My wife and I are Canadian citizens and are now semi-retired in Italy providing genealogy research to those with Italian roots. We have created a guest apartment to accomodate these clients and others who just want a 'real' Italian experience away from (but accessible to)the major tourist sites.

Sore is a lovely town just outside of Rome. The downtown has all the top notch shops that you'd find in Rome but without the mass of tourists.
Be sure to visit the monastery outside of town (with it's unique Pompei-inspired pagan murals), and take a walk up to the castle for a beautiful view of the city.
