    Füssen and surroundings:
    MOUNTAINS, LAKES and ROYAL PALACES
From the mountain peaks of the beautiful Allgäu mountains around Füssen and Bad Faulenbach there are wonderful and impressive views over the resort area Füssen in the Allgäu. Worth the visit is this, the highest town in Bavaria, on the edge of the Alps. Füssen - Bad Faulenbach is known for its mineral baths and spa resort.
Small but mighty - this is Bad Faulenbach presented as the health resort of Füssen, the spa district. A picturesque stone bridge is the only access road to Bad Faulenbach and leads through the Morisse, through which you get to the beautiful parkland of Faulenbacher valley.
In the protected area of Bad Faulenbach warm lakes are inviting you to jump into the cool water. The well-maintained hiking trails in summer vacation and in the winter holiday to go hiking.
Lechfall at Füssen im Allgäu: A few minutes away from our apartment house is a natural spectacle of a special kind - namely the Lech Falls on the southern outskirts of Füssen (within walking distance of Bad Faulenbach). From here there are more worthwhile excursions around Füssen in the Allgäu.
Füssen - Bad Faulenbach with its bracing climate promotes good health. Füssen is 808 meters above sea level and is ideal for spa stays. Classic Kneipp cures, peat applications and physiotherapy in the sanatorium and spa are available nearby.
Neuschwanstein Castle: The beauty of the Allgäu countryside is matched only by the world-famous marble-white fairy tale castle Neuschwanstein. Opposite stands the castle of Hohenschwangau, where King Ludwig II of Bavaria spent his youth. Here you will find a description of an autumn hike to Neuschwanstein Castle.
Alatsee: The Alatsee is not like all the many lakes in the Füssen area down in the valley, but on top of a ridge. From our hospitable apartment house you conveniently reach the Alatsee via a paved road that is closed to car traffic. A walk around the Alatsee is an experience in every season, especially as an exciting popular detective story has chosen our Alatsee for its setting.
Former Benedictine monastery of St. Mang: Above the shimmering blue-green waves of the river Lech stands the former monastery with the church of St. Mang, whose earliest traces go back to an Irish monk named Magnus.
Forggensee ship trips: Glide effortlessly with one of the most beautiful ships of the fleet over the 12 km long Füssener reservoir of the mountain river Lech and be enchanted by the sight of the scenic splendor of the Königswinkel. Forggensee is the fifth largest lake in Bavaria.
Golf in the Allgäu: hiking, climbing and cycling - in the Allgäu for granted as now the game of golf, a sport that has thrilled more and more followers, and here, in the magnificent Allgäu countryside, better than anywhere on an Allgäu "Green." Let us introduce the golf course on the Gsteig, a farm that was rebuilt with all requirements for an 18 hole golf course. See for yourself!
Cycling: Our Allgäu landscape was made to be explored by bicycle. Regardless of whether comfortably coasting along paved and well marked trails with the City Council or on rough-grip tire studs sweaty trail steeply uphill with the MTB ... the best tours you can find us just outside the front door!
Walking, hiking and mountain climbing: In the immediate vicinity of our apartment house are many attractive walks and there are countless mountain peaks can be climbed in a variety of difficulty levels. Detailed information about the mountains are numerous. The spectrum of the offer is large and extends far out into the Austrian Alps.
More travel info about Fuessen: Fuessen is an enchanting town—at 808 meters the highest town in Bavaria—and offers numerous cultural and natural attractions. The world famous Neuschwanstein castle is nearby, and opportunities for hiking and skiing are everywhere. Besides touring the town’s late Gothic “High Castle” (Hohes Schloss), you should also consider visiting the Wieskirche, a Baroque pilgrimage church which is honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some visitors come to tour the castles and leave immediately afterward leaving Fuessen unexplored. This is a great pity as there is much to see in Fuessen and the surrounding area if you know what you are looking for! There are magnificent lakes with beautiful views and Hohenschwangau Castle, where King Ludwig II grew up.

Not What We Expected But Still a Good Option

Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in June 2012

My wife and I, along with two friends stayed here for six days in June; during a month long trip of Europe. For those unfamiliar with the area, the advertisement photographs can be very misleading (the Birkeneck has no view looking down upon Neuschwanstein Castle) and the actual castle view is from a distance across the valley. But, the drive over to the castle wasn't too far and lake Forggensee was extremely close. We took one of the boat trips around the lake and found it to be very relaxing and enjoyable. You'll also find some very nice restaurants along the lake shore and nearby. The Gasthof am See, along the shore of the lake is one of these. The location provided a great jumping off point for our visits to the nearby castles, the Wieskirche, Oberammergau, Ettal, the Zugspitze, Garmish-Partenkirchen, and augsburg.

Shortly after arrival we were greeted by the apartment and given a good overview of the unit and things to do in the area. This was made a bit difficult in that we didn't speak German and the manager spoke only broken English. Nevertheless, she worked hard to try and make us feel welcomed and did just that.

As for the apartment itself: it was very clean, appeared well maintained and the rooms accommodated the four of us very well and the unit is fitted out with all the basic amenities. Finding an apartment with two bathrooms in Germany is challenging; so that was a real plus and the two here are very nice. Just be aware that the bathrooms are not adjacent to the bedrooms. So, if you're shy about roaming in the night in your pj's be ready to stroll across the hallway.

Now, while all the basic amenities are provided don't expect much else. This isn't fitted out as a 4 or 5 star unit but will meet your essential needs. For instance, while we didn't come to watch TV, the TV only had one english speaking channel (CNN); probably not an issue unless you're trying to occupy kids in the evening or want to watch something besides the news. The only other major problem was the clothes dryer. The building is equipped with one of the european Eco type dryer's; essentially a dehumidifier for clothes...a single load can take an hour or more to dry. Don't expect to just pop a load of laundry in the washer..toss it in the dryer and be on your way quickly. It won't happen.

While it wasn't the 4 or 5 star accommodations we had expected and it did not have the close-up view of the castle, which it appeared to have from the marketing photographs; if you just understand what you are getting and want a very nice place to relax and unwind then we would still recommend this apartment to anyone visiting the area. It's clean, well maintained, the surroundings are beautiful and it is centrally located for visiting this gorgeous area of Germany.
