      Perfect Vacation Week

Left on 12/23/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) had a magic 9 day vacation. Everyone at the Freedom Village Store was friendly and happy to chat over coffee and make suggestions of fun things to do. The beach is a 3 minute drive, or a peaceful walk down a dirt road. Loon Lake was a warm water lake! I'm used to the freezing cold lakes of Vermont, but Loon Lake was perfect swimming temperature. We loved hiking Green Mountain and visiting the craft centers and farmers markets. And the cottage has peace and privacy and its own beachfront, but is right in the center of the village. Would definately repeat this vacation.

Great house in a picture-perfect New England town

Left on 04/27/2010 for a stay in July 2009

My family and I have rented "The Smithy" several times in the past few years to have our own New Hampshire vacation while our daughter is at Camp Huckins. The house has plenty of room for 4 adults (more if you don't mind sleeping on the floor or a couch), and is equipped with everything you need. Mornings with the paper and coffee on the porch over looking the pond are great. We once even saw a moose near the pond! Freedom is the picturesque New England town everyone dreams of --friendly people, nice old houses, and beautiful gardens. There's not a whole lot to do in Freedom itself (except relax), but North Conway isn't far, and there are lots of antique shops in the area. The Freedom Town Beach on Loon Lake is perfect for kids of all ages...there's a sandy beach, the water gets deeper gradually, and there's a raft for the kids to swim out to and jump off of.

      Great small town New England

Left on 04/23/2010 for a stay in September 2009

First off - Freedom is definitely a state of mind! This property is located in the perfect little New England village - complete with white clapboard church, village band stand, and Victorian house after Victorian house.
The house itself has a huge master bedroom with a great window looking off into the woods - comfy bed too! Second bedroom is fine. Downstairs large kitchen with all necessities, and a large dining/living area. The large porch looking out over the pond was ideal for our cocktail hours.
Didn't actual do any swimming, but drove down to the beach - nice medium size lake with only a few houses visible through the surrounding trees - mountains in the distance.
Drive to North Conway for the shopping and viewing the White Mountains was about 30 minutes of country lanes winding past mountain lakes and through even smaller villages.
Finally - no hassles, clean, what was advertised was what we got. Seemed like really nice people.
If you want bars and big city - look elsewhere, but if you want country living in comfort surrounded with picture postcard quaint old New England - I can recommend this property highly.

      Small Town New England

Left on 04/12/2010 for a stay in August 2009

Freedom is a postcard New England town and this house is situated right in the middle of it all. Walk to the public library, the post office, or church. Enjoy the lake that is a short distance from the house with a sandy "beach" and two rafts for swimming and sunbathing. The house is roomy and comfortable and can sleep more than the two bedrooms suggests. The deck is a wonderful spot for breakfast or pre-dinner cocktails where you can watch the water and wildlife. On one trip to the house we saw a moose from the kitchen window! North Conway and outlet shopping is an easy 30 minute drive and there are many great antique shops in neighboring towns. This is a place where you can "get away from it all" and yet there is so much just a short distance away if you need more to do than kicking back with a good book and enjoying what small town New England has to offer.

Quiet, Serene stepping back in time

Left on 04/11/2010 for a stay in July 2009

The Smithy has two floors, and a spacious front porch. The kitchen was great, the water hot, and the view incredible. It looks out over a small mill pond. Freedom is a small town that feels like you stepped into a Norman Rockwell Painting. It is peaceful and quiet. The house has this amazing spiral stair case.
