Description from the owner
Auraliya was named to evoke the aura of the elephant and was originally built with an elephant bath in the half acre garden. The house is situated on a one acre plot leading on to Palutagaha beach which borders Thalpe and Habaraduwa. Approximately 15 minutes drive south of the Unesco heritage town of Galle on Sri Lanka's south west coast, Palutagaha beach is one of the south west coast's most picturesque swimable beaches and the lagoon offers a high degree of safety from the strong currents.
Auraliya, which is on the sea side of the Galle Matara Road, is designed with cloisters of coconut palm columns surrounding water features and fra...Read more

Our 5 families stayed here for 4 nights of total indulgence. The house is truly spectacular. Crystal Pool & perfect beach in one. There staff are excellent & deal with your every whim. There was nothing they could not fulfil. Sonny, Vijay, Banda and the rest of their large team are literally at your feet from the time you open your eyes in the morning until you sleep at night. They are truly amazing & ever so friendly; filled with information & smiles all round. The house is fully equipped with spotless huge bathrooms & bedrooms, icy air-conditioning with fans as well. Rooms are serviced continuously all day - pretty much every time you come out of the room they service it! We had pool parties, dinner parties, local entertainment & total fun.
The beach is pristine, the house is immaculately beautiful, staff highly trained & everything you could think of is provided. nights was no where enough time to enjoy this paradise home. You don't need to go out for anything. Food was cooked in house was delicious . Could not possibly rate this highly enough. The pictures on the websites do not even begin to do this spectacular place justice. Highly recommend this place of paradise.

We were lucky enough to stay at auraliya for ten nights in Sept 12. Everything on the website is true, actually even better! From the moment we arrived (in a torrential downpour that lasted several hours) we were made to feel so very welcome and treasured.
The staff are perfect, unobtrusive but always on hand at just the right time. Vijay in particular was just so wonderful. Whether he was anticipating when we needed more ice for our evening drinks to being right there whenever we woke (which was usually early with the small children) to serve our preferred hot beverage he just did it all so effortlessly!
My husband loved planning the meals with Jagith the chef, and we all loved the fact we could buy fresh lobster straight from the fishermen at the back gate. The meals were all delicious. We ate local cuisine almost exclusively and were never disappointed. Poor Vijay had to set the meal table twice over every night as the littlies would eat early and we adults would eat much later. The table always looked beautiful and every meal was memorable.
The villa itself is spacious and super comfortable. Lots of space to stretch out and for the kids to run around and do their own thing. The chill out open air lounge area is just perfect for relaxing and watching the kids splash around in the massive pool. the TV room came in handy for the kids after dinner while we relaxed.
The rooms were kept spotlessly clean by Bundah, who is quiet but still lovely. He and the security guards seemed to always be mindful of our safety and well being. The aircon works a treat on those really hot nights.
We didnt see too much of Sunny the manager as he had pressing family matters to attend to for much of the time we were there but from what I did see, he was charming and helpful.
When we were there, the beach was lovely and calm during the morning but picked up a fairly strong current in the afternoons. It was still swimmable but not for the really little kiddies unless you were holding on to them.
We hosted some of my husband's family (Sri Lankans) for a special lunch one day and the staff bent over backwards to ensure everything was perfect. It meant a lot to us as my husbands grandmother is in ailing health and it was a great time for our children to connect with their great grandmother.
Overall, I cannot recommend auraliya enough. If you have the chance to go there, don't hesitate...book it. It really is paradise. I hope to return one day. -

Possibly one of the most idyllic spots left on this planet.
Extremely comfortable and every little necessity taken care of by a delightful team of staff.
Every meal,of which there are plenty, carefully planned and presented. Beware of coming home a few kgs heavier.
A trip into the fort part of Galle town is a must, lovely shops and not a brand name in site - "heaven"
Unfortunately we were not there long enough to take the bike trail nor the whale watching so look forward to going back again...
We left feeling totally spoilt and would truly love to repeat the experience.

This house was magnificent. I've never stayed in such a wonderful place before. The furnishings were lovely, the bathrooms were twice the size of my bedroom at home, the location was brilliant - beach outside the back gate and a short auto ride to restaurants, bars and Galle - and the staff were attentive, professional, thoughtful and caring. All the meals were delicious, our laundry was done and we had a magical time. And for all this, we paid less than any of the hotels we stayed at in Colombo. I would absolutely stay there again and recommend auraliya.

