Description from the owner
How long is it since you saw a fish leap in beautiful, sun-dappled, aquamarine water?
From my delightful one-bedroom apartment, you can look out over a lovely pool area to the beautifully clear aquamarine water of Bell Channel. Watch the sparkling white pleasure craft sail by throughout the day. Admire the reflections during the calm early morning and evening times and watch for those fish breaking the surface. If you feel so-inclined you could even try to catch a few!

Left on 06/11/2013 for a stay in May 2013
Pat and her husband Ivan, were very easy to work with. She contacted me in only minutes after my first inquiry. The rate she posts is all inclusive. There isn't any other fees like taxes, cleaning, administrative processing fee etc. You give Pat your flight arrival information and she meets you at the apartment and shows you how everything works and gives you the keys/clicker. There is a gate around the apartment complex that you have to either use a key or clicker to gain access. I felt very safe in the area. We couldn’t figure out the password to the internet and called Pat. They answered right away and told us (it’s on the router). They also have a phone (it’s a corded princess phone just like the old days LOL!) that you can call the us. I used it a lot and it worked perfect. I think it is a Magic Jack. You can also give out this number and your family members can call you from the us. There is a phone in the bedroom that is dedicated to calling only in the Bahamas. It was very handy to call for taxis. We felt we didn’t need a rental car because we didn’t explore anything else on the island. We felt happy to walk to restaurants and the beach. If you schedule an excursion, you can easily walk to the beach where they are located.
Pat provides you with directions to give to the taxi driver to get to the apartment. Taxi driver was easy to get, cost was $20 each way and is only about a 15 min. drive to the apartment. We got the card and number of the taxi driver that took us to the apartment and called him the day before we left and told him what time to pick us up. We had a 6 am pick up on a Saturday with no problem. He was even a few minutes early.
The apartment is a bit dated but in good shape and well maintained. An example is the coffee maker is old but it still works fine. The tub and shower are old but was very clean and worked great. The windows are older but they do the job. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were in new condition and it was clean. The towels in the bathroom aren't brand new and were a little worn but basically looked like what you'd use in your own home. The television is old but worked fine. The sofa and love seat wasn't the most up to date style but definitely clean and in great shape. The internet worked fantastic. The sliding patio door didn't slide the best but it isn't really an issue. The kitchen had all the pots, pans, cups, linens needed to prepare a meal. A full size refrigerator that was very clean. There wasn't an icemaker however; you could do it the old fashioned way and use the ice cube trays LOL! There were paper towels, two rolls of toilet paper (if you need more there is a drug store at Port Lucaya Marketplace), a hotel size soap and a few hotel sized shampoo and conditioners. Don't get me wrong the place doesn't have shag carpet from the 70's and is not in a state of disrepair...it's just older. The rental cost is right on target for the apartment.
The pool in the condo was very clean. I noticed the pool guys come out most days and clean it. We were the only ones at the pool each time we went. The apartment is close enough to the pool to run back to use the restroom, grab a drink or food.
There is a laundry area right by the apartment so pack light. Pat even had a little detergent in the apartment (which shows you she actually does wash the bedspread after guests leave). The washer and dryers were Maytag and looked pretty new. It was about $1.25 (all quarters) a load for each machine.
We slept with the windows open as we had very pleasant temperatures. We visited in May. We did turn on the a/C one night and it worked great. We sat on the balcony and didn't see/feel any mosquitoes. The view from the balcony is the pool area and the marina right beyond it. There are palm trees that give the balcony a lot of privacy. Here is an example again...the patio furniture was old but worked out just fine. The condo complex is very quiet and peaceful. It is always nice to have an ocean view but we felt the pool and marina view worked fine for us.
The actual apartment is behind the Port Lucaya Marketplace. The area as you walk (only about a 5 min. walk) to the Port Lucaya Marketplace has abandoned apartments and looks a little deserted. The apartments by Pat's area are occupied and are well maintained. However; once you get into the marketplace area it all comes alive. There are restaurants and shops however; you get the feel it was much more vibrant in the past as some of the stores and shops are closed.
The casino is right across from the Marketplace. It's not a large one but definitely you could have a night of fun. There is a big hotel (actually the only one still open I think) right by the Marketplace. We did go in the lobby and checked out the backside that faced the ocean. It was very luxurious but we were just as happy to go home to Pat's place without breaking the bank. We were able to access the same beach area as this big hotel however; at a much lower cost.
There is beach access from Pat's place by the police station. It is only about at the most a 10 min. walk. When you enter here, there is a beach bar which is very active. This area is where a lot of cruise ship people come. So just walk through and head to the right and in a very short walk you will have an uncrowded beach. I think the cruisers only come on Mon., Tues and Wed. otherwise the beach is practically empty. We didn't get accosted by vendors much and the further you move down the beach the more private and they won't even bother to come down to you. Believe me I have been on beaches before (in Costa Rica) and couldn't even stay because of all the vendors bugging you. This is something that is important to me and it wasn't much of an issue at all.
The first day there was a lot of seaweed on the beach but after that day we didn't see much at all. The water is crystal clear and blue. We saw a few stingrays in the water right where we were swimming. There is a beach bar that is within a condo complex that serves to the public on down after you turn to the right (about 20 min.) You can set up stake there and then get drinks and food. You will have to bring your own chair or towels. There is a guy that sells chairs on the beach when you first enter the beach and it is $10 a day. It would be too far to drag those chairs down to the other beach bar by the condos.
There is a nice supermarket (Solomon’s I think) about a 15 min. walk away from the apartment. We walked up and took the bus home. The bus stop is across from the supermarket and they come about every 20 min. It’s like a 9 passenger van and it’s marked as public transportation. It was only $1.25 each. The grocery store had fresh fruit, meat and seemed just like an U.S. supermarket however; the prices are a lot higher. We planned a head of time and brought coffee, tea and snacks with us which saved a lot of money. A case of beer (Bud Light) which you have to buy at the liquor store at Port Lucaya (they don’t sell liquor at the grocery store) is about $42. If you buy their native (Sands light), it isn’t that much cheaper.
At a restaurant you can plan to pay about $50-75 for two people for dinner out with a few drinks including tip. Remember they include a 15% tip in with the bill and if you really think it’s fantastic you can tip a bit more. Molly’s Irish Pub a hamburger and fries was $14 and beers were $6.00 ea. We spent $75 at Batesman and got surf and turf (the meat tasted just the same as in the us), grilled salmon with two sides each and one lobster bisque and a few glasses of wine. The food at this restaurant was by far better than the others. In fact we went here two nights in a row! The Dominos pizza was pretty good too. They can deliver to the apartment if you want. We stopped by the Subway for lunch and walked right out. It seemed dirty and the food looked old.
I know this is alot of info. but answers all the questions I had when I looked at the numerous vacation rentals available. Btw, I rated this place 5 stars because if you compare the rental cost to the place it was perfect!
If you are looking for a rental with all the amenities of a hotel, luxurious linens, the latest style in furniture and are willing to pay triple the amount of Pat's place, look elsewhere. If however; you want a clean, well maintained place for a fraction of the cost of other vacation rentals and hotels, this is your place.Response from Patricia M Burns - 06/13/2013

