Within blocks of Main Street, this charming 1920’s basse block cottage is a gem in a quiet residential neighborhood. Forget Me Not is a restoration dream of an artist and her “jack-of-all-trades” husband. The house that Hemingway inspired… from his youthful days in Paris to his exotic travels in Africa, to his final years in Key West.
The Parisian inspired kitchen is a subtle taupe with pristine white trim. Local finds, such as the harvest table and many architectural details add unique interest to the dining area. Like the collections of Hemingway and his contemporaries in Paris, art plays an integral role at F...orget Me Not. A wonderful collection of your hostess’s artwork, which includes watercolors, pastels, and drawings, finds a home here.
The British colonial retreat, reminiscent of an early 1900’s safari, maintains a genteel air. Isak Denisen, author of
Out of Africa
, wouldn’t have been more comfortable in Kenya than here. Energized by Hemingway’s safari adventures, the African bedroom is full of interesting antiques and travel souvenirs. The majestic queen sized four poster bed is dressed with custom linens. A fine collection of bisque birds nest in an antique armoire. Two overstuffed floral chairs comprise the sitting area. The adjoining bath is a rich, butter yellow with fresh white wainscoting. Draped with leopard inspired curtains, the antique claw footed tub (with shower) is stunning.
The front bedroom, Key West style, is all that is tropical. A perfect place to retire, refreshing lime sherbet walls beckon cool ocean breezes. The queen sized black iron bed is accessorized with an array of delightful linens. A collection of majolica and cottage ceramics fills the corner cupboard. The second bathroom, with shower, is fresh periwinkle and white. An antique stained glass window cleverly doubles as a mirror.
The mix and match cottage style comes alive in the third bedroom. The wicker daybed (with trundle) is in tip top country flair, overlaid with light, bright country florals.

It was the perfect cottage to stay at with my mother and sister. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the jacuzzi tub was a nice way to relax at the end of the day. I also loved the front porch swing. Overall we were very pleased and I would love to stay there again!
cozy and fun

We have stayed in many many B&B;'s and this was cute and well decorated and in a nice neighborhood, quiet and safe, not too far from Main St. Only complaint was that the hall bathroom door would not close, otherwise all was just great. We were there in very hot weather and could not enjoy the outside, but would have if cooler.

Easy, friendly check in. Given lots of "to do" fliers and info. The house was very nice and well kept. Everything was clean and well organized. Location was off main street far enough to be away from the late night revelers! Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed the house and our stay.

We stayed two couples in this house and there is plenty of room. Great kitchen and really nice beds. We wanted two baths so this house was great.
The one bath with the claw foot tub is a little difficult to use but well decorated and nice. Probably the only minor negative is that this house does not have a living area so you have to talk and visit around the kitchen table. The outside area is great too. We loved Fredericksburg and will be back.
I loved this little house!

My husband, daughter and I stayed in this house and we loved it. I loved the way this house is decorated. It was comfortable and the perfect get-away. I would definitely stay there again.
Peaceful! just add peaches...

We try to make a trip to buy peaches each summer. My
Sweet 90 year old aunt was visiting from Florida and we decided it was the perfect time for our annual peach trip. We stayed at forget me not once before and were so happy we decided it was the perfect place to share with her. There was a bedroom for each of us and a wonderful kitchen to relax with morning coffee. We bought delicious peaches and had a relaxed stay once again in our favorite Texas getaway! Thanks to Gastehaus Schmidt for always meeting our requests.
Our home for Thanksgiving
Left on 06/05/2012 for a stay in November 2011 | Walt PINKSTON
We rented Forget Me Not for a family gathering at Thanksgiving, and the house was practically perfect for getting together. The furnishings provided a good deal of charm and comfort for everyone. We prepared family meals in the big kitchen, and sat around the long dining table for meals and endless board games. The beds were comfortable. We had a great time.
The house is located within a (long) walk to the downtown area, and we spent a long weekend exploring shops, taking in a movie, visiting wineries, checking out the holiday festivities downtown, taking photos and driving around the area.
The bathrooms in the house were a bit tiny and antiquated, and that's about the only negative comment we had.

I have stayed at Forget Me Not Cottage three times and it is my favorite place in the Fredericksburg area. The decorating is very charming, the beds are super comfy, and the neighborhood is nice and quiet.

Our stay at Forget Me Not was lovely, cozy and so much fun being

The house was clean, comfy and so adorably decorated. We felt welcome, but never saw anyone who owned or worked there, so there really was no service to be had regarding our personal stay. That's ok; it's not a bed and breakfast, just a bed and a fun place to relax and visit. It would have been nice to have a more comfortable place to sit out on the deck or yard; perhaps some hummingbird feeders, birdbath or something to draw in birds and butterflies. But that's just me. We mainly went to shop. Ha! We would definitely come again and hope to one day.

Forget Me Not was unforgettable. A beautiful home with every comfort. Loved the kitchen. Touches of foreign travel transported us to far away lands! Great location. Quiet. Yard could have used a little TLC. Website waa hard to navigate but I finally got the hang of it.
Girls weekend in Fredericksburg
Left on 06/05/2012 for a stay in September 2011 | FredericksburgGirlsTrip
I rented this house with 4 girl friends for one night. We drove in from austin on Saturday, stopping at a few wineries along the way. Many of the rentals in Fredericksburg have a two-night minimum stay. Gastehaus Schmidt was very helpful in working with us to find one that would allow only one night and still meet our needs. This is a very cute, comfortable home with plenty of room to fit all of us and close enough to the downtown area that we considered walking for dinner. (It had been a long day, so we drove instead, but walking was an option, so long as no one has mobility issues.) We enjoyed sitting on the back patio and visiting with each other over coffee in the morning. A lovely place - we'd stay here again.