I stayed in auraliya with my extended family. We arrived there after a 10 day trip around Sri Lanka visiting the major attractions. when we got out of our coach and entered the beautiful house we couldn't wipe the smiles off of our faces.
The staff were fantastic as was the food. The whole house was made for relaxing and unwinding. we had to tear ourselves away to visit the local sites.
we had organised a bicycle ride through the paddy fields on the suggestion of the owner, Aloise. That was just magic. I also organised a performance by kandyan dancers on our last night, it was my brother's 40th birthday, everyone was enchanted by it, and that was also suggested by aloise.
The beach just outside the back gate was a real treat. I'd often find my mother (a young 69 year old) frolicking in the shallows in the mornings. My father would walk up and down the beach, with the security guard keeping an eye on them, I didn't have to worry. everything was taken care for us, from the laundry, to the meals. we're all trying to figure out how we can get back there again. -

singaporeThe ultimate family indulgence
Left on 08/30/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Our young family of 5 enjoyed the 'Auraliya experience' for a week in late June 2012. The west coast of Sri Lanka experiences the annual monsoon at this time of the year however the weather was perfect for us the whole time.
Auraliya is located a leisurely 10 minute tuk tuk ride from Galle in the sleepy beachside hamlet of Thalpe. The villa is set on a vast block with a protected swimming beach and quality snorkelling available at your doorstep. For us the location couldn't of been better; we loved having the option of the total seclusion and privacy of auraliya yet still having easy access to the local attractions such as Galle fort, Koggala lake, sea turtle sancturies, the lively bars and restaurants of Unawatuna etc.
What makes auraliya a truly unforgettable experience is undoubtedly the staff. Jugga the chef was world class. Planning each days menus with Jugga was a delightful treat and we had a morning going to the local markets and buying supplies which was a cultural treat for us all. The presentation of meals was superb and the marriage of flavours exquisite. Sunny and Vijay were always on hand to cater for your every whim whether it be a perfect gin and tonic, organising an excursion or just having a chat. Our kids loved them all dearly and still talk about them daily.
The entire experience was both seamless and sincere. One knew that the only concerns aloise and the auraliya staff had was your comfort and happiness. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and could not recommend it highly enough.

This place is amazing as it is like having a superb small boutique hotel all to yourself. It is spacious, with huge bedrooms and en suites and outside has lots of room, including both dining and relaxing 'pavilions'. A large pool between them allows refreshing dips whenever the heat proves too fierce and a gate opens directly on to a wide sandy beach with sheltered swimming. The staff couldn't be more attentive without being instrusive and add hugely to the whole experience. Not cheap, but worth every penny!

