      Fabulous

Left on 02/09/2012 for a stay in September 2011

Everything was wonderful with this rental. The location was awesome...high on a bluff overlooking he Puget Sound. Sitting on the deck we could see orca whales offshore, eagles flying overhead, and watch out for the fox at night. Master bedroom upstairs with a huge bathroom including shower and whirlpool tub. Also a little bed for a child in a little nook outside the bedroom. A balcony is also off this room. The main floor had the back wall entirely glass..so there was a great view anyhow you looked at it. Two bedrooms here and two bathrooms. Kitchen was nice, modern and fully loaded. Wrap around deck was where we spent most of our time looking out at the water and the boats. Also a hot tub on the deck. Downstairs was a tv room with a fold out sofabed and the laundry room, ping pong table, and patio doors to the back yard. Thre is also a good supply of binoculars and scopes that you can use.

If I had to find a fault, it would be the furniture. It was furnished almost entirely with Ikea furniture. This is designed with younger people in mind. The beds were a platform that the mattress sat on. Very low and difficult to get out of for us slighttly pudgy mid-50 yr old. Same with the frontroom furniture. The sofa was too low to get up out of, and the side chairs were like slings. The dining room chairs were also quite small. This place would not be good at all for people of size or advanced age with bad knees, arthritis, etc. But we spent most of our time out on the island, and when we were here we were on the deck a lot. Everything else was so wonderful about this place that we were oohing and ahhhing a lot .

Spectacular location, great house, plenty to do, extremely priva

Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in November 2011

We absolutely loved Orca Beach Hideaway. It was one of our best family getaways ever. The waterfront location was to die for, with a spectacular 180 degree view of the sea and Olympic Mts in all their glory. We really enjoyed watching all of the wildlife out the window including whales, seals, otters, foxes, bald eagles. Nearly all of the summer guest book entiries said they saw Orca whale swim right by the property everyday!! The property was large, well maintained and perfect for the kids to run around. We like our privacy and we enjoyed the fact that we could not see any neighbor houses from the yard.

The house with perfect for our family. It had a large very open floor plan (no walls between living room, dining room, kitchen and sun room) with lots of light. The house faces south and has a 12 ft tall window wall facing the water. We just loved hanging out in living room with the kids, having fun and enjoying the view. The kitchen was extremely well stocked for the gourmet cook - lots of pots and pans and gas cook top too! We were amazed that the owners had stocked the house with plenty of spices, cooking oils, tea bags, popcorn, condiments, etc. My husband did most of the cooking and he never missed out on the view, the wildlife or the family fun. The dining room was also great. We had a new dining room table that sat 8 people comfortably. There was also an smaller table in the sunroom that the kids used. That table sat 6. Upstairs the master bedroom / bath was big, clean and had a sweeping view over the sea and beach. There was even a solid baby crib for the little ones. We really enjoyed waking up and smelling the sea air from the bedroom deck. The basement was ideal for the kids to play and for the grown ups to get a break from the kids. It was big and was appointed with a ping pong table and entertainment area. The TV was great for watching movies. There was no cable or satilite, so movies only. My husband and I saw the lack of cable TV as a blessing. In the evenings the kids read books, played ping pong, board games and listened to music. If only we could ditch the TV at home.

The beach, adjacent to the property, was very beautiful and a source of endless fun. At lower tides the kids ran around on the acres of sand and found lots of sealife in the tide pools. At higher tides we all enjoyed the beachcombing. I almost forgot the best part - there is a big hot tub on the deck overlooking the sea and the sunset. A perfect way to end a day on beautiful San Juan Island. No complaints.

We are definitely planning to return to Orca Beach next year.

      Breathtaking beauty

Left on 10/10/2011 for a stay in September 2011

      Positives:
magnificent setting and views; house was more than adequate to accommodate us and our two adult children and their significant others; we loved the location.
      Negatives:
The airconditioning was not adequate to keep the house cool enough during the day. It got quite warm in the house. The lack of screens in the two back bedrooms was a disappointment. Also, the inability to use the private beach area was a real disappointment. It was totally covered with driftwood. It was not represented appropriately in the description. Also, cleanliness is another issue that needs to be dealt with. Particularly, cobwebs in the 1/2 bath; around doors and also in the downstairs area. The garage was disgraceful.

Wonderful location, beautiful views, private, quiet retreat

Left on 07/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Well stocked bathrooms and kitchen with linens, table service, cooking utensils, towels and paper products. Gorgeous views, very quiet, lots of wildlife, and many pods of whales. What a thrill to see them play in Eagle Cove!!
This beautiful home sleeps 8 and the gathering space is quite comfortable with this many people. However, the table only seats 6 and there are no additional chairs to even squeeze all 8 together. Even if there would have been another table in the other eating space, that would have worked. But during our week-long stay, we were unable to gather around the table together unless we went out to eat. Another table would also allow space for working a puzzle or having another game going.
The picture of the gathering space shows a telescope in the dining room. I understand the list of amenities doesn't list it, but it was somewhat of a disappointment that it wasn't there. Perhaps you should change that picture so it's not an expectation.
Since the list of amenities showed a TV, it was expected there would be a useable set with cable or Satellite Dish. One picture actually shows a Dish, which would suggest that you provide a TV and cable or dish service . The only TV was a small set in the basement/rec-room area, obviously set-up for childrens entertainment, definitelly not for TV viewing . I understand that many people are happy not to have a TV during their vacation, but many others enjoy it and would use it (especially since we could not all be together at the game being played at the table). The folks that don't wish to have it, simply leave it off. It seems that when you spend more than $400 per night, a TV should be an expectation.
Again, we loved the home and location. It provided hours of watching wildlife, sitting in the sun, reading, laughing, picture taking, hot tub soaking...the list goes on and on. However we won't be renting this property again, unless these few simple expectations are met.
