London, United KingdomAn Oasis Of Tranquility, Beauty and Extraordinary Heart Warming
Left on 11/05/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This stunning boutique villa provided us with comfort, thoughtful luxury and exquisite, authentic hospitality from the moment we stepped into this oasis of tranquility, serenity, beauty and care.
Its gentle, charming spirit enables complete relaxation, rest and renewal. I would swing in the hammocks, practice yoga in the yoga pavilion, enjoy the infinity pool and listen to the Buddhist chants from the local temple.
Equally, it is a few minutes ride from stunning beaches, trendy beach bars and general hustle and bustle. The heart of rural Sri Lanka is nestled in this jewel of genuine friendliness, and kindness.
I love Satori – it is like coming home. -

LondonThoroughly recommend Satori
Left on 09/28/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We've just come back from a fantastic trip, exploring the many delights of Sri Lanka, with one of our absolute highlights being able to stay at the very wonderful Satori. A short 20mins ride, by Tuk Tuk from Gaelle, we were taken along the beautiful coastal road and driven through the charming villages. Arriving at Satori the private gates opened & straight away we were greeted to welcoming smiles. Surrounded by the lush green jungle, paddy field landscape and beautiful colonial surrounds, you immediately can't help but absorb the relaxing & beautiful spirit of Satori. I would thoroughly recommend it as a definite must if you're looking for a memorable stay in Sri Lanka. I've travelled to may places during my lifetime but I can honestly say, I don't think I have stayed anywhere as magnificent and captivating as Satori. The owner, has done a fantastic job, to ensure guests enjoy and have a memorable stay. The colonial interiors are simply beautiful and we just loved how each room was decorated. From the lazy hammocks, to the many 4-poster beds to choose from, the romantic coach house, the infinity pool, beautiful lush gardens, (even an outside bathroom!) and the top notch service, you definitely can't go wrong choosing Satori!!! Upon arrival we were greeted (and spoilt!) to a delicious breakfast, cooked by a wonderful lady (forget her name now) with the biggest & heart warming smile. The Manager, Thusitha, is a great host and made sure our stay was nothing but pleasurable. We visited the neighbouring beaches, Wijaya beach was definitely our favourite and enjoyed a yummy lunch and sunset at Wijaya Beach Restaurant. In the evening we were treated again to a wonderful and hugely tasty meal by our smiley chef and surrounded by the relaxing sounds of the monks singing and the bundle of wildlife in the jungle. We loved it so much that we are already planning our trip back to Satori, but taking friends with us this time to share this best kept secret in Sri Lanka

LondonPerfect villa to relax & getaway from stress of life
Left on 09/17/2012 for a stay in March 2009
One of our favourite family holidays in a very special place. We spent a luxurious, relaxing week watching the wildlife go by while we lazed by the pool. Everything from amazing beaches to bustling markets is only a few minutes away in a tuktuk. So much to see & do for the whole family but you'll always keen to head back "home" to your own little oasis.

Satori is set in the most beautiful location and there is every attention to detail. In the design and furnishing of the villa, to the garden and pool area - with hammocks and terraces - nothing has been overlooked.
The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and attentive.
A personalised road trip was put together for me, enabling me in 3 days, to get a feel for Sri Lanka and its people and wildlife. I went up into the tea plantations, swam in the plunge pools of 2 magnificent waterfalls, went on safari and visited the elephant transit camp; marvelling at and laughing at the young elephants coming in excitedly from the jungle, at 9am for their morning milk. I was also able to feed elephants sugar cane.
A world class massage was also arranged for me on site.
There is something magical about Satori and its energy. The minute I passed through the great gates, I began to relax. I floated on my back in the pool at sunrise just enjoying the new day unfolding before me, sat on a rock high up behind the villa, to watch the sunset, floated on my back again in the dark, looking up at the fireflies.
Beaches are easily accessible by tuk tuk; but for a honeymoon couple, just Satori in itself is enough. I slept in the 'coachhouse' which is both different and sumptuous and romantic.
It is also somewhere that I would love to come on retreat with a group of like minded people. An ambulama for yoga will be completed in the near future.
If at all possible, I shall return here annually. I just love it. -

LondonMagical, serene...a taste of paradise
Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in September 2010
I've had the good fortune to visit Satori Villa three times, such was the impact it left on me.
Having travelled much of the world I can honestly say that Satori is one of the most unique places I've ever had the good fortune to discover & stay at.
A large aspect of this is it's unique location, nestled away up a hillside in totally secluded grounds, giving you the impression of having the whole surrounding area to yourself.
Satori offers the best of both worlds: a short tuk-tuk ride from some of the world's finest beaches allow you to 'dip' down and get the best aspects of beachlife, but then retreat away from the coastal road and holidayers, back up to your own piece of paradise.
The villa has been lovingly created by the proud & welcoming owner Hugh with amazing, unspoilt panoramic views.
I can't wait to revisit - even a couple of days at Satori are enough to fully unwind and recharge. I'm heading back at the start of 2013!
Ask Hugh about his amazing road trips aswell. He has perfected what I believe to be better than any 'tour operator' trips of varying lengths.
10/10 - highly recommended.
Ps Visit the lovely local tailoress Tharanga. She lives in the local village and makes great shirts - you choose the style & material and away she goes. A great experience.