Left on 04/10/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Villa auraliya is just stunning and perfectly structured/designed for a family holiday. We spent a week there at a family get together to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We had a wonderful time and cherish our memories from our stay there!
The rooms and bathrooms are so spacious: we loved the fact that there is a choice of indoor or outdoor shower as well as a huge bath, what a luxury! The beds were huge and super comfortable. The girls loved each having a four poster bed! The turn down service and anti-mosquito precautions were excellent. The villa's location on the first line of the sea is precious. Listening to and watching the waves all day and night is just the best destresser & our idea of bliss! The beach & sea water were really clean and there were very few people on the beach most of the time. But the sea was very wavy with quite a strong current we found, so we had to be cautious when the kids were in. But it was comforting to see the security guard always watchful of everyone who was at the beach from the villa. We really felt he was taking his job seriously.
The service in the villa was really excellent and the staff were very helpful especially when we were designing menus which sometimes was challenging for a group of 10 (with the kids who ate earlier and needed blander food). The Chef at the villa Jagath was excellent ; & Wije, the sweet butler, was always on hand asking if we needed a drink, a tea or coffee, always discretely and at the right time. The cleaning of the rooms was equally always done discretely & at a convenient time.
We asked the Chef for mainly local Sri Lankan dishes as we love to sample local curries and spicy foods; in particular we loved his chicken, fish and prawn curries with all the vegetable side dishes like beetroot curry and lentil dahl. The baked Sri Lankan fish with spicy sliced oven potatoes was outstanding as were his pumpkin/beetroot/feta salad (my favourite) and Thai Chicken salad. For desserts, his banana fritters were just scrumptious, so much so we had them twice!
Regarding planning my husband’s birthday dinner & family party, the villa owner was extremely helpful in her recommendations and on the day Jagath and Sunny (the day to day manager) were as extremely helpful . The Chef did a special Sri Lankan breakfast and at night, we had a seafood feast including fresh crabs and prawns. All the staff helped us launch Sky Lanterns that we had brought with us as a birthday treat!
We found the driver Rohan excellent , very likeable, professional & trustworthy . We also used the Tuk Tuks on a couple of occasions to visit the local turtle hatchery and to go to Galle, which was fun for the kids!
There is lots to do if one wishes in and around the area (although staying in the villa is enough in itself!). We did several excursions from the villa including a bicycle ride (organised by alex from Idle Tours) through the rice fields (magnificent) and a river boat ride (spotting river nature and stopping at a cinnamon island) organised by the driver Rohan.
We would highly highly recommend Villa auraliya and have already started doing so to all our friends and acquaintances; we wish to avidly thank the villa owner for all her pre-planning help & tips in the weeks leading up to our trip. We also look forward to returning in the future!Response from Aloise Price - 04/17/2012

We booked through reccommendation to stay two weeks at auraliya and from Qatar it made an ideal visit for us with only a few hours flight with my young son.
From our arrival the staff kicked into gear like professionals highly trained at catering for the needs of guests. They were efficient and prompt and Jagath the chef was an absolute delight to talk to about menus for us and our son! He was so helpful and we loved his Sri Lankan currys so much that I still dream about them today and ate them every night for our last week. There was one of the worst sri lanka storms in a long time on our last few days and whilst we would never have expected to the staff to keep up the service despite us stuck inside they ensured we were so well looked after and got the villa back to its glory within a day so we could enjoy our last day by the pool and sitting outside once again.
I would always reccommend this villa to anyone especially with kids of all ages who don't want to think about cooking, cleaning and ensure the kids are in a fabuluosly safe and secure villa with plenty of space to run around and space for everyone to have their quiet moments too. Thank you for a absolutely wonderful holiday I never thought I would relax this much and as my mum said at the end she wished could could transplant the villa to every destination she ever went again! -

I have been fortunate to be a frequent visitor to auraliya. It is my favourite place on Earth. I cannot think of a better holiday destination for anyone who loves a stunning spacious villa on a pristine and safe beach.
The ever-smiling staff is always attentive, polite and efficient but still discreet to make sure visitors enjoy their privacy.
There is a new espressway to Galle that not only makes the journey from the airport comfortable & short but but also is a most scenic window into the Sri Lankan hinterland.
Auraliya is also home to Kala, Gemma and Nika - the lovely labradors who sometimes think they are harbour seals.
Enjoy auraliya and the most beautiful sunsets there.

We had a beautiful experience at auraliya. Aloise (owner and manager of the property) took care of everything for us! She was very good at corresponding and letting us know everything we need to know about transport and which meals had been chosen for our first couple of days. It was bliss to be given such personalised service and we were spoiled from the minute we landed until we arrived back to the airport.
The villa itself is luxurious and gorgeous yet comfortable and practical. Perfect for large groups, as the set up of the rooms allows for privacy yet each room is just a step away from the 'hub' of the villa (which is all open air).
We used every inch of the property during our stay including the grassy yard and the fantastically perfect beach. The comfy TV room was essential on a rainy afternoon which coincided perfectly with the Rugby World Cup final.
The service of the staff and food created by Jagath, the chef, is premier and second to none. Every meal was a culinary delight and Sunny and Wije made sure we were never without a cool glass of water, wine, a banana smoothie or snacks at any point in the day. The food is some of the best I have ever had. Authentic and all homemade; from the local curries to the pesto gnocchi. They even did a special cake for my birthday - just wonderful service.
We did venture into Galle a couple of times, but found it difficult to leave the comfort and luxury of auralyia. This was certainly one of the best family holidays we have ever had and one none of us will ever forget.
We defiintely will return one day. I can't recommend it highly enough!

