      Paoli Ski Trip

Left on 01/17/2013 for a stay in January 2013

I recently stayed at the Wise Old Owl for snow skiing at Paoli Peaks and it is the perfect cabin! The hot-tub felt great on my sore muscles from the slopes. The bed was soo comfortable, I felt like a new person when I woke up in the morning. It was in the 20's and 30's outside during my stay and the cabin was super cozy the whole time, I really enjoyed the fireplace in the living room. The three full bathrooms gave everyone plenty of space to get ready and feel comfortable doing it, and the kitchen was completely equipped - it makes you feel like you are in a home. Manly bison hide and moose antlers with charming owls and rustic lights made it appealing to both men or women - its the perfect place for a "guys" or "girls" weekend retreat!

Your only regret will be that you couldn't stay longer!

      Spring 2012 Ladies Bluegrass Retreat

Left on 04/25/2012 for a stay in April 2012

We are a group of friends who enjoy picking bluegrass and gospel songs together. There were six of us who stayed at this wonderful cabin. The setting is ideal, secluded & peaceful, away from it all. The cabin is very comfortable, nicely decorated, comfortable beds, spacious, well equipped and clean. We are very greatful to Debbie and Butch Porter for making their home available for the enjoyment of others. This was my first visit to this part of Indiana and I was very impressed with all that there is to offer. There is Patoka Lake for fishing and recreation, winter skiing, five-star Victorian Hotels, a casino in French Lick, Fine dining and amish Restaurants, unique shopping and more! I will definitely be returning! One of my favorite activities was visiting and touring the West Baden Springs Hotel and picking some tunes (after hours) with the owners of Schwartz Family Restaurant. Thank you for sharing this jewel.

      Relaxing

Left on 04/10/2012 for a stay in April 2012

The Cabin itself was beautiful and in excellent condition. The property was also beautiful with a trail that leads back into the woods for a short hike. I saw several deer while we stayed. I heard turkey's gobbling. We also heard an Owl Hooting at night while we sat around the fire pit, which was ironic considering the name of the Cabin. It was a much needed relaxing weekend. I can't wait to go back. We are actually discussing going back as soon as June for a summer get away with the kids. There are plenty of kid friendly activities with in a short drive of the surrounding area.

      Amazing cabin

Left on 02/19/2012 for a stay in February 2012

I enjoyed our trip to the Wise old owl cabin. It was decorated beautiful and had all the necessities to cook and feel at home. The owners were easy to reach to make arrangements and were very accomodating. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for a romantic getaway to a large family function. Don't let the size intimidate you it was very homey.

      Perfect for all ages!

Left on 02/02/2012 for a stay in January 2012

This is the perfect setting for all ages! We had 2 families with children ranging in ages from 5-20. We found something for everyone! We loved the setting, the sleeping arrangements, the decor, the cleanliness, the kitchen and the hot tub! This home provided amazing amenities. The kitchen was fully equipped with anything needed! It was close enough to go and sight see as we desired and private enough to go on a hike along the creek. The owners are very prompt in returning phone calls, e-mails and the deposit as well as extremely accommodating to their guests. If you are looking for a quiet get away for 2 or an experience for 20 this is the perfect place to stay!

      Polar Express weekend

Left on 01/21/2012 for a stay in December 2011

We stayed at the cabin over a weekend to attend the Polar Express with our kids. We had lots of room for everyone to play. We especially enjoyed the games and toys for the children. The hot tub was great. Kids enjoyed walking in the woods. We really like having the full kitchen to cook in, too. It doesn't matter what season, there is plenty to do.

      Great for big families

Left on 01/20/2012 for a stay in July 2011

Our 3 generation family of almost 20 really enjoyed this large cabin. It was clean, well stocked kitchen, plenty of towels and bedding and enough room for all of us to sleep comfortably. There was plenty to do in the area. Our favorite was renting a pontoon boat with slide and rafts on two different days. The aC in the cabin works great. We stayed during a very hot week. The owners are very accommodating. We give it 5 stars.

Great place to stay and very nice owners

Left on 01/14/2012 for a stay in July 2011

The stay at this cabin was great. The owners were very professional and were very helpful with everything. We even tried to get them to stay with us a night. We have rented cabins for the last couple of years and found that this was by far one of the best cabins, locations, and owners that we have rented from. Eight of us drove over 8 hours. We had a group of 10 ages 26-75. This cabin was plenty big enough, well equipped, and very clean and picked -up. This cabin has one bed room on the main level that was good for the older couple; the loft worked fine 4 people and the rest of us were down stairs. The only small problem we had was some of us were night owls while others liked to go to bed early or wake up early. So the family members that were on the loft were lacking sleep, due to others talking in the living room. The lake was close by; we fished (did not catch much, but everyone we talked to did not have any luck either); water skied and tubed behind the boat. We also went into town to shop, toured the hotels, go cart raced, went to the casino, did a cave tour and took a train ride. We also enjoyed spending time on the front and back porches (back porch was screened in). The owners also told us about an alternate way to drive into the cabin which had a shorter gravel road to drive down. I do not like gravel roads and if you don't like the dust and you are ok with driving slow for a short distance the alternate route is the better choice. The hot tub was enjoyed by 2 of the family members. There was a table set up with brochures with local attractions that was very helpful. The care keepers that checked up on us were very nice people and felt as if they were part of our family. We will consider going back.

      Amazing Get away!

Left on 01/10/2012 for a stay in May 2011

What a beautiful, clean, tucked-away piece of paradise! There is more than enough room to sleep an entire family, but it's cozy enough for just two. My husband and I went there for a weekend and spent time reading on the front porch, watching old movies and relaxing together. Everything you need is there, I couldn't have asked for anything more!

      Wise Old Owl

Left on 01/07/2012 for a stay in August 2011

I would like to say, if you're looking for a place that has everything for the entire family, then this is the place. No matter what age or what you like to do, it is there. Deb Porter has a really nice place to visit and they take excellent care of it. The price is good and you can't go wrong. It's big enough for a big family, but cozy enough for two. I particularly liked the big screened in back porch with the jacuzzi...hope to go again.

Great getaway for family and friends

Left on 01/07/2012 for a stay in September 2011

My husband and I stayed at this cabin during the summer of 2011. We were more than pleased. Everything was very clean, well mainained, and we were treated like old friends by The Porters. There are lots of adult and family activitities in the area. We are thinking about planning our family vacation there this summer. This is a great place to rekindle romance with a loved one or have fun as a group. We will definitely visit again soon.
