The ancient towns of Gaeta and Formia are located on the Ulysses Riviera, an area of stunning beauty and historical importance on the Mediterranean Sea halfway between Rome and Naples. Many of the great families of Republican and Imperial Rome built summer villas on this coast, and the wealthy families of Rome continue to do so to this day. The Gulf of Gaeta offers water sports from swimming to sailing, snorkeling and sail-boarding. The Aurunci Mountains that provide the striking silvery backdrop to the coast offer hiking opportunities. Or, if you choose, you can lie by the sea, soak up the sun, and relax. Gaeta and Formia offer many wonderful restaurants that serve seafood caught daily in the bay. The towns also have extensive Roman ruins to explore, along with medieval churches and the splendid Turk's Grotto on Monte Orlando. Rome and Naples are about an hour away by train, making Villa Accetta an excellent home base for exploration of the cities, Pompeii, Amalfi, Sperlonga and more, without having to deal with city traffic.

This is the second time I have stayed at Villa accetta and I don't think I could find a more peaceful place to be. Each time I have stayed in the small studio apartment, directly on little bay with water lapping under my window. The apartment is spotless and very tastefully furnished. The owner, Kiki accetta, does everything possible to make her guests feel at home. As a solo traveller who loves long walks, there are many places to go. The supermarket (well, maybe the best supermarket you have ever been to) is a seven minute walk away. And the bus and train connections can take you into the center of Rome or Naples in a little more than an hour.

Long Beach, MSPerfect Italian Escape

Villa accetta is the perfect vacation escape. The apartments are very comfortable and fully equipped. It sits perched directly on the Bay of Gaeta. To say the sunsets over the bay are breathtaking is a huge understatement! The villa is walking distance to markets and transportation. Gaeta is conveniently located within easy driving distance or even quicker train ride to Rome and Naples. The town of Gaeta is so charming, though, you could spend your whole holiday right there!
The owner, Ms. Kiki, is an absolute angel. She speaks fluent Italian and English. We had a medical emergency during our visit and had it not been for her, we would have been lost.
I will definitely return to Italy soon and would never consider staying anywhere but here. So, I don't recommend you stay here - I insist!!

Villa accetta felt like home after a long day of sight-seeing. The apartment was very clean and comfy and the grounds were gorgeous. You can get to the heart of Gaeta or Formia (where the train station is) in minutes on the bus, so there's no need for a car.
