* Stunning lodge below Storm Castle Peak, one of the prettiest spots in the scenic Gallatin River Canyon.
* A hot tub is just above the river for relaxing after a day of skiing, fishing or hiking.
* Seven night minimum during the summer with Saturday arrival and departure. Brief Description: This incredibly handsome lodge is built at the location of the fishing scenes in the classic movie “A River Runs Through It” in the Gallatin River Canyon between Bozeman and Big Sky. There are stunning views of the cliffs and the summit of Storm Castle from almost every room. From the deck you’ll enjoy the sound of the river just down th...e slope, pines all around, and the view across the river to the rock wall of Castle Rock. In addition to the lodge’s beautiful décor, you’ll enjoy a great stereo system, a 42” TV in the great room and in each bedroom, along with wireless Internet throughout the lodge.
Bedrooms and bathrooms: The home has four bedrooms and extra sleeping space in three different areas – the den, the loft, and the TV room off the bunkroom. The lodge has 3.5 baths. The master bedroom, just off the great room, has a king size bed, double doors to the deck and the river, and a private bath with two sinks and a large shower with a river pebble floor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a loft. The bedrooms have a king and a queen size bed and the loft has a queen sleeper sofa. These areas share a bath with a tub & shower, 2 sinks and a large closet. At the other end of the home, the bunkroom has two sets of bunk beds, one a double/twin, the other a twin/twin setup. The attached TV room is a great kid zone with a TV/DVD/satellite setup and a double size futon couch. The bunkroom also includes a bath with tub and shower. The last sleeping space is a queen sleeper sofa in the den off the great room. There’s also a half bath just off the kitchen.
Kitchen and dining: The well-appointed kitchen has granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a large walk-in pantry. There is a bar counter that seats 4 for chatting with the cook, and the dining table that seats 10 comfortably. There is also a gas barbecue for your outdoor grilling.
Great room: The great room has an amazing bank of windows looking out to the river canyon. There’s a vaulted ceiling, a large stone wood burning fireplace, comfortable seating for a crowd, and a wet bar with a fridge and sink. It’s a wonderful room for gathering! There’s a stereo, iPod docking station, TV, DVD, and in-wall speakers for stereo and TV surround sound.
Office: If you need to do a bit of work during your stay, you’ll enjoy the very comfortable den just off the great room. It’s equipped with comfortable seating, a nice built in desk, and wireless Internet.
Setting, acreage, and views: This lodge is situated at the filming location for the great fishing scenes in the classic “A River Runs Through It”. Hollywood chooses locations carefully, and they did well on this one. The Storm Castle cliffs are spectacular, and the view up-river to Garnet Peak is beautiful.
Outdoor Amenities: The highlight is a large deck accessed from the great room, dining room and master bedroom. From this vantage point, you’re looking up at the incredible cliffs and down towards the Gallatin River. With a picnic table in the yard, a hot tub & stereo speakers on the deck, it’s a perfect place to spend your evenings.
Activities nearby: Besides fishing right out the door, hiking, skiing and whitewater rafting are nearby. One of our favorite river outfitters is just up the road, and there are great hiking trailheads within a few miles. Big Sky and Moonlight Basin Ski areas are about 30 minutes away. For an especially memorable experience in the park, book a specialized private tour with our sister company, Greater Yellowstone Guides.
Additional amenities include: on 1-5 acres, no cell phone service, less than 30 min to town, 1 hour to yellowstone park, washer & dryer, ironing board.Read more

This is our third visit to Montana from the UK and our first visit to the Galllatin. The house itself is beautiful and extremely well-equipped and comfortable. The beds were great as were all the bathrooms, tons of hot water! The hot tub was an added bonus which we all enjoyed too. We did, however, feel slightly mis-led about the proximity of the (very) busy road so close to the house and sadly, we were very disappointed in the garden - not really a garden at all as very overgrown and with nowhere to sit or sunbathe. The steps down to the river were steep (we were all fine with them) but young children would find them a challenge! Proximity to activities was superb, white water rafting and zip lining right on our doorstep. We will return to Montana next year as we are all in love with it but probably not to this house!

