This property was a fantastic find - peaceful, relaxing, with an amazing view. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay. However, we found ants on the kitchen counter and on one of the sofas....daily.

Sorry about the pesky critters! Living "in the woods" does sometimes mean sharing the property with a variety of unwanted guests. We'll get a pest control person to address this.

Spokane, WA, United StatesA Week at Robinson's Cove
Left on 08/30/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We've stayed in quite a few vacation homes in various places and this one is pretty par for the course condition-wise - a little worn but very pleasant with a fabulous view! The kitchen looks large but is really a 2-butt kitchen the way it functions. Also, be prepared for sugar ants. Lemon juice helps, or bring a bottle of natural ant killer. I think they are rampant over the entire island.
Price-wise it was far more expensive than the Oregon Coast but in line with the other house rentals we looked at on San Juan.
The house does not have it's own beach, and the county park beach next door is a bit tougher to reach than we imagined from the description. Not horrible, but hard on my 60 something parents. You can drive down & drop them off, though, so that's a nice feature. Smelled like ocean, which I love! NOT sandy though if that's what you're expecting. Non of the beaches we saw on the island were.
I strongly suggest investing in neoprene socks/booties (the kind paddlers & river people wear) to wear in the water, on the beach, & inside your water sandals. You will sing my praises for this advice later, lol! (About $20-$40 depending on where you buy them. Ours were $19 online on a good sale.)
We took our kayaks and had a blast going from the county beach next door to Friday Harbor (about a 4 hour trip for us.) The first place to rest is the UW biological preserve so be prepared - don't drink too much liquid the first couple of hours! $5 per boat to take out at Friday Harbor's kayak dock.
We also put in at Roche Harbor ($10 per boat) and paddled to English Camp. Also about a 4 hour trip but we spent an hour or so having lunch and exploring English Camp. Well worth it!
Wear your spray skirts & PFDs - the water is cold, the boat wakes can be considerable, and watch out for tide rips - close to shore is always your best bet for safety. :) -

Left on 08/15/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The home accomodated our party with no problem. We were all amazed at how well equipped everything was. The kitchen had more tools, pots, pans, etc. than any rental we have ever stayed in. The location near Roche Harbor was perfect. Close, yet very private. Our exercisers had plenty of places to run and walk, and our relaxers were extremely comfortable. The view is to die for!

It has a wonderful deck and the view is spectacular. We saw eagles right from the deck.Kitchen was very will outfitted and the rooms were very comfortable. Our only complaint is that the house tile should have a complete deep cleaning. Otherwise, we loved it!

Excellent vacation in a beautiful home!!
Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We vacationed during the busiest week in San Juan, WA which happens to be fourth of July week. The home is in a perfect location! My favorite part was waking up and taking in the views around you from the deck of the water and environment every morning.
The only issue we had was the hot water tank needs to be replaced. After two showers (and we had 5 people there) the water went freezing cold each morning. Also, bring extra paper towels and toilet paper with you because there was none provided. We had an issue starting the grill and keeping the downstairs part of the house warm and looked on the fridge to contact the emergency phone number and I think the homeowners must have changed that number because it was a wrong number listed on the sheet on the fridge. We contacted the rental property 24hour number and got a response right away though.
Overall a great experience and would stay there again!Response from Vacation Doorways - 07/27/2012

Thank you for your kind comments about this wonderful home. Thanks also for reporting the paper products issue. We do routinely provide a generous starting supply paper towels and TP so we'll be looking into the shortage of these items and investigating the phone # discrepancy as well.

La Center, WAGreat location, dirty house
Left on 10/19/2011 for a stay in October 2011
Amazing location and view, however there were many cleanliness issues. 3 sets of dirty/stained pillow cases on upstairs bedroom pillows, hair/dirt on both bathroom floors/counters, stained bathroom towels, dirty dishes in cupboard and the freezer wreaked of fish from the moment we walked in the door. By the second day, the refrigerator smelled of fish despite the baking soda box in the door. By the third day, the kitchen seemed to smell of fish. Perhaps the fish "juice" had leaked down onto floor below fridge? We have rented homes on San Juan and Orcas through VRBO and the homes were immaculate. We assumed a rental through Windermere would be held to even higher standards. Dissapointed.
Response from Vacation Doorways - 10/19/2011

Thaddeus, this is so distressing to hear that the house was not prepared to either your or our standards. This is a very popular home and overall our guests are extrememly happy with Robinson's Cove as well as our other properties. Your experience is a very unusual occurence and I will be investigating where we went wrong in preparing the home for you.

