The Wild Ram: The Zodiac

The Wild Ram is located on 2 1/2 acres found just east of Fredericksburg.  In 1847 Mormans led by Lyman Wight established the community of Zodiac on the Pedernales River, four miles east of Fredericksburg in Gillespie County. They built a storehouse, private homes, and laid out a series of communal farms. Floods destroyed Zodiac in 1851, and the Mormon colony moved to a site on Hamilton Creek in Burnet County.  To this date only two homes remain on the property—”The Zodiac” is one of the cabins and  your hosts want to share this cabin with you during your visit to the Hill Country.

This rustic two story cabin built in 1848 has two bedroom; one upstairs and one downstairs.  Entering into the cabin is a fully equipped kitchen with a table for four.  The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed.  The bath, also located downstairs has a walk-in shower and antique claw foot tub.  There are two televisions—one in each bedroom ...all have Direct TV (basic).  

 

Upstairs is a bedroom with a king bed.  Just outside the bedroom is a large deck for enjoying the beautiful Hill Country hills and valleys.  Your hosts say their favorite thing about their guest house is the peaceful solitude they feel here, watching the stars at night and smelling the candles from the candle factory across the highway.

  We stayed one night in the Zodiac and really enjoyed the peace and quiet this property offered. I specifically picked this property for a few reasons - 1. king size bed, 2. privacy compared to a hotel/motel, 3. out in the countryside to maximize stargazing opportunities, 4. close in to Fredericksburg without being right in the middle of things. This property was easy to find and so well kept. It has a balcony off the upstairs bedroom that allows for easy relaxing on beautiful evening. The upstairs bedroom has a king size bed that made for a great night's sleep. The bathroom is downstairs and the shower in there was huge! You also have the option to take a nice soak in the separate tub. Owners left a few breakfast items and some snacks - we really enjoyed the hot chocolate and popcorn. There is another cabin beside this house for someone with a large group of people, you could rent both. There is no wi-fi and the TV in the bedrooms are rather small but have satellite service. Most people who rent a place like this are not looking to watch TV or sit on a computer, but it is still good to know what you won't find. This property is a great place to relax, I just wish we had stayed more than one night. I am looking forward to returning and taking in some fantastic sunsets from that upstairs balcony.