The house was absolutely beautiful. It was perfect for a multi-generation family vacation. The teens had their own space in the bedroom/living area above the garage. The younger kids were able to stay close to their parents across from the master suite. The kitchen was stocked with everything we need to cook dinner nightly. Waking up to the sound of the birds singing and the Gallatin River rushing behind the house was wonderful. Working with Mountain Home Montana Vacation Rentals was very easy. They even called a few days after we arrived to make sure everything met our needs.

This was an absolutely beautiful home that worked great for our family Thanksgiving and celebrating our parents 60th wedding anniversary. The fireplace was wonderful and it had everything we needed for fixing Thanksgiving dinner. It was very well maintained and was in a great location. we'd love to go back in the summer and take advantage of all the activties nearby.

I have stayed at many Mountain Home properties this one could be the best! Beautiful home in Gallitan Canyon meet all our needs, very private river settling, great for a group, family or business retreat. Can't wait to stay there again!!
not sure it's worth the money...

The home is beautiful. However it was very difficult to get down to the river, which was unexpected. Being 7 months pregnant and having my 3 yr old there was no way I was going to try to navigate my way down there. The kitchen utensils & cookware really need to be upgraded and re-stocked. Also, luckily 2 people were not able to make it out or we would've had a room conflict as the "loft bedroom" was not a room at all. It was open between the 2 other bedrooms. There was also not much yard space for playing or picnics. The hot tub is amazing as well as the entire cabin. The view is really wonderful to wake up to! All in all this is a huge cabin, and very nice, but having stayed at another cabin with Mountain Home, just not sure this one is worth the money..? I think it's best suited for families/groups with older children and probably fabulous for fishing! (unless the river's high like it was for us)

We had our annual family gathering in Montana this year. Four generations from age 4 to 82. Crooked Canyon Lodge was the perfect place for our gathering. The home is beautiful and convenient to everything we wanted to do. The home was stocked with absolutely everything we needed...from plenty of linens to plenty of extra toilet paper and everything in between that you can think of. My family came from all over the country and everyone of them felt it was the perfect place for our vacation. We could not be more pleased!!!
met all expectations and requirements

Arranging the accommodation was relatively easy although, given we had 8 people from different states and countries, it would have been nice to actually inspect in person to ensure we chose the right setting and amenities. When we asked to do this we were denied and no real interest in accommodating us as.
The house and location exceeded expectations as part of the conference was to show case the Bozeman area and we were able to access Y/stone and horse back riding, rafting easily. The layout of the house and quality allowed 8 very different people enough room as to not annoy each other. We got allot of value out of preparing each others dinner via a very well equipped Kitchen and BBQ area.
A 360 deg review of the conference from our team had everyone saying they wanted to come back next year for a similar arrangement.

We hosted our quarterly retreat at the Crooked Canyon Lodge. Our staff stayed on site and enjoyed relaxing recreation in the afternoon. We held our meetings in the large living room under the spectacular views Castle Rock. The setting was wonderful and everyone walked away from the retreat rejuvenated. We would love to stay here again.

This was a gorgeous home on the Gallatin river at the base of castle rock. The home was spacious, with a perfect porch for enjoying the sound of the river. There were beautiful hikes to take around the house, as well as great flyfishing. It was close to Yellowstone, trail rides and fun shopping at Big Sky. The kitchen was modern and the beds were super comfortable. We enjoyed everything about this home and location!