Melbournea beautiful escape..
Left on 09/12/2012 for a stay in August 2011
Our stay at Satori..started long before our physical arrival. Our first skype with Hugh generated such an exciting energy before we had left home..My wife and I took my mother in law and our 2 young children 2 and 9 months..and we turned the journey into a coffee table book filled with such beautiful memories of Sri Lanka, Satori, the staff who quickly became our friends and a family escape with such beautiful surrounds..We had the whole place and it was just such a happy time..For us..the memories of the staff picking fresh fruit from the tree's and mashing it up to be served to our 9 month old..Chaminda the tuk tuk driver whose smiling face is on the wall of our eldest child..the most totally fresh and delicious food..swimming as a family in the beautiful pool and the sound of laughter and happiness..getting lost with mother in law and ending up randomly in a villages house drinking tea..the day trip to yala that was organised for my birthday and seeing 5 leopards(apparently i am lucky!)..hmmm i so could keep going on..Satori would so be suited for friends..or family or lovers ..or quite simply those who are simply lovers of life and want to be surrounded with such love, sunshine and happiness that made you feel not as a guest but as a sense of extended family and part of a home however still retaining the ability to escape in a sense which is still private and unobtrussive..Life is beautiful when such things can touch you and a small piece you can carry on with you in the shape of a beautiful memory/experience...

Ibiza, SpainSatori: Beautiful one day... Perfect the next ;-)
Left on 09/12/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Unprecedented quality of service with a smile... A beautiful retreat setting... Surrounded by breathtaking nature. You can expect to 'arrive' at Satori and experience rejuvenation time at its best.
I love this place so much I can't seem to stop coming back for more.. This was my 4th year now and as a retreat facilitator - who has worked in many places around the world, its one of my favorite destinations.
I've found Satori to be the perfect place for me to hold my wellness programs as it's proved to be an ideal sanctuary, with great facilities for yoga and massage treatments.
The Sri Lankan meals prepared in-house are also exquisite. And although Satori is peacefully nestled in paradise - Is also very close to the palm fringed beaches and local leisure activities.
Its always a delight to return back. Thank you Hugh for your support and services throughout the years. I'll be back ;-)
Blessings to You and your astounding crew

LondonMy perfect holiday. A hidden paradise for me and my family.
Left on 09/12/2012 for a stay in January 2011
I stayed here with my husband two young children and had the holiday of a lifetime. A complete rest for me as, we were totally spoiled and doted on by the very loving and attentive staff. It's a tropical paradise. Each morning we woke to rising mists in the valley and the sounds of waking jungle wildlife, delicious fresh breakfast and swims under the shades of the leafy teas in the perfect infinity pool. The beaches are 5 mins away by awaiting tuk tuks, restaurants and towns a few minutes more. There's so much to do and see - each day is a rich adventure. The food is incredible. Yoga and relaxation in the early evening plus a cocktail or two with all the fun people we met locally. My kind of holiday.

DubaiPrivacy, peace, serenity
Left on 09/11/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I have spent a weekend in Satori and I did not want to leave!
I loved the greenery and breath taking view overlooking fascinating Srilankan lanscape with palm trees and rice fields.
The property is quite large and I enjoyed hanging out in the gardens watching wild life and various tropical plants. Mangoes were ripe and I could eat as much as I was able to.
It did not feel like a hotel, this place became my home (at least for the three days:) Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Ms. Indrani made lots of awsome local salads and curries on my request.
Reading a great book in a hammock and doing nothing was just what I needed...
Next time I hope to take my partner and share this romatic serene place together!

DubaiOne of the Worlds Last Remaining Undiscovered Gems
Left on 09/11/2012 for a stay in June 2012
A True Tropical Paradise, situated on the coast in Galle. The peace and serenity that embodies Satori was something that could literally be physically felt, breathed...perceived... absorbed through even sense of your being. Driving in through the gates, all ones worries, cares and thoughts simply melted away. The privacy and tranquility is unparalleled.
Located on a hillside surrounded by lush tropical forest, Satori has a colonial-era charm all of its own. The kitchen staff couldn't be more helpful if they tried. We sampled numerous delights from the kitchen, dinner outdoors under the varander with the sound of mother nature all around. Fresh coconuts on demand. What a treat!
Easy access to a charming assortment of nearby restaurants. Markets have a large variety of fresh locally grown tropical fruit and assorted fresh veggies, all locally grown.
I found the beaches to be world class. I even chanced upon a delightful shoulder deep clear water tidal pool sheltered from pounding of Indian Ocean with its own little beach.
In summary, I found Satori to be a world class guest house tucked away in paradise. I came away after three days feeling as if I had spent a week there...totally recharged. Thanks to the Satori Crew for making it happen.