Rhinebeck, New YorkKnock out view; comfortable house
Left on 10/01/2011 for a stay in September 2011
You will walk in and drop your luggage--the view is breathtaking. You are feet from the water, with ferries passing, eagles swooping and whales blowing. The house itself is comfortable enough with furnishings from the eighties. The kitchen is well-stocked, even for those who really like to cook, but frankly all you'll really want to do is to sit on the deck (or inside or in the hottub) and oogle the view. We loved our few days there and would love to have stayed longer.

The view from the deck was beautiful, bedrooms were spacious, and kitchen was well equipped. The house has a huge amount of closet space and lots of extras. The people at Windermere were very helpful. We would gladly stay again. Thanks for a great experience.

Left on 09/02/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Stayed here for a few days with our two young children and some extended family. Plenty of space, and two living areas makes it easy for the kids to have their own space to play. The kitchen was amazingly well equipped. A few of the closet doors came off the tracks really easily, but I think that's a hazard of sliding doors.
We saw seals and otters from the deck and were treated to a spectacular flight show by a bald eagle. -

Our family enjoyed our time at Robinson's Cove. The view was amazing. We enjoyed preparing and sharing meals in the large kitchen. There were so many things to do without even going out of the driveway - puzzles, scrabble, foosball, the hot tub, enjoying the view from the deck, playing croquet and basketball, exploring on the beach, and the list goes on and on. This was the perfect spot for our family vacation this year!

Left on 06/07/2011 for a stay in June 2011
The house is beautiful, clean, and great location. Unfortunately, the hot tub did not heat up and there was no contact information to call to have this issue addressed. Also, I was not pleased with all the hidden fees
Response from Vacation Doorways - 06/08/2011
Manager
We are sorry that you had difficulty with the hot tub and have issued a credit for your inconvenience. However, we don't understand the difficulty in contacting us for assistance because our Friday Harbor office was staffed 8:30-5:30 on all days of your stay and both office and a 24 hour contact phone number were provided on the arrival instructions you referenced to enter the home. These phone numbers are again provided on the front cover and inside the home info manual. Your comment regarding hidden fees is also puzzling because all applicable charges are clearly stated on the website property overview, policy, and booking pages, and again specifically detailed in the booking confirmation. Regardless, we appreciate your positive comments about this lovely home and hope to see you again!

Mountlake Terrace, WAA Perfect Wedding Spot
Left on 10/27/2010 for a stay in October 2010
We love the San Juan Islands and were fortunate to find Robinson Cove for our wedding. We were married on the balcony and could not have asked for a more beautiful day and scenery back drop. Our guests were thrilled to see sea otters, purposes, and sea lions. The county park is a short walk away and is perfect for beach combing. The house was stocked with everything we needed. The beds are very comfortable. The wood for the fire place was well stocked.
The down side. We were swarmed with bees on the back balcony and they often got into the house during our stay so we spent a lot of time on bee removal as well as bee swatting during our ceremony. -

Left on 10/04/2010 for a stay in September 2010
It's unfortunate that we had to worry about killing bugs during our stay but didn't feel it was because of negligent housekeeping. The homeowner should have it checked out though.
Response from Vacation Doorways - 10/04/2010
Manager
Sorry about the bugs! We do live closely with nature on the Islands and try to avoid chemicals - unfortunately that can result in"sharing" a bit more of the interior spaces than we prefer. There are also "seasons" for various insects and they disappear when the premises are treated periodicallly. Thanks for the tip and we'll investigate.

This house was absolutly wonderful and there really were no complaints. We enjoyed this house with a couple large group of friends for a three day weekend and it turned out great. There was plenty of room, large kitchen and amazing view to enjoy all day and evening! The only complaint is there is really not much beach access but the view definitly makes up for that.

During our stay we saw deer, bald eagles and otters all from the deck! You couldn't ask for better views! The only downside to our stay would be that we were given the wrong code to the keybox and some of the towels had a musty smell. Other than that everything was wonderful! I would definitely recommend to a friend or stay here on our next trip!
