The historic Ellison Hotel was built in 1913, famous early guests reportedly included comedy duo Laurel & Hardy, and silent screen stars Lillian Gish & Mary Pickford. The Ellison was converted to apartments in the 1950's. Some years later, a tenant named James Morrison, a young and brash student from UCLA ultimately drops out of film school to form The Doors.
Situated in North Venice (bordering Santa Monica), The Ellison is just steps away from the world famous Venice Beach Boardwalk, a 15 minute bike ride puts you at Santa Monica Pier. The neighborhood is bohemian with most residents being young creative professionals. Many fine and casual dining and shopping options within walking distance.
