Philip & I first rented Blue Shutter Cottage as newlyweds in 2006. He had visited Bear Paw with his family as a child and I surprised him with a weekend getaway there! His mother lived at Bear Paw until she was in the 7th grade, as her father worked for TVA helping to build Hiwassee Dam. The village at Bear Paw was originally constructed as housing for the workers and their families because the area was not really settled back in the 1930s. Philip is a Clay County, NC native, born and raised on a small working farm. I'm originally from Nashville, Tennessee. We both are employed by nonprofit conservation organizations that, in different ways, work to preserve quality of life for mountain residents. We are also avid hikers and general outdoor enthusiasts and would be happy to help point you toward trails in the area suited to your taste and ability! Regardless of why you want to come to the mountains, we will do whatever we can to make your mountain getaway enjoyable.
