This is absolutely one of the nicest guest houses in which I have ever stayed...everything is top of the line! It is part of a secured estate so you feel safe but still have a freestanding new structure with marble bath with a wonderful huge soaking tub, premier linens, wine and chocolate as welcome gifts, stainless appliances and the charm you would hope for at Franschoek. It is easy walking distance to the wonderful restaurants. Marlicia was a wonderful host---made recommendations and reservations for us...we truly felt pampered. If we are lucky enough to go back to Franschoek, we know that we will stay here again.

Can't recommend Petit Plaisir highly enough. Everything is provided for you from fresh fruit, fabulous home-made rusks + flapjacks down to tea, coffee, toilet rolls, washing up liquid, you name it it's there ! Marlicia + Luis are the hostesses with the mostest + you even get little Zulu the jack russell to keep you company if you're missing your pets at home. Its spotlessley clean + the simple furnishings are homely + comfy. Beautiful sheets + towels regularly replaced + all the utensils you ever need in the kitchen.
Its in a fabulous location, peaceful yet within 5mins walk to the centre of Franshoek + all the bars + restaurants.
We stayed for 2 weeks + loved every minute + came home totally refreshed + relaxed. 1st class ! -

Stayed here after recommendation from a friend and we weren't disappointed. We are a young couple with a small baby and the owners made us feel very welcome, provide a cot, booked some restaurants for us, recommended places to stay formthe rest of our trip and even provide babysitting services. I couldn't recommend this place more.

Just back from 8 nights at Petit Plaisir. What a great find that totally lives up to the previous reviews we read. It is lovely and the perfect place for a couple to stay who are looking for some quality tranquility to chill in the beautiful surroundings of Franschhoek. It is just a ten minute walk from the village centre and an hours drive from Capetown.
Marlicia is the perfect host and nothing is too much trouble and those little touches really do make a difference. From the complimentary wine, fruit and homemade cakes on arrival to booking restaurant reservations or checking weather forecasts for trips it's all part of the service. Additional and very unexpected bottle of champagne to toast our engagement at the top of table mountain at sunset - oh yes well planned on my part so for all you lovers planning that extra romantic surprise - this one works!! Delightful cottage with all mod cons and a fantastic bathroom with a very powerful shower that is so refreshing after a hard days sunbathing! Lovely pool and patio area and whilst the garden and pool is shared with the owners, it is a strict no go area for the owners when guests are staying so privacy is guaranteed. Daily but discreet maid service as you would expect from a 4 star. If you havn't been to Franschhoek before - do it, it is the wine and culinary centre of The Cape with just too many fantastic restaurants to name but here's a few. Dieu Donne for fantastic unrivalled views of the valley and great food and wine to match; cafe Bon Bon lovely for breakfast or lunch, La Petit Ferme for quality and stunning views or Monneauxa (part of The Franschhoek Country Hotel) for fab food and setting and all of the above have service to die for (compared to your average eatery in UK).
Petit Plaisir is a great place, ideal location overlooking mountains and very competitively priced. Fantastic service, quality fixtures and fittings and lovely hosts in both Marlicia and Louis. You would be mad to miss this little gem in fabulous Franschhoek. -

The cottage was lovely and we were close enough to downtown Franschhoek to walk to shopping and restaurants. Marlicia, the owner, spoiled us. Even though this was a self-catering cottage, we were supplied with coffee, tea, biscuits, and a big bowl of fruit that was constantly replenished. We also had maid service during the week with the bed made, general tidying up, and refreshed towels. We were given a bottle of wine on arrival and Marlicia surprised us with a bottle of bubbly on my partner's birthday. Great value and we'd definitely stay there again.
Payment was a challenge since this was a cash only rental requiring a deposit and then the balance at the end of our stay. We ended up wiring the money, something I generally would not do for a property unknown to me, but it worked out fine. -

Freundlich, familiäre Betreung durch Eigentümerin Marllicia. Sehr komfortable eingerichtetes Self Catering.
Response from Petit Plaisir - 12/28/2012

Dear Peter, thank you for taking the time to do the review. I was sorry that you left Petit Plaisir 2 days earlier because of gnats (muggies), in the garden. Remember to wear protective clothes, burn candles and spray insect repellents, especially at sunset, if there's a next time.
Kind regards, Marlicia

What a perfect place to spend a romantic weekend! Petit Plaisir is tucked away enough to facilitate plenty of private time, while enjoying stunning views and still being close to all amenities.
The line between personal attention and privacy was perfectly balanced. We felt looked after and pampered, while our personal space was never invaded.
The cottage speaks of luxury and attention to detail, translating into feeling very pampered. -

Its difficult to find a quality self-catering cottage but this is a gem in one of South africa's prime tourist spots. You are given a warm welcome and lots of good tips on where to eat and what to do in the area. Very quiet, secure and beautifully appointed with many special touches to make it feel home from home.

