Quiet paradise with exceptional food for retreats and weddings

Left on 05/30/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I attended a yoga retreat for mums and babes here recently and was happily surprised with the state of the cabins since my last visit three years ago, and with the renos to the beautiful lodge and great room, the focus on recycling, local products, tasty meals, and exceptional customer service! The current owner Jesse is creating a wonderful canine friendly retreat for groups (all accommodations are three bedroom cabins), offering delicious healthy meals (vegetarian or meat), accommodations, catering, photography, and even daycare if required. The log cabins are mostly two-story and have new furnishings including comfortable beds, well-appointed kitchens, (microwave free!), decks, wifi, flat screen tv's, dvd players and a video/book library available at the lodge. They have small wood stoves and the lodge features a large fireplace as well. The property is idyllic, with 12 acres of meadow and forest, overlooking the ocean, well marked trails, stoneworks, and a beach nearby. The sunsets are remarkable. We watched a variety of birds, including two pair of eagles, soaring and swooping around us, and the clear spring nights were full of frog symphonies and cricket calls, while at other times the beautiful sound of silence. The owner has obviously worked very hard to ensure his guests have a positive experience...A fine chef himself, influenced by an early relationship with Chambar in Vancouver, our vegetarian meals were always creative, delicious and unique. I really recommend Bodega Ridge to families and groups.

      Wonderful spot for a wedding!

Left on 09/12/2011 for a stay in August 2011

We were 1 week into a road trip with 2 young boys (2 & 4) when we arrived at Bodega Ridge for a good friends wedding. Looking forward to the celebration and seeing old school friends, I hadn't really paid much attention to the accommodations. We were so spoiled. My family shared a cabin with another family with 2 young children and there was plenty of room for all. There were great views from both upper and lower balconies, nice beds and pillows and everything was clean. Nothing fancy, but clean and tidy. We were able to put the kids to bed and return to the wedding festivities - a 30 sec walk between. The food was absolutely amazing, everything was delicious. The beverages served at the bar incorporated locally picked blackberries - yum!

The wedding ceremony took place a short hike up the hill which would've been restrictive for members of my family, but everyone at this wedding made it. It overlooked the ocean and the lighting was phenomenal around 5:30ish when the ceremony took place.

My husband took in some of the mountain biking in the area (which the staff are more than willing to help you find) and some of the ladies did a nice trail run the morning of the wedding. There is a nearby "beach" which is pretty rocky, but the drive to Montague harbour is short.

I am honestly looking for a reason to go back.

Great place for a wedding & party

Left on 08/27/2011 for a stay in August 2011

We stayed at Bodega Ridge for a wedding party. The ceremony took place on a hill behind the cabins. A romantic, secluded spot with the fantastic landscape as backdrop. But still nicely catered for with chairs & a champagne reception.

The staff are all very friendly, helpful as well as being competent and efficient. I was impressed how quickly they got on first name terms with such a big group as ours. Owner/operator Jesse makes a mean cocktail - try his wild blackberry Tom Collins if you get a chance!

The 3-bedroom cabin we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well-equipped with pots, utensils, etc. Living/eating room was sufficiently large and comfortable for the 6 people staying there, plus various friends wandering through. The deck is perfect for day time sun-lounging by day or star-gazing by night.

Bodega Ridge is located at the northern end of Galiano, about 30 minutes drive from the ferry at Sturdies Bay, or 20 mins from Montague Harbour Marina. Closer by are several good spots for walking, cycling or just taking in the view.

Bodega Ridge is even better in the winter

Left on 03/26/2010 for a stay in December 2009

For the last few years my family has booked a couple of cozy cabins for
some post Christmas through New Year's quite time. It's the perfect place to
wind down and read a book next to the fire in a real log cabin. Bodega will
host retreats as well so maybe the office will set us up for a stay before the
      summer rush.

Jesse (the owner of Bodega) strikes a really nice balance of letting his guests
feel that the cabin is their own during the stay but is always available should
you need anything like a map of local trails or some extra firewood. For New
Year's this year he made sure that everybody felt welcome and included for
the mother of all bonfires. Even if the weather isn't friendly the main room in
      the lodge always is.

If you live in Vancouver and need a break from the city and the rain check it
out. The grey skys don't persist over the Gulf Island like they do in the lower
mainland. Also, being the first stop on the ferry route makes getting to
      Bodega a breeze.

For a real Gulf Islands experience you have to check Bodega Ridge out.