I am not sure if there exists a category higher than 7 star, but if it were ; I would name it auraliya. Right from the time we got in late rainy night at 11 pm, the sensitive and attentive staff took care of every small need. The property is itself designed aesthetically, and practically ; and is more than comfortable. The well stocked library offers enough reading material to a 10 year old as it would to anyone much older. We are already planning our second holiday there.

Often villas don't live up to your expectations based on their advertising and photos, but auraliya isn't one of them - it is even better in real life. We have stayed at several villas in Sri Lanka now with our 3 children (age 3, 5 & 7) and auraliya by far outrates them. We have loved this villa so much we have returned 3 times (this last visit for 3 months) and each time we have returned it has been as great as we remembered.
Apart from the fantastic position on the beach (safe for swimming right outside the gate - a rarity in Sri Lanka) and its handy proximity to Galle, the thing that makes this villa really outstanding is the staff. There is a great chef and the rest of the team are friendly and completely attentive without being intrusive. Their attention to detail is never ending, they are great with kids and we felt completely pampered! The owners are also lovely to deal with and were extremely accommodating with us.
This is not your standard villa rental - this really feels like someone's home - full of thoughtful, personal touches and owned and staffed by people who are genuinely interested in making sure you are happy and comfortable and enjoy your stay.
This is a truly remarkable place we hope we get a chance to return to - it is our idea of heaven. -

The well trained staff are attentive, warm and friendly, but self effacing at the same time. The food is varied in style and of a high standard. The well appointed en-suite rooms, and indeed the whole place is kept immaculately clean.
Right on the beach, yet with privacy and security assured, Aurailya is truly the most wonderful, relaxing and invigorating place in which to 'recharge the batteries' before returning to the work-a-day world.

We are a family of four (2 kids ages 10 and 12) and stayed at auraliya for one week. It was one of the best holidays we have ever had. The setting is divine. The villa fronts onto a beach which has a coral lagoon making it safe for swimming and snorkeling. The water is crystal clear. The villa has a very large, grassy garden which was perfect for family cricket and football matches. The rooms are very comfortable and there are many options for relaxing (numerous lounges, beachside cabana, pool, beach...)
One of the best things about auraliya is definitely the staff. They are discrete, professional and anticipated our every need. The chef is excellent, the food was delicious and the presentation of the food was outstanding. A friend who is a regular visitor to Sri Lanka told me the staff at auraliya have the reputation of being the best staff of any villa in Sri Lanka and I can see why!
As for activities we went surfing at Weligama, cycling through the paddy fields, visited Galle fort, yoga with a man that came to the villa, swimming, long walks on a beautiful beach, playing with the dogs, tuk-tuk rides with the friendly Ragu, reading, relaxing, watching beautiful sunsets and a whole lot of nothing.
We would highly recommend auraliya and hope to return. -

We had the most fantastic time, from the moment we arrived we all loved the villa, it's position and the very wonderful staff that are there running the show !
The children instantly fell in love with the dogs and they played with them the whole time, as did we adults. Our constant thoughts were that we were staying in five star luxury with the added benefit of being the only ones there and it all being so personal.
The staff made the holiday for us completely, always thinking of what or where we wanted to be next, continually clearing up after us and always producing the most fantastic food. All of us ate far too much of !!
We completely fell in love with the house and with it Sri Lanka that none of us had seen before, we spent ages deciding where and how we would spend our time when we return and those plans always included a long stay if possible at auraliya !
We went out Whale watching, where we saw a large number of Blue Whales and also went on numerous Tuk Tuk journeys that the staff helped to arrange. Unfortunately my son got quite I'll with a bad ear infection, the staff could not have done more to help arranging for a doctor to come out, a middle of the night trip to the Southern Hospital and then a specialist appointment there. After which they helped nurse him back to health with constant nibbles, fruit and milkshakes etc ..
We spent our days repositioning ourselves on our sun beds and walking, swimming or playing on the beach .. Just what we wanted. All in all it is impossible to give you a better report on our time in auraliya ! We would recommend it to anyone (as long as that does not make it too popular that we can't re-book !).
It is the most amazing house and as we well know the best team running it !!
We had a very personal service pre-arrival to the moment we left we have nothing but very wonderful memories !!
Thank you !