We've rented a number of vacation homes, and usually the pictures posted show the house as being grander than it is. Not this time. It looks lovely in the pictures, but it was way better in person--an absolutely stunning house. The furnishings, the floors, the fireplace--all are just beautiful. We were 9 people--two families with college-aged kids and a couple of their extra friends--and the house had plenty of room for us all to be together when we wanted to be and apart when we didn't. We love to cook and found the kitchen extremely well-equipped with good knives, pans, etc. (though don't count on any particular condiment or staple being there--buy what you need). Our chief interest other than eating, reading and relaxing was hiking, and the nearby hiking was amazing. All of the trails that start along the main road are beautiful--particularly Lava Lake and Hell Roaring. The climb up to the top of Storm Castle (a peak that you see from the house) is tough, but worth it. Be sure to drive out Spanish Creek Rd. through Ted Turner's Flying D ranch clear up to the Spanish Peaks campground. The road most of the way isn't paved, but very well maintained, and you're guaranteed to see hundreds of buffalo (sometimes the herd is crossing the road in front of you). We also saw two moose and a bear at different times along the road. The hikes from the campground are great, too. That said, Crooked Canyon Lodge isn't the place for you if you want to be near town. Nothing is really walking distance from the house-- even the hikes. If you forgot to buy something you need for dinner, it's more than 15 miles to get to a place that sells it. And at least in late June and early July, the river was running too fast to actually make much use of having river access (though the sound made a lovely backdrop). Oh, and the internet is SLOW (and only one laptop could be on at a time). Still, we all loved every minute of our stay. It really couldn't be nicer.
Great location and peaceful setting!

The staff at Mountain Home was both accessible and very helpful while being non-intrusive. The house itself was beautiful both inside and out. The views from the windows were stunning and peaceful. The furniture, furnishings, and amenities were up to date and classy. I loved the location of this house because it was private yet easily accessible. Our family was looking forward to a Currier and Ives Christmas card style Christmas and this home provided the perfect back drop for it. I would enthusiastically recommend this home to my friends and I would definitely stay there again.

The cabin was very peaceful. We had a wonderful time. Lots of room for everyone. The cabin did have bad water pressure. Only 1 item running at time. (Put sprinkler system to run during night time). Cabin was very clean and had everything alvailable to cook with.

We rented this home for a Montana vacation with my extended family (grandma and grandpa, kids, and grandkids). There were enough separate sleeping areas, beds, bathrooms, and closets, that everyone slept great and had plenty of room for their stuff. We loved the huge great room and kitchen, where all 12 of us could eat or hang out together at the same time and not feel crowded. The furniture and beds were comfortable and attractive, and the decorating was very well done. We loved the fun 20's-era B&W photgraphs on the walls!
We did a lot of cooking, and the kitchen was very well-appointed with high-quality cookwear and appliances. And what a nice mountain view to look out of the kitchen window while doing the dishes.
We spent our evenings on the deck and in the hot tub, with the stunning Stormcastle mountain as a backdrop. Being from Minnesota, it was a treat for us that there weren't many mosquitos.
We took advantage of the tips for places to shop, things to do in the area, and how to tackle Yellowstone Park. It was a nice added touch to give a local perspective.
The only issue we had was with the internet connection being a little slow, which I guess is understandable in such a remote location. My husband had to spend some time in Bozeman to get some of his work done.
We felt so at home there; everyone was sad to leave and we will definitely try to come back again soon. We took a lot of photographs, but unfortnuately they cannot capture the fresh piney smell of the mountains or the constant soundtrack of the Gallatin River rushing by. It really was lovely.

The absolute best family vacation I have ever had.
The accomadations were spectacular to say the least. The access to the river, fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking, horseback riding and the views made the experience a religious one. The kids were able to stay entertained without the use of video games, never heard the statement I'm bored or what are we going to do next? Was so much fun it shouldn't be legal!

I am very glad we chose to stay at Crooked Canyon. It was a fantastic home that had all the amenities. The location was beautiful. We enjoyed the fishing, hiking, rafting, and everything else the area had to offer! We look forward to staying here again and appreciate the help of the mountain home staff. Thank you very much!
