Baytown TXThis home has it all-charm, comfort, & quick access to the beach
Left on 03/15/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Six other members of my family and I rented this lovely island cottage for 3 nights and 4 days for my son's wedding at the Railroad Museum. The home had ample space-my elderly parents stayed in the master bedroom (has its own bathroom). My husband and I stayed in the middle bedroom with one daughter, and my sister and oldest daughter stayed in the front bedroom, sharing a Jack-and Jill bathroom. There was plenty of privacy and the beds were comfortable. More could fit if needed since there is also a futon in the front living room and a sofa bed in the back den. The house is very large with a dining room and kitchen in addition to the rooms already mentioned. We had plenty of room to entertain other family members and guests before and after the wedding. The owner has thought of everything in terms of supplies and the "little touches". The kitchen is fully stocked and includes spices, flour, coffee, and other basics. The bathrooms are stocked with toiletries and there is a notebook full of info on the cottage and anything you might need in town. There are 3 TVs, games, Dvds, and even CDs of our favorite austin radio station Kgsr. The decor is perfect-antiques, shabby chic, and clever beach themes-lots of personal touches. The house is conveniently located 2 blocks from the beach, and we easily took many walks there. It is minutes from the Strand, the ferry, West Beach, and any other Galveston attraction you may want to visit. The only downside to the cottage is the lower water pressure, about which the owner is up front (in the many signs she has posted that are very helpful). This is something common to the Eastside homes after Hurricane Ike and can't be helped. While the pressure was low, it was adequate enough, and did not interfere with our weekend. We especially enjoyed sitting on the front porch and moving from room to room visitng with lots of friends and family. We are already planning our next vacation at this comfortable and charming home.

Canyon Lake, Txwhy would you consider a hotel?
Left on 09/25/2012 for a stay in September 2012
I just returned from a 4 day trip to Galveston with my husband, daughter and her husband and baby, my son and his wife and two daughters 6 and 8 years old. Also our older small dog joined us. We were very comfortable in the cottage-plenty of room! Everything we could need was provided. We cooked dinner and breakfast there and ate around the dining room table. Love the way it was decorated- I mean, if you are going to the beach you want to feel like you are at the beach! Having coffee on the front porch every morning was also a treat! I absolutely recommend the Sand Dollar Cottage. Deb was very accomodating and easy to get a hold of. Thanks Deb!
Also, the location can not be beat! -

Haltom City, TXWarm, comforting, welcoming home. Made our stay even better!
Left on 07/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We have been going to Galveston for years and staying in hotels. This year we decided to rent a house. Deb (the owner) made the entire process wonderful. She was always helpful and courteous. She kept in touch, and kept us informed right up to the day we left. We expected the house to be great after looking at all the pictures. We were not disappointed. From the moment you open the door, you feel at home. We didn't think Galveston could get much better, but the house proved us wrong. The house is large, with plenty of room. My children felt like they had their own section of the house all to themselves. Every thing you need is there. It has a great back yard (with grill), and an excellent porch to relax on and catch a nice night breeze. It is a very easy 3 block walk to the beach and about 6 blocks to the new pleasure pier. Since the minute we left, my children have been talking about the house. We cannot wait 'till next years trip. We have no doubt about where we will be staying!

Tomball, TxPerfect first family vacation!
Left on 05/08/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We couldn't have found a more perfect place to stay for our first family vacation. This house is like a home away from home. Deb has done a great job decorating it to feel like home, not some tacky beach get away. The property is very clean, fully fenced and although it's within walking distance to the beach you are in your own private space, we had coffee on the front porch every morning in our pjs. We took our first ferry ride (free) while we were here thanks to the informational book she has at the house. I highly recommend it, after all not much is free these days and it was a lot of fun for the kids (recommend walking on, the line for driving on is literally miles long). I can not say enough good things, you will not be disappointed when renting this house. Deb is amazing and very quick with any communication. We will most definitely be renting again. Thanks Deb for making my 31st birthday and our first family vacation so stress free and wonderful. And for making it so easy to include our four legged baby too.

I can't tell you what a wonderful treat it was to borrow your home for our 2nd annual Stolz Cousins Reunion. There was not a thing that we needed and were unable to find. My brother left home without his suitcase so at midnight, we were surprised to find that you had a bounty of items 'just in case'. We enjoyed our visit together and found the Sand Dollar Cottage a warm and cozy shelter for us all. You can be assured that we will not hesitate to reserve our space on the next visit. Thank you so much, Deb!

This is very charming old house. It is spacious, comfortable and more importantly clean! I felt comfortable, like I was staying in my own home. The back yard is nice with new patio furniture - perfect for grilling or relaxing with a glass of wine. I really felt like we got a great deal with this place.

Thanks! Yes, we are an "old house" built in 1896 and we've lovingly restored it so it maintains some of it's orginal charm while adding modern upgrades.

San Marcos, TXHome away from home
Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in June 2011
For me, the Sand Dollar Cottage feels like a home away from home, not just a rental. Deb works hard to make sure that guests are welcomed by a charming house with spaciousness and a wonderful, comfortable atmosphere. As a lover of the older homes in the south, the cottage reflects the feeling of getting away from it all and being able to relax.
The kitchen is well supplied so you can save money by cooking at the house and she provides the menus to several local resaurants that have great food! There are also flyers for other attractions on the island so you can relax at home or visit points of interest, such as the great tree sculptures created from the dead trees left by Hurrcane Ike.
If you must stay connected, you can with wireless provided and if you've got to have your TV, that's provided, too.
If the beach is your thing, you can be there in minutes either walking or driving. It is about 2 blocks to walk to the seawall and there you can access the beach for free. -

Beaumont, TexasThis quaint little house brought peace after traveling all over
Left on 01/10/2012 for a stay in July 2011
When you walk into this house, it is not just a place to lay your head. The owner has thought of everything from cable to music to books to folders filled with places to go. It felt like walking into your own home. The inside of the house is like a beach house without having sand all over the place. If you want the beach just bike or walk about 3 blocks. Then come back, hose yourself off, and sit on the porch with a cold drink. If I could take anything with it would be the front porch. I had to catch-up on my business, so at 6 am, with a cup of coffee, cell phone, and client's notebooks that little porch was the best office I ever had. The only suggestion I would have is add a patio table and chairs outback for night time eating. Otherwise, it is a home away from home.