From start to finish auraliya is a first class operation. We arrived to a hearty welcome from Sunny and the rest of the staff and were promptly given welcome drinks and shown to our rooms and around the property. The buildings and grounds are in immaculate condition and the staff does an excellent job maintaining everything. The rooms are really beautiful and the bathrooms are huge and comfortable with indoor and outdoor showers. The pictures on the website are accurate and you can trust their presentation. The pool was wonderful and the lights at night are a nice touch. Auraliya is right on the beach and in our opinion has the best stretch of beach as there is a reef a bit off shore that keeps the waves down and forms a shallower, calm pool that's perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
After we settled in Sajith came by to bring us snacks and help us figure out the menu for the week as they will go grocery shopping for you and pick up everything needed for your time there. Sajith is a fabulous cook and can make just about anything to order and we enjoyed every meal we were served.
Wije is the room attendent and the person we had the most contact with during our stay. He's prompt, doting and, always present and was eager to make sure we were always comfortable and always had everything we needed. When we wanted to head into town or needed to run an errand, the staff arranged transportation for us and helped us with recommendations.
It really was a wonderful stay and we can't wait to return. If you have an opportunity to stay at auraliya, don't pass it up as it will be one of nicest stays of your life. A truly relaxing and blissful getaway! -

The staff were great, always ready to cater for our needs and to clean up after us and especially after our children (4 under the age of 2.6). The food was exceptional and special meals were prepared for the kids. Our laundry was done at top speed, and the rooms were spotlessly clean. We are quite a critical family but there was absolutely nothing we could think of that could have been improved.
Save for a little walk down the beach to the Italian restaurant for one lunch, we didn't move from the villa. We didn't want to! It was so perfect in every way. The whole atmosphere was wonderful - the welcoming Ganesh, the Buddha statues, the the sound of the surf, the sounds and smells of life outside the gates, the palm trees, the breeze, the sun, the clouds and the rain in the evenings. Our children were very attracted to the fish in the lily pond but also loved going to see the dogs. The layout of the villa is so well done and spacious - the bedrooms on either side of the beautiful swimming pool which has magical lights and such a good playing area for young kids, the chill pavilion, the dining area, and the TV/library room. It has such a homely touch with all the necessary amenities. You don't even need to bring along books - there's a good selection in the library (we also left a few). You really did an exceptional job of rebuilding the villa after the Tsunami!

attentive. The food is delicious especially the Sri Lankan curry and Vijay makes
a wonderful latte that would rival Starbucks! The swimming pool is
mesmerizing with fibre optic lighting that twinkle at night and the gardens are
simply beautiful. The white sandy beach (which felt at times like our own
private beach) was great for swimming and snorkeling every morning and just
a 25 minute walk up the beach brings you to a turtle sanctuary where the
children were able to release baby turtles into the surf. We all enjoyed the
company of labrador Karla who is a lovable presence at Auraliya. Auraliya is
just so perfect that it is very difficult to leave. -

Left on 01/13/2010 for a stay in December 2009
Stayed for two weeks at Auraliya in December 2009 and loved the place.
The location right on the beach is supurb with ideal swimming and snorkelling conditions behind a reef for security - also great for kids. The beach stretches for 2 miles or so and is great for daytime sunshine and perfect sunsets.
The villa was spot on with all the rooms being arranged around the central pool and casual daytime lounge area. The bedrooms are ideal for the island, all with air con, and the bathrooms are huge.
One of the best parts were the staff during the stay. They were attentive 100% of the time and the level of service and quality of food exceeded expectations - so much so that we didn't eat out once!
A fantastic family villa which gave me one the best and most relaxing holiday I've had.
Highly recommended.

