Great stay. First time we had ever rented a house in 58 years of going to Galveston. We will definitely do it again! We usually stay in a motel or take our rv. Loved the Allsup house.

The Alsup House in Jamaica Beach is a very nice home in a nice location second row from the Gulf. Took the whole family (kids, grand kids) a dear cousin and even the family dog. Enjoyed the deck and beach walks. Nice easy drive to the heart of Seawall and the Strand too! Clean home with plenty of room. Would recommend it to anyone!

Pros: great location, quick stroll to the beach, outside shower, spacious living/dining room, lots of windows, spacious deck, adequate sleeping space, washer/dryer on premise
Cons: refrigerator was not operating properly (milk was about room temperature to the touch), barbeque grill was old, rusty & non-usable, more than half the pillows were filthy & stained, lint filter in dryer was torn, can opener was extremely rusty, cable & wi-fi was difficult to access, and at arrival, there was garbage left outside the garbage receptacle.
Last but not least, service was lacking. When we called to report that the fridge was not working properly, the rep suggested that it was because we "filled it up with food" & turned up the temperature. In other words, she implied that it was our fault that the fridge was not cooling as it should. Rep advised that she could send a technician to look at the fridge but the tech would have to unplug the fridge for up to an hour. Obviously, we declined to have the technician come out.
We took lots of photos and a video for documentation if needed in the future. -

This is a great house to stay in and would rent again. Sleeping space is plentiful, the kitchen has all that u need, except pantry space, this is locked by the home owners. Also don't forget your toilet paper. Overall, this house is clean with a great view. We felt very safe as it seemed there is 24 hour patrol in the area.

Our six weeks at the Alsop house this year was about the same as the previous 4-5 winter months. The house is generally in good shape having been repainted and new floors after the hurricane 2-3 years ago. It's located in the second row of beach houses in Jamaica Beach, about 10 mi south of the city of Galveston. The only negative regarding the house is the relatively poor lighting in the kitchen and living room. We have brought floor lamps with us for comfortable reading in the living room. The cable TV system offered has several hundred stations, quite sufficient for a variety of viewing.
The House Company has been very accommodating when problems have popped up during our past stays.
Galveston is an interesting town, with over 100 yrs history, some rather spectacular. The 1900 hurricane is well documented in the city as well as explaining the method used to raise the level of much of the northern island some 30 feet after the 1900 hurricane.
Of course, there is great availability of sea food, fresh and in restaurants.
We've been surprised that relatively few tourists are about the city during winter months. The winter climate is not generally "hot" by any stretch of the imagination, but is 20-30 degrees warmer than any northern US state, which is a real plus. The typical coastal weather, i.e., fog and cloud cover and showers, is there and offfers a different variety not generally experienced in more continental sites.
We hope to use our "southern escape" again in the future. -

We enjoyed our stay at the alsup house, the location was a little far out from the main city but peaceful and less crowded, the front door was frustrating very hard to open and close kept sticking so we used the other door, the umbrella on the deck was broken, the dishwasher was broken and when i tried to wash the dishes water leaked out all over the floor plus there was no dishwashing liquid. But the beach was great and beautiful even with the heavy winds and rain. we will keep vacation rental homes with this company in mind for our next vacation but i have to say making guests supply their own toilet paper and paper towels seems a bit rude and cheap.

I know it is a vacation rental and did not expect perfection but these things are simple fixes, for the price per week I expected better. Other than that it was good......

Yes, we had a great stay. However, we took our own linen…all sheets and towels but were charged for the linen. We stripped the beds initially and neatly folded all sheets and stacked them with the unused towels in the Master and the other two bedrooms. Please make sure that I receive a credit for the linen charge

Although I liked the house and location, and the staff were very friendly, the number of mosquitos really took away our joy. We were bothered and bitten countless times,at all times of day and night. No bug sprays nor foggers made a difference. Something has to be done about the number of mosquitos in the area. Also, I woke up one morning to find a large cockroach in my glass beside my bed. It shocked me. Otherwise, the place would have made a dream-stay. If these 2 elements are addressed, in would be paradise.

Not real keen on the back yard so close to retail stip center and folks walking thru the property to the beach.
A/c is not enough tonage for the size home it is so it was difficult to keep cool. Did not see the part about needed to bring soap, toilet paper dishwashing soap in advance of my stay. -

Great location (close to beach) and very spacious. But upper bunk beds are not suitable for children (no safety rail or working ladders). No lamp in kids bunkroom. King beds are very old and squeaky. Kitchen needs inventory - few matching pans with lids. Lots of flatware - enough for a banquet!

Left on 04/12/2008 for a stay in April 2008
Wonderful stay in Feb/Mar 2008, particularly coming from wintery Illiois. Somewhat surprised that more 'northerners' weren't enjoying Galveston's weather, culture, history and seafood. House Co staff most helpful. House in good shape, sufficient for 6 people, close to good Gulf beach, 15 min to Galveston and 1 hr to Houston.