Location was great, set in a quiet street. We received brilliant service. Warm pizza's were waiting when we checked in, our flat was serviced daily, firewood was stocked up daily. The owner washed some of our clothing at no extra cost. Very homely, friendly and a great stay all round!

Service was very warm and friendly. Perfect location to explore the town.
We had everything we needed, they really thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable...homemade rusks, lots of firewood, basic catering goodies like spices and cooking oil. Also liked the box of emergency supplies - very thoughtful.
Would have liked a heater in the bedroom, or somehow open up the fireplace to arm up the bedroom. -

We've been staying with Marlicia at Le Petit Plaisir since the early days (some five or six years ago?) As a former ***guest house owner I admit to being a rather more critical visitor than most! The cottage though not big, is luxuriously and tastefully appointed; spotlessly clean with good linen, generous sized towels in the bathroom, quality kitchen fittings and utensils, etc. It is set on the edge of town so quiet but within easy reach of restaurants and the busy town centre; there is a pretty garden with mountain views,a secluded pool and off street parkig. Apart from being a friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable hostess, Marlica has got the detail right, which I believe makes all the difference to a stay - real coffee, fresh milk and fruit in the fridge - though it is self catering - fresh flowers, plenty of coat hangers, local guides and magazines, etc.

If you like home from home then Petit Plaisir is the place to stay. It is a quaint separate cottage next to the family home. Marlicia the owner is very hospitable and can't do enough for you. There is home made jam, fresh milk, tea, coffee and even fresh fruit waiting on your arrival. We had a very enjoyable stay. The main street is full of great restaurants and the village has lots of wonderful wineries within a short drive. One of our favourite places to visit.

What a fantastic find this was! I thought it would be ok from the photos although you never know until you actually see it in real life but it did go beyond our expectations. Is it just me who feels that we "couples" seem relegated to the studio "one room does everything" idea. Personally, when I go on holiday I want something as good as home or better and Petit Plaisir certainly hit the spot for us. Beautiful fabrics and colours were matched to perfection and Marlisia seemed to have thought of everything. One great addition - which I've not had while self-catering in South africa before - were sturdy Pick & Pay Bags, one of which was a cold bag. Simple stuff but they were so useful. There was tea, coffee, biscuits, salt, pepper etc - I could go on. We sayed for a week and it was so restful with a lovely garden of our own outside the porch and a BBQ was produced without any problem at all. Marlicia and Louie were so kind to us and even had us for a BBQ to show us the South african way to do it and it really was delicious. Marlicia seems to make everything herself which is a joy these days and nothing was too much trouble. They even had a little dog to die for! The Restaurants were just a stroll away - about 12 minutes - but it was so nice to come back to the peace and quiet and watch the sunset from the porch...bliss!

We had the most wonderful stay at Petit Plaisir in Franschhoek in February during which time our daughter was married. We couldn't have chosen a better place! The owner Marlicia was incredibly hospitable and thoughtful, the cottage was absolutely perfect - so spotlessly clean, very comfortable, amazingly peaceful and safe, yet extremely convenient to absolutely everything in Franschhoek. Within easy walking distance of the town and all it's superb restaurants and shops. We would highly recommend Petit Plaisir and hope to return in the near future.

We absolutely loved our two nights at PP and if we could do it all over again, we'd stay here and only visit Stellenbosch. Here you have your own cottage on the property of a lovely couple and their adorable Jack Russell Terrier, Zulu. The kitchen is stocked with what you need to cook, even spices, although we didn't cook much due to the plethora of restaurants and wineries. We played golf, tasted wine, ate, played more golf, drank more wine, ate more amazing food, shopped, and then got to come home to our little cottage. The owners were away for part of the time during Christmas vacation and they had no problem with us being there alone. When they were there, they helped with restaurant advice, made tee times for us and couldn't have been more helpful. (Even did a load of laundry but I don't think it's fair to assume this is normal- we were desperate). The pool is delightful, and the housekeeper came the morning we left to collect the key. It's safe, beautifully clean, and the bathtub, oh my! We loved how we could walk to town and park our rental car inside the gate and feel perfectly safe. If you stay here, you'll write a review too! It's a little slice of heaven.