New York, NY USAGood Luxury option for big groups

What an experience! A super location on a quiet beach - super for taking
sunset walks. The villa was huge and and was a wonderful place to have a
large family vacation or gather up a group of friends to share a luxury
experience. The rooms had comfortable beds and mosquito nets, fans and
ac units. The bathrooms were positively huge - super for a bubble bath!
I loved the outdoor shower and the 'twinkle' lights in the pool; there were a
bunch of little extras that really made our stay there over the top. Even
with many people there - you can easily find your own 'quiet' place as there
are so many pavilions and space to spread out on the property.
The staff were so attentive it was as if they could read my mind. I don't
think I was ever left wanting a thing. Upon first arriving I sat with Sunny and
decided upon a menu for our time there. The choices were plentiful and all
of the food that Jagarth cooked had lovely presentation and tasted amazing
- I loved the Sri Lankan curry best - a real taste of the island!
I really don't have a negative thing to say about the villa - we had an
amazing vacation there lounging around the many pavilions, pool, and
beach. Even on a couple of days when it rained we still had a great time
sitting in the pavilions playing games and reading.
Oh yes - I just about forgot the lovely black lab, Kala that adopted us as her
'family'. She was the icing on the cake for us - playful and gentle; she really
made out time there fun for everyone. -

LondonA Magical Hideaway
Left on 11/21/2009 for a stay in December 2006
Auraliya is a magical hideaway... The house itself is beautiful: tastefully decorated, with large airy, but comfortable rooms arranged around the central swimming pool and pavillion areas. It is the perfect place to relax and get away from it all... But if you are feeling more energetic, there are lots of things to do: beautiful beaches, the historic city of Galle nearby with its shops and restaurants, surfing, the sea outside your backdoor with safe swimming and snorkeling not to mention swimming in the wonderful pool and cricket matches in the garden. The staff are charming and spoiled us... The food was fantastic. We spent an amazing family holiday there and would recommend Auraliya without hesitation.

Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaSlice of paradise Sri Lankan style!
Left on 11/09/2009 for a stay in January 2009
We have holidayed in Sri Lanka several times now in the Galle area. The
beautiful villa of Auraliya has become like a home away from home for my
husband, myself and our children 10,8 and 4.
Hidden behind serene wooden gates and a high wall - the spacious property
opens out, in a series of open pavilions onto stunning views of the sea with
tall coconut trees arching out languidly towards the ocean.
The house has direct access onto the beach by a private gate. The sand is
gorgeous and exotic snorkelling is possible just metres into the water.
There is a huge garden, once home to a pet elephant, which is wonderful for
the children to play cricket and football etc.
The villa is arranged around a large centrally placed swimming pool. It has
been ingeniously designed with lots of shallow ledges for wallowing and to
allow very young children plenty of areas to swim safely. At night, as if by
magic, the pool twinkles from hundreds of optic fibre lights which add even
more to the enchantment of the villa. Best enjoyed after a day on the beach,
with a gin and tonic in hand!
All the bedrooms are huge and airy with huge 4 poster beds draped in fine
cotton muslin mosquito nets. The bathrooms are equally huge and
charmingly styled in typical Sri Lankan terrazzo finishes. The scent of
cinnamon hangs luxuriously in the air from the carefully oiled furniture.
The Villa comes with several full time staff who cook, clean and generally
take care of your every need. Meals are served either in the main dining
pavilion overlooking the centrally placed swimming pool or in the pavilion
overlooking the sea. The food is fantastic! Choose from the menu selection.
The nearby historic city of Galle offers plenty to do and wonderful
restaurants. Surfing beaches, dolphin watching, rice paddies and inland trails
for walking and jogging are all found nearby. To be honest Auraliya is so
special with so much loving care given to details, you barely feel the need to

On arrival we were met by the friendly staff, who made us feel very welcome. The house was clean, modern & comfortably furnished, and all the bedrooms, which were very roomy, looked out onto the pool. If you needed the shops you could pop into Galle (by car), which was only a few minutes drive away. The beach, located at the end of the garden, was amazing. It was so deserted, almost like having your own private beach. The sea was turquoise & the sand golden. If you didn't wish to venture onto the beach you could sit at the breakfast bar & enjoy the view, or in the evening enjoy a drink watching the sun go down on the horizon. Overall it was a very relaxing holiday, and a great destination to go to with friends and/or family.

We (a family of six) have stayed at Auraliya a number of times - most recently at the end of 2007. We have enjoyed every moment of every trip. The house is beautiful and well laid out for a family, the staff are very attentive and friendly. The beach is beyond compare and the location is fantastic (if you want to leave the house!). We will certainly be visiting again in future.