If we get the chance to stay at Grand Bahama again we will definitely choose to stay at this apartment. Its a "home from home" and the location is ideal. We found it to be excellent value for money. It is in easy walking distance to the beach and the shops and restaurants at Port Lucaya marketplace, yet sitting out on the balcony was still private and peaceful.
Renting a car enabled us to explore all over the island. We particularly enjoyed visiting the Lucayan National Park.
We found a particularly friendly welcome at Molly Malones Irish pub and eatery, at Port Lucaya marketplace, where all kinds of cocktails were served. -

Our vacation was delayed a day due to flight cancellation, Pat moved our departure out by one day at no additional charge (we ended up with the same number of vacation days). The location of the condo couldn't be better, close by to everything and very safe. I mentioned in the title that it's an excellent value, however be advised that the condo is older and could use some updating. If Pat was to put some money into upgrading the bathroom and kitchen it would go a long way to modernizing the condo, but would lead to a much higher cost for rental. So... I love the location, Pat is a wonderful lady, and it's very fairly priced. I look forward to staying at Pat's condo again. Many thanks, Jeff

Left on 02/03/2012 for a stay in January 2012
The apartment was average and in need of minor upkeep. Great place to stay as it was close to beach and the nicest shopping area on the island. All within walking distance. The closest grocery store about a mile away had just closed so it was hard to get groceries, the manager was unaware of this but once she found out she offered to take us to another place which was a kind gesture. The apartment had all the things you needed to be able to cook, make coffee, or blend drinks. Gated community was nice and grounds were clean, pool area was nice and there were laundry facilities.Pat the owner was great. She was there when we arrived and gave us the tour. Thanks for a great vacation Pat. Overall a great place for the price.

