A bit about us,
Nature lovers at heart we've always looked for that place “where the sidewalk ends.” Our home in Cape Meares became a launching pad for our family, children, and grandchildren to find out for themselves the wonders of nature. We soon discovered bike riding to the end of the spit with the ocean on one side and Tillamook Bay on the other, watching sea lions, eagles, loons, and wild life along the way, picking huckleberries and fishing off the jetty before heading home. Another morning we’d find a herd of elk munching grass in the yard. A quick skip to the beach and low tides allow a day of exploring tide pools and caves filled with strange wiggly sea anemones and fist sized agates. Fly fishing in local streams, or a quick walk from the house, the lake freshly stocked with fish offers bobbin fishing, salamanders, and frogs along the way. Whether it’s winter storms, sunny days, beach combing, crabbing, bird watching, or surfing, Cape Meares, for our family is that magical place where the Ocean, the sky, mountains and forest come together.
Where the Sidewalk Ends
by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.