VietnamPerfect Island Paradise
Left on 10/29/2009 for a stay in January 2009
A perfect luxury beach house in a paradise Island. This gorgeous villa comes with numerous friendly staff to cater to all your needs. The villa is fabulously and styled, with all the necessary modcons including wireless. This would be a fantastic villa in any location but is truely paradise being located on one of the best beaches near Galle, with a coral reef protecting the beach, so safe for swimming even for young children, and great snorkling on the door step. On the doorstep there are miles of pristine beaches, and inland lush greenery for bike rides or scenic tours. The historic town of Galle is a few kilometers away.
Paradise for anyone but a perfect family villa as plenty of space, pool, large grass area and a child-friendly beach - and a great restaurant 2 mins down the beach.
No faults at all. -

Left on 10/29/2009 for a stay in February 2008
This home had been described to us by friends but nothing prepared us for the absolute beauty of the place.
The rooms are simply but exquisitely decorated.
They are bright and airy with a breeze blowing from the ocean which is literally on the doorstep.
Every room has a huge bathroom with large ceiling fans keeping them cool.
Really nothing seems to have been forgotten with regard to comfort and being made to feel 'at home'
The sea is clear, warm and a delight for children.
The pool is an integral part of the area which is also a huge bonus with children.
There is also a tv room should it be needed.
Every whim was attended to,quickly and very cheerfully by the fabulous staff there.
The chef provided us with wonderful, tasty meals made from locally bought produce.
Galle,a fascinating small historic town is close by and there are great cycle rides through the surrounding countryside.
For us the greatest thing about the place was being able to totally relax in such a beautiful environment with no hassles, but friendly faces there when you needed them.
The worst thing about the place is leaving it!!!

Our stay at Auraliya could not have been more perfect: the house is a brilliant design, it's comfortable, simple, tasteful, extremely quiet and the setting, a few feet away from the ocean, is an image from Paradise.
The staff was extraordinarily helpful, discrete and kind, and the food was simply sublime. It felt as familiar and warm as does one's idea of the perfect place to be.
Galle is a lovely town to explore. And it was such a delight to go "home" after a few hours, to be greeting by Ganesh protecting the serene walls of one of the loveliest houses we had ever stayed in.
The owners have worked so hard to make everything seamless, accessible and easy, to anticipate any problem (we encountered none), and to ensure Auraliya is as much of a haven for visitors as it is for them.

Left on 10/21/2009 for a stay in March 2009
We have stayed many times at Auraliya now and each time it exceeds our expectations. The property, the views, the staff, the food.. just magic.
Being so close to the beach, having a beautiful pool and wonderful gardens make staying at Auraliya such a pleasure. The rooms are modern and spacious. The beds are big and comfortable and the bathrooms are magnificient.
Not only Auraliya but also the wonderful environment of Fort Gall with its stylish colonial architecture, Dutch-English history, boutique hotels and restaurants, surf beaches and inland rice paddies makes this a place where we always want to come back to.
Sri Lanka and certainly Galle and its surroundings offer so much more than places like Phuket or Bali and is still so undiscovered... -

I've been extremely fortunate to spend two christmases at Auraliya and I can't
wait to return. from the moment I arrive, my every whim is catered for (by the
most smiley and highly efficient, yet discreet staff). the house is beautifully
designed, with generous and thoughtful attention to detail. it's also a house
that you can instantly relax in and feel comfortable. it's not a stuffy, pompous
show house - it's a home - that encourages relaxation, peace and tranquility.
it's a spacious house, so serene. the white sandy beach and clear blue sea is
right at the end of the garden (nearly always empty) and the view out over the
horizon is mesmirizing - perfect for sundowner cocktails. the cook is highly
versatile, whipping up anything you fancy, from fresh salads to local dishes.
there are also plenty of fabulous restaurants nearby, so a lot of choice. I've
had massages, yoga classes, bike rides through the paddy fields and temple
visits some days or languished by the large pool in hot sun on others. I can go
out and party by night or stay in (in the air conned TV room), curl up and
watch a DVD. I LOVE Auraliya. it's my nirvana.
