We visited Galveston island recently as new transplants to Houston, and honestly hated it. It seemed dirty and nothing felt nice enough for a vacation. But, labor day called and we booked a last minute trip to Pointe West Condos at the far end of the island. We couldn't have asked for anything better, but clear water and white sand. That's just not an option for texas beaches - so we were thrilled with our stay knowing what we were getting. The condo seemed brand new, was clean and had most of what we need. The only thing missing that we see in other condo rentals is a few staples in the pantry. But, because there is no food or condiments left it stays very clean.
Our children loved the beach, and we almost had it to ourselves several times. It was never crowded and most visitors seemed to be families just like us. We visited the beach club pool briefly one day to get away from the sand. We were pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Too bad the beach club is under foreclosure, so there's no grill or bar - but you wouldn't know it's missing an owner except for the food.
We had trouble accessing the room, but the managers sent someone over immediately and gave us a late check out on labor day to compensate for the delay. That gave our kids more beach time on labor day, so we were happy with the gesture.
All in all... yes, we would go back!
