Description from the manager
The Red Barn is situated on a bluff on the west bank of the Gamenthaler Creek, which bisects the 45 acres of oaks and open land that make up the Pepper Ranch. The Red Barn was designed by your hosts and their builder, the award winning
Richard Laughlin
, following the purchase of the land in 2004. The exterior is based on the part wood part stone barn at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg. The old wooden beams and red siding came from an early 19th Century barn shipped down from Wisconsin.

The Red Barn at Pepper Ranch is a georgous property outside of Fredericksburg Tx that more than lives up to all your expectations. From the moment you open the gate and drive thru the oak trees you enter a timeless era reminiscent of pioneer days. The house sits on a bluff overlooking the creek with grassy banks. The house is a gem. The owners made full use of antiques inside and outside so the feeling of the pioneer spirit with modern conveniences makes for a very memorable visit. This was our 4th trip back and reading thru the guest book we are not the only repeat guests. Whether you are wanting some quite time to ponder nature or need a few day trips with a comfortable guest lodging to refortify your self this is the place for you.

This property lacks nothing. Deluxe accommodations and we loved the porch with the tub and outside shower in back. The picture window in the living area is the icing on the cake.

The location alone of this home is worth the price. Approached by a private drive through low, spacious woods, opening onto a view of the house on a rise across from a small brook, the entry feels like a step through time.
The house itself is beautifully, thoughtfully, thoroughly finished in every detail. From the window over the kitchen sink to the steps down and through the double doors to the master bedroom with en suite and french doors to the patio, to the two-story living space with gigantic picture window looking over the hill to the brook, to the firepit and picnic area under the arbor and the outdoor bath on the patio, to the charming and comfortable upstairs bedrooms and the glass shower in the upstairs bathroom (quite a thrill!), this house is one to return to for many a memorable family vacation.
Our family of six adults and one child were accommodated in comfort and luxury, made the more enjoyable in its simplicity, and will come again soon. -

My family stayed at Red Barn at Pepper Ranch to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. The home is beautiful, well appointed and has amazing views. The property is great for watching wildlife and exploring. The downstairs master bedroom is perfect for adults wanting privacy, while the bedrooms upstairs are very charming and spacious! The location is far enough out to have a real Texas hill country feel and close-in enough to be convenient. We loved it!

Great house, wonderful setting for our family retreat. I hope to return, just not during hunting season. While out walking the property, my family and I were approached by an angry deer hunter who explained there were several hunters stationed around the property and we could be in danger if we continued to interfere with their hunt. We promptly returned to inside the house and did not venture out much thereafter.

It was a gorgeous house, lovely wide board reclaimed wood floors and large stone floors, I loved walking around barefoot!
I had thought that the kitchen might feel cramped, but it actually worked wonderfully. The toaster was tricky to get to work well (toasted but not burnt).
The private location meant that the kids could run around and scream as much as they wanted.
We all thought that it was the best place we had ever stayed at, we would love to come back. -

We absolutely loved the Red Barn! The rustic decor and solitude was wonderful! We adored the outside soaking tub and abundant wildlife. The outside shower was a great, unique touch that was used more than once. We highly recommend this place for a romantic get-away or any other occasion. I just hope all the dates aren't taken so we can go back and enjoy it again!!

The home and property were breathtaking! The kids played down in the stream and we enjoyed sitting on the spacious back porch watching them. We also made friends with the cute cat! The house was very clean and gorgeous inside. It was pricey, so this was probably a one time visit for us at this location.

The Red Barn at Pepper Ranch was a great place for all the girls to gather for a reunion. The home was wonderful, large, plenty of space, great kitchen for cooking a meal, and the patio with the fireplace was a great place to relax. The location was perfect only a few miles from town. The service was great, and the house has everything that you need for your stay.

This is a really neat place in the country to stay. We enjoyed walking around the property, barbecuing, fire pit and using it for a base for day trips. Nice accommodations inside too.