Apartment was very well situated and within walking distance of Port Lucaya market. It was great to be able to sit out on the balcony for breakfast & that all important sundowner. Although if the palm tree grows anymore it will be like the jungle! The view over the Bell Channel was lovely and we saw a Stingray & Barracuda in the water by the boats. We also had a visit from a Black heron whilst we were at the pool. The pool was quite cold for swimming, but we were having windy and partial cloud whilst we were there so sun not on it all the time.

We stayed a week at the condo apartment. The price was right, the area was secure, and the location was very close to the beach and to the Port Lucaya Marketplace. The owner was friendly, trustworthy and very helpful. The water was hot, the appliances worked and there was a good selection of all the kitchen items one usually needs.

Left on 10/25/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Lack of amentities at the apartment, ex; no paper toilet, old bed sheets, not towels, ect...to far form the beach ( about 20 minutes by walk) no accomadations possible at the beach, need to pay 10 to 20$ per day for a chair, we cannot use the services with the hotels along the beach , far from the grocery( by taxi only or with a rental car).the patio doors need to be repair. I recommend this apartment for people who work at Freeport not for a vacation.

Basically cannot understand this review. I always leave at least one toilet roll in the bathroom. The sheets on the bed are crisp white cotton, purchased earlier this year, and there are spare sets in the closet. As well as brightly coloured towels on the towel rail, there is a pile of soft white towels on the shelf in the cupboard. The beach is about five minutes walk away, as is confirmed in the other reviews. Also, there are about four miles of beautiful, empty, white sand beach so it really is not necessary to use the small strip of more crowded beach at the hotel, which is designated for the use of hotel guests. The grocery store is a fifteen minute walk, but there is also a public bus which takes just a couple of minutes. It stops right outside the store and at a stop less than five minutes from the apartment. There is no problem with the actual patio doors, but one the screen doors was not sliding properly some time ago. That problem has now been dealt with. I am really sorry that this lady was not happy with her stay. I think that maybe a full-service hotel would have been more suitable for her.

This lovely 1 bedroom Condo was perfect for us ! When we didn't feel like eating out we had a full kitchen to work with it! And a very nice view! We meet some very nice new friends who also live there in the complex. Big hello to ann, Richard and Peter, you made us feel very welcomed! And as the ad reads its only a few minutes walk to Port Lacauya Market, and surrounding beautiful beaches. We can't wait to come back again!

After many years visiting Freeport - Port Lucaya, that was the place we like the most. Everything in this condo and around this location was perfect in every way. You only need between 5 and 15 minutes to walk your way through the beach, shopping, casino, bars, restaurants and entertainment. The owner was something else, very available and pleasant. I will definitely return in a near future. Thanks Pat :)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely
apartment. Breakfast on this balcony was a treat
for sore eyes!
The one bedroom flat is close to the shops and
restaurants of Port Lucaya and just a short walk to
beautiful white sandy beaches.
Port Lucaya, the centre for evening dining and
entertainment, where there is daily dancing under
the stars, is only a few minutes walk from the
front door...and after a couple of Bahamas Mamas
you may be very grateful for the proximity!!
The apartment itself is clean, nicely furnished and
well equipped.
The complex has a super pool area and lovely
gardens and a friendly atmosphere.
Whilst we were there we found that the local
residents were very welcoming and through drinks at
the pool bar we learned about the local traditions
and favourite haunts.
The owners took good care of us and answered all
our questions about the wild-life (it is the
tropics afterall!)
It struck a great balance of being able to do
things your own way, and being surrounded by
friends.
It quickly felt like a home-from-home...only, in
paradise!
We highly recommend a visit! -
