Description from the manager

This is the perfect home for guests wanting country seclusion and experience country living. Located approximately 25—30 miles southwest of Fredericksburg this large ranch two story log home is on 50 acres.

Newly built this log and stucco home is beautiful and comfortable both inside and out. The house was constructed of reclaimed logs and planks from historic barns and houses that were torn down. The floors are all hardwood with the living room having planks 12 wide. A large fireplace warms the living room, which offers ample comfortable leather seating and a 60” flat screen television. The modern kitchen and dining room wi...Read more

Very large, very private space with ample amenities - priced nic

Left on 09/04/2012 for a stay in September 2012

While a bit Texana in style for my tastes, the very large whirlpool tub, walk-in shower and private bathrooms for each bedroom made for the perfect blend of family visitation and privacy options. The large, private acreage was just perfect for our purposes - visiting with family. Fredericksberg was about 20 minutes away, but we chose to stay on property for the whole trip. The porch was wonderful at night, and the higher-end appliances made meal prep and cleanup quick. The loft had its own small 'fridge, a sink that was not in the bath, (of course, one was in the bath also) a microwave, and a flat screen tv. The DVD connected to the large living room TV to allow for movies or music play. The dining area was inviting and we spent more time there than the living room.
The price easily saved us money, while offering a much nicer alternative to hotels. At $250 nightly for 3 - 4 guests, a bargain. Check out photos at Gasthaus Schmidt, but they really don't capture the size of this place.

      Great stay

Left on 06/18/2012 for a stay in April 2012

The cabin and area were very nice. The directions the rental agency gave were terrible, the is a much more direct route with better roads. The smaller downstairs bedroom was listed on the website as having a "queen" size bed but was instead a "fullsize" bed. There was no lounge chairs on the porch as pictures indicated only one wooden bench and a rustic chair that didn't look safe to sit in. Other than the lack of outside chairs, the smaller bed and the directions everything else was great and we would stay there again.

This cabin is very cozy and private. The location is is far enough away that wild life is viewed from the wrap around deck each day. The utilities and facilities were all functional. Nice place.

      Luxury Country Cabin

Left on 06/14/2012 for a stay in October 2011

We absolutely loved Kate's Cabin from the western furnishings to the wrap around porch. The master bedroom and bath is its own retreat with plenty of space and a large jacuzzi tub. There is also a wonderful outdoor sitting area where families can enjoy each other and the night sky. The property is beautiful with space to walk around and is also home to cows and horses who like to welcome new visitors.

Beautiful, well equipped place way out in the country.

Left on 06/05/2012 for a stay in December 2011

We used to try a new place every year for our Christmas trips to Fredericksburg. But after going to Kate's Cabin 3 years ago for the first time, we book it every year. After 3 trips, we now can get there without a map. It is at least 15 miles outside of the city deep into the country away from everyone. Well worth the drive.

      Awesome!

Left on 06/05/2012 for a stay in May 2012

This is our second time renting the cabin. I would recommend replacing the upstairs bed with a queen size. It use to be one up there. The place is very peaceful and a great place to hibernate.

A Family rustic retreat with elegance

Left on 06/05/2012 for a stay in March 2011

From the moment we pulled into the 1/2 mile long driveway, we knew it was going to be a peaceful hill country vacation. The windmill, spring fed pond with nearby porch swing were all a delight. The home itself was a treat to stay in. The Elk heads were very impressive, the rooms were beyond expectation. The master bath was an oasis. Our daughters loved the lofted bedroom. Our family had fun with the hammock and the hiking around the grounds all weekend.
