazing and our personal favourite thing was the bird tables bustling with life, I even asked for a bottle of champagne to be left on the table 8 months previous and they sorted it all out for us. Would recommend to anyone!

ReadingGreat Stay
Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We stayed here at the end of June and had a fantastic stay.
It seems that every last detail has been thought of, so we really felt at home all week. The cottage had all amenities supplied. The BBQ hut was an added and excellent bonus.
The cottage is really well located for expiring the highlands, 12 miles out side of Fort William, on the road to Inverness. Speen Bridge, a mile down the road had a small shop and a few places to eat.
The cottage it's self was nicely decorated and furnished. Although small it seems that everything has been thought of (there is even a washing machine and tubule drier) with out it feeling cluttered. The welcome chocolate cake was quickly demolished while we planned out our weeks stay with all the local guide books and maps that were in the cottage.
All in all a great stay, would defiantly stay again.Response from Jane Gray - 07/19/2012

Really comfortable and well-equipped cottage, with everything of high quality and immaculately kept. Very useful to have all the little housekeeping bits like dishwasher tablets provided, and the option to arrange delivery of a welcome pack from the local farm shop worked really well. Enjoyed the varied range of books/CDs etc, and the chocolate cake more than lived up to its reputation! Location excellent for both local walks and facilities, as well as for a varied range of longer distance trips to explore the Highlands including Skye. Good wi-fi connection and we did actually get fair mobile connectivity most of the time (Vodaphone). Thoroughly enjoyed trying out the barbecue hut, and much appreciated the friendly and efficient organisation and welcome provided by Jane and Jennifer. Definitely one of the nicest places we've stayed at.

We had an absolutely amazing time at the But'n'Ben cottage. The cottage is extremely cosy and very welcoming after a hard slog up Ben Nevis! We were made to feel very welcome and nothing felt like it would be a problem. Jane has thought of every little detail and it really felt like a home from home. The chocolate cake was very much appreciated after a long journey from South Wales and was possibly one of the nicest cakes we have ever tasted. The BBQ hut is amazing and you won't want to leave it. The cottage is perfectly located and easily accessed and has local amenities just a short drive away. Overall a wonderful cottage, perfect hosts and a beautiful location, we would recommend it to anyone.

Left on 11/26/2011 for a stay in November 2011
Our booking of this cottage was based on previous reviews and we are pleased to say that all comments stand true. The cottage is cosy but well equipped. The cottage provided fridge/freezer,diswasher,microwave,
washing machine, dryer, dishes, cutlery, iron board, TV, payphone etc...you would hardly want for any other items. The place was immaculately clean. The BBQ hut is a must experience. The location felt central for easy access to Ben Nevis, Loch Ness and Craignorm. Mobile phone reception was poor but wifi worked well. My only suggestion ( and this is meant as a supportive critique rather than a negative)is for the bedroom windows to have an additional panel of sound proof glass and darker curtains. The cottage sits on the edge of a82 with regular noisy 60mph vehicles with bright lights which interrupts a morning slumber. Otherwise would highly recommend.Response from Jane Gray - 05/06/2012
Owner
Many thanks for your suggestions. This is the first time guests have commented on the road noise and we shall now look at the possibility of secondary glazing in the bedroom. The curtains will also be improved. We do not want anything to spoil our guests holiday.
Secondary glazing and new curtains now fitted. -

Perfect place to stay for walking, cycling and sightseeing in the surrounding area - Great Glen Way, West Highland Way, Nevis Range and coastline towards Mallaig, as well as numerous picturesque lochs. But n Ben is the perfect holiday location for couples wishing to experience the beautiful Scottish Highlands. We spent a week at the cottage in april and were lucky enough to have fantastic weather to explore the surrounding area. The location is brilliant - not far to Fort William, the Nevis Range, Glen Coe, Loch Ness and the road to the Isle of Skye. Perfect for those wishing to experience the outdoors.
The cottage is perfect for two and contains everything you need for a fantastic break. The most delicious chocolate cake awaits you on arrival and fresh eggs are available next door. This cottage has one amazing bonus - the BBQ hut - perfect for a relaxing evening. We would recommend venison burgers and a nice glass of red wine.
A fantastic experience all round and I would and will recommend this place to everyone. We can't wait to return! -

My husband and I spent a wonderful, romantic week at But'n'Ben cottage near Spean Bridge in the Scottish Highlands. The cottage was extremely comfortable and, Jane, the owner went to a great deal of effort to ensure our week was perfect. There was even a freshly baked chocolate cake on our arrival and fresh eggs are available from the hens that roam nearby. The Pièce de résistance however has to be the BBQ hut, which is available for use summer and winter and is great fun.
The surrounding area is very beautiful and there is an extensive range of activities very near the cottage such as walking, mountain biking, fishing etc.
But'n'Ben cottage really is a special place to spend a romantic holiday.

But 'n' Ben is a fantastic cottage for any outdoorsy couples looking for somewhere to retire after days out in the hills. Whilst small, it is immaculately fitted out with absolutely everything you could need in the kitchen, linen and towels provided and a comfy double bed. The adjacent shed is really useful for storing bikes & other gear but in terms of storage space, there is plenty in the main house too. Being on the main road it is easily accessible in all weathers. A great bonus is being able to get fresh eggs from the next door neighbour!

The But 'n' Ben is a brilliant cottage, well located for walks, skiing and sight seeing in the Highlands. We've been there twice now as the cottage is superb! It is extremely well equipt, very clean and has outstanding information for visitors and a very warm welcome on your arrival. Last time we went we'd driven for ten hours from Hampshire and arrived to a warm cottage and a delicious chocolate cake!

We stayed in this cottage for a week in 2010 and had a wonderful time. From the greeting of a chocolate cake to the fresh eggs from the neighbour it was just what was needed to escape the hustle of London.
It's very well placed, somewhere half way between Loch Ness and Fort William and easy to get to both, as well as Ben Nevis and the likes of the Isle of Rum and Egg we were able to comfortably do in day trips.
The Finnish barbeque is a nice touch too!

We were welcomed warmly when we arrived, and found the cottage extremely well appointed and comfortable. It's easy to find and very well placed for loads of outdoor activities. My wife and I stayed here in May 2009, the cottage is very well appointed and clean. Wonderful BBQ even in the wet! Even Ben Nevis appeared from the mist on our last day. You need to be into walking and other energetic activities as there is not a lot of "night life" in the surrounding district. But if you want peace and quiet (despite a main road going past the door) this is a lovely place. I took pictures of the surrounding countryside standing in the middle of the road without any difficulty.

We first stayed in the cottage for our honeymoon in 2009 and have been back since as we feel like we can't keep away! The welcome is second to none. As for cleanliness, you feel as though you are the first people to use the facilities. The BBQ hut is tremendous. My husband wants to use it every night. We cook steaks from the farm shop, langoustines from Loch Fyne Oyster Bar along with scallops and lots of other fish. We always top it off with toasted marshmallows.
Jennifer from next door is lovely. Her hens lay the tastiest eggs.
